教学过程
1. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual. Then show some beautiful pictures of famous travel destinations around the world on the PPT, such as the Eiffel Tower in France, the Great Wall in China, the Statue of Liberty in the US, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, etc.
While showing the pictures, ask the students some simple questions, like "Do you know where this place is?", "Have you ever been there?", "What do you think of this place?". Encourage students to express their opinions briefly. This step can quickly arouse students' interest in the topic of travel and create a relaxed and active classroom atmosphere.
2. Pre - listening (10 minutes)
New Vocabulary Introduction
Present the key vocabulary about travel on the PPT one by one. Explain the meaning, pronunciation, and usage of each word or phrase with examples. For example, when teaching "travel", say "Travel can broaden our horizons. I like to travel to different countries during holidays."; when teaching "plane", show a picture of a plane and say "We usually take a plane to travel long distances. It's fast."
After introducing the words, let the students read the words and phrases aloud several times to practice pronunciation. Then play a simple word - matching game. Divide the new words and their explanations into two columns on the PPT, and ask students to match them as quickly as possible. This can help students better remember the new words.
Prediction
Tell the students that they will listen to a conversation about travel. Show some pictures related to the conversation content in advance, such as pictures of a train station, a hotel, and a famous scenic spot. Ask the students to predict what the conversation might be about according to these pictures. For example, "Look at these pictures. What do you think the two speakers might talk about? Maybe they are discussing their travel plan, right?" This step can train students' ability to predict listening content and improve their listening efficiency.
3. Listening (10 minutes)
First Listening
Play the recording of the conversation for the first time. Ask the students to listen carefully and get the general idea of the conversation. After listening, ask some general questions, like "Who are talking in the conversation?", "What are they mainly talking about?". Let several students answer the questions.
Second Listening
Play the recording again. This time, ask the students to listen more carefully and take notes of the key information, such as the travel destination, transportation means, accommodation, and activities they plan to do. Provide a form on the PPT for students to fill in while listening. The form can include columns like "Destination", "Transportation", "Hotel", "Activities".
Check the Answers
After the second listening, ask students to stop taking notes. Invite several students to come to the front of the class and fill in the form on the PPT with their answers. Then play the recording one more time if necessary to check the answers together. Make sure all students understand the key information in the conversation.
4. Speaking (10 minutes)
Pair - work
Divide the students into pairs. Ask each pair to make up a similar conversation about their own travel plans according to the model conversation they just heard. They can choose any travel destination they like. Encourage them to use the new words, phrases, and sentence patterns they have learned. Walk around the classroom to monitor and offer help when necessary.
Role - play
Select several pairs of students to come to the front of the class and perform their conversations in front of the whole class. After each pair finishes the performance, ask other students to give some comments, such as what they did well and what could be improved. This can not only give students a chance to practice oral English but also improve their confidence and performance ability.
5. Reading (5 minutes)
Fast Reading
Present a short text about travel on the PPT. It can be a passage introducing a popular travel destination. Ask the students to read the text quickly within 2 - 3 minutes and find out the main idea of the text. After they finish reading, ask some students to summarize the main idea in their own words.
Careful Reading
Let the students read the text carefully again. This time, ask them to answer some detailed questions related to the text, such as "What are the special attractions of this place?", "What kind of transportation is convenient there?". Write these questions on the PPT in advance. After the students finish reading and answering, check the answers together and explain some difficult sentences or new knowledge points in the text.
6. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key vocabulary, phrases, and sentence patterns about travel that have been learned in this class with the students. Write them on the blackboard again and emphasize the important points. Also, summarize the main content of the listening, speaking, and reading parts, and review the skills and strategies used in these processes.
Homework
Ask the students to write a short passage about their dream travel plan. They need to include the destination, transportation, accommodation, and activities they want to do. The passage should be at least 80 words. This homework can help students further consolidate the knowledge they have learned in class and improve their writing ability.
Encourage students to search for more information about their favorite travel destinations on the Internet or in books, and share it with the class in the next class. This can expand students' knowledge and interest in travel.
教学反思
After teaching this class, I have the following reflections. In the warming - up part, showing pictures of famous travel destinations successfully attracted students' attention and made them actively participate in the discussion. However, in the future, I can also ask students to share some of their own travel photos to make the introduction more personalized.
During the vocabulary teaching, the word - matching game was well - received by students, which effectively helped them remember the new words. But I should pay more attention to the individual differences of students. Some students may need more time and different ways to master the vocabulary.
In the listening part, most students could understand the general idea of the conversation after the first listening. But for some students with weak listening skills, they still had difficulty catching the key information during the second listening. In the future, I will design more targeted listening exercises for different levels of students, and also teach them some more effective listening strategies, such as how to predict and how to take notes quickly.
In the speaking part, students actively participated in pair - work and role - play. However, some students' expressions were still a bit stiff, and they lacked the ability to use vivid and natural language. I need to provide more real - life scenarios and encourage students to think independently and express freely.
The reading part achieved the expected teaching goals. Students could master the main idea and important details of the text. But I can further guide students to analyze the structure and writing style of the text to improve their reading comprehension ability comprehensively.
Overall, this class laid a good foundation for students to learn the unit. But there are still many aspects that need to be improved in my teaching methods and strategies to better meet the learning needs of students.
