Unit 2 Wonders of nature-D Listening and speaking This part of "D Listening and speaking" in Unit 2 "Wonders of nature" focuses on enhancing students' listening and speaking skills related to natural wonders. Through listening to dialogues and monologues, students will gather information about different natural wonders, such as their features, locations, and the experiences people have had visiting them. The speaking activities will encourage students to express their opinions, share their knowledge about natural wonders, and engage in conversations with their peers, all centered around the theme of nature's marvels. 教学目标 1. Knowledge Objectives Students will be able to master new words and phrases related to natural wonders mentioned in the listening materials, such as "waterfall", "canyon", "coral reef", etc. They can understand and use sentence patterns for describing natural wonders, like "The Great Barrier Reef is the biggest coral reef system in the world." 2. Ability Objectives Improve students' listening comprehension ability, enabling them to catch key information, main ideas, and details from the listening materials about natural wonders. Develop students' speaking skills, allowing them to describe natural wonders clearly, express their preferences, and have simple conversations about natural wonders with correct pronunciation and intonation. 3. Emotional Objectives Cultivate students' interest in natural wonders and a sense of appreciation for the beauty of nature. Encourage students to actively participate in class activities, enhancing their confidence in using English to communicate. 教学重难点 1. Key Points Key vocabulary and sentence patterns for describing natural wonders. Training students to listen for specific information and main ideas about natural wonders. Guiding students to conduct fluent speaking activities about natural wonders. 2. Difficult Points Helping students understand the detailed descriptions of natural wonders in the listening materials, especially some complex sentences and specific geographical terms. Encouraging students to organize their thoughts and express themselves freely when speaking about natural wonders, using appropriate language and vivid descriptions. 1. New Words and Phrases waterfall (n.) 瀑布 canyon (n.) 峡谷 coral reef (n.) 珊瑚礁 view (n.) 景色;风景 amazing (adj.) 令人大为惊奇的 natural (adj.) 自然的 2. Key Sentence Patterns The Great Barrier Reef is the biggest coral reef system in the world. The Grand Canyon is one of the most easily recognizable natural wonders on Earth. Visiting the Grand Canyon is like looking into the Earth’s history book. 教学过程 1. Warming-up (5 minutes) Greet the students and show some pictures of famous natural wonders on the PPT, such as the Great Wall in China, the Grand Canyon in the USA, and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Ask students: "Do you know these places? What are they?" Encourage students to answer in English. Lead in the topic of today's class - natural wonders, and arouse students' interest. 2. Pre-listening (10 minutes) Present the new words and phrases related to natural wonders on the PPT. Teach the pronunciation, meaning, and usage of each word. For example, when teaching "waterfall", show a picture of a waterfall and say: "Look, this is a waterfall. The water falls down from a high place. It's very beautiful. Can you read the word after me?" Let students repeat several times. Do a word-matching activity. Write the new words on the left side of the blackboard and their definitions on the right side. Ask students to match the words with the correct definitions. Check the answers together. Then, introduce some key sentence patterns for describing natural wonders. Explain the grammar points, such as the usage of the superlative degree in "The Great Barrier Reef is the biggest coral reef system in the world." Let students make some similar sentences using the new words they just learned. 3. While-listening (15 minutes) Activity 1: Play the first part of the listening material, which is a dialogue about the Great Barrier Reef. Before playing, ask students to read the questions on the textbook first: "What is special about the Great Barrier Reef? How big is it?" Let students listen carefully and try to find the answers. After playing the recording, ask students to answer the questions. Check the answers together and play the recording again if necessary for students to clarify any misunderstandings. Activity 2: Play the second part of the listening material, which is a monologue about the Grand Canyon. This time, ask students to listen and fill in the blanks according to the information they hear. The blanks can be about the features, location, or some amazing facts of the Grand Canyon. After listening, ask students to share their answers. Check the answers and play the recording one more time for students to correct their mistakes. 4. Post-listening (10 minutes) Group work: Divide students into groups of four. Each group is given a task to discuss one natural wonder they are interested in. They need to talk about its features, why they like it, and if they have ever been there or would like to go there in the future. Encourage students to use the new words and sentence patterns they learned in class. Each group selects a representative to give a presentation in front of the class. The representative should introduce the natural wonder their group discussed. Other students can ask questions after the presentation. Have a class discussion. Ask students: "What can we do to protect these natural wonders?" Let students express their opinions freely and write some good suggestions on the blackboard. 5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary: Summarize the key points of this class, including new words, phrases, sentence patterns, and the main content of the listening materials about natural wonders. Ask students to recall what they have learned. Homework: Ask students to write a short passage about their favorite natural wonder, using at least five new words and three sentence patterns learned in class. Let students search for more information about a natural wonder they are interested in on the Internet and share it with the class next time. 教学反思 After this class, overall, students showed a high level of interest in the topic of natural wonders. The warming-up activity with pictures effectively attracted their attention and motivated them to participate in class. The pre-listening teaching of new words and sentence patterns laid a good foundation for the listening comprehension. However, during the while-listening process, some students still had difficulty catching specific information quickly, especially when the listening materials contained complex sentences. In the future, more listening training with different speeds and levels of difficulty should be provided. During the speaking activities, most students actively participated in group discussions and presentations. But some students were still a little shy and lacked confidence in speaking English. Teachers need to give more encouragement and guidance to these students, such as providing more sentence templates or example dialogues for them to imitate. The class discussion about protecting natural wonders successfully enhanced students' awareness of environmental protection, achieving the emotional teaching objective. The homework assignment can further consolidate students' learning results and expand their knowledge about natural wonders. Overall, adjustments and improvements will be made based on this reflection to better design future classes. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
