Guiding students to express their complex ideas about social networking clearly and accurately in English. A. Sentence Patterns It is important to... E.g. It is important to protect our personal information on social networks. Spend time doing sth. E.g. He spends too much time playing games on social networks. Be careful with... E.g. We should be careful with the information we share online. 教学过程 A. Warming-up (5 minutes) Greet the students as usual. Show some pictures of popular social network platforms on the PPT, such as WeChat Moments, Facebook posts, and Instagram photos. Then ask students: "Do you know these social networks? Have you ever used them? What do you usually do on social networks?" Encourage students to share their experiences briefly. This activity can arouse students' interest and lead in the topic of social networking smoothly. B. Pre-reading (10 minutes) Vocabulary Teaching Present the new vocabulary related to social networking on the PPT one by one. Explain the meaning of each word with simple English and show some examples. For example, when teaching "post", show a picture of someone sharing a status on WeChat and say "Look, she is posting a status. Post means to share something on a social network." Let students read the words after the teacher several times to practice pronunciation. Do a quick vocabulary game. Show the Chinese meanings of the words on the PPT and ask students to race to say the English words. This can help students remember the words better. Predicting Show the title and some pictures related to the reading text on the PPT. Ask students to predict what the text might be about. For example, if the title is "The Good and Bad of Social Networking" and there are pictures of people smiling while using their phones and a picture of a person looking worried about online privacy, ask students: "Based on the title and these pictures, what do you think the article will talk about?" Encourage students to share their predictions in groups. This activity can activate students' prior knowledge and help them read with a purpose. C. While-reading (15 minutes) Skimming Let students read the text quickly (about 2 - 3 minutes) without paying too much attention to details. Then ask them to answer the question: "What is the main idea of the text?" Students can raise their hands to share their answers. This activity helps students get a general understanding of the text. Scanning Give students some specific questions related to the details of the text, such as "How many advantages of social networking are mentioned in the text? What are they?" or "What are the problems caused by social networking according to the text?" Let students read the text again carefully and find the answers. After a few minutes, ask students to share their answers. This can train students' ability to find specific information in the text. Detailed Reading Read the text paragraph by paragraph with the students. Explain the key sentence patterns and difficult sentences. For example, when encountering the sentence "It is important to set limits on the time we spend on social networks.", explain the structure "It is + adj. + to do sth." and let students imitate this sentence pattern to make their own sentences. Analyze the text structure together. Point out how the author presents the advantages and disadvantages of social networking, and how the paragraphs are organized. This can help students understand the text better and learn how to write an article with a clear structure. D. Post-reading (10 minutes) Group Discussion Divide students into groups of 4 - 5. Give each group a discussion topic, such as "Do you think social networking is more beneficial or harmful? Why?" or "How can we use social networking in a better way?" Each group is required to discuss the topic for about 5 minutes and choose a representative to share their group's opinions later. Walk around the classroom to monitor the group discussions, offer help if necessary, and encourage students to express their ideas in English as much as possible. Group Presentation Invite each group's representative to come to the front of the classroom and share their group's discussion results. Other students listen carefully and can ask questions or give their own comments after the presentation. This activity can improve students' oral communication skills and critical thinking ability. E. Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary Summarize the key points of this class with the students, including the new vocabulary, sentence patterns, and the main content of the reading text about social networking. Emphasize the importance of using social networks responsibly. Homework Ask students to write a short passage (about 80 - 100 words) about their own views on social networking. They can include their experiences, the advantages and disadvantages they think, and how they plan to use social networks in the future. Encourage students to pay attention to their social networking behavior in their daily lives and try to use it more rationally. 教学反思 After this class, I need to reflect on the following aspects. Firstly, in vocabulary teaching, although the game can arouse students' enthusiasm, some students may still have difficulty remembering the words. Maybe I can design more vocabulary - related exercises in the next class to strengthen their memory. Secondly, during the group discussion, some students were a bit shy and didn't actively participate. I should create a more relaxed and encouraging atmosphere in future classes to make every student feel comfortable to express their opinions. Thirdly, in terms of time management, the group presentation part took a bit longer than expected, which made the summary part a little rushed. I need to better control the time in each teaching link to ensure a more complete and smooth teaching process. Overall, through this class, students have a certain understanding of social networking in English, but there is still room for improvement in teaching methods and classroom management. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
