Have you ever thought about talking with people working in space? This is something Ezekiel Wheeler from the US began to try when he was 8. Now, as a homeschooled 13-year-old boy, he made a device (设备) by himself to help others speak to astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS).
When Wheeler was young, he was very interested in science. When he turned 8, he decided he wanted to talk with the ISS using ham radio (业余无线电).
To make this happen, a ham radio was not enough. He also needed a satellite tracker (卫星跟踪器). He made his own tracker with a 3-meter-long antenna (天线), and two more small trackers made of Lego. “I wanted to use a fun, practical way to teach students about electrical (电机) engineering,” said Wheeler. So he 3D-printed a desktop satellite tracker.
The program helped Wheeler win second prize in the 2024 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge, one of the top middle school STEM competitions in the US.
Wheeler wasn’t only interested in talking to the astronauts himself. He wanted to let his friends talk to them too. For him, science is everything. “I like to face challenges (挑战),” he said. “I really want to get a result that will work.”

One day, Spiff looked at pictures of Florida on the Internet after lunch. “I really need a vacation,” Spiff said.
