三、阅读理解(每小题2分,共20分)
(A)
The giant panda is one of the most loved animals in the world. It lives only in the mountain forests of central China. Pandas have black-and-white fur, which makes them easy to recognize.
Giant pandas love eating bamboo. They spend about 14 hours a day eating bamboo—they eat stems, leaves, and shoots. Because bamboo is not very nutritious, pandas have to eat a lot of it to stay healthy. Sometimes they also eat small rodents or birds, but bamboo is their main food.
Female pandas usually give birth to one or two babies at a time. Baby pandas are very small—they are only about 150 grams when they are born. They are pink and have no fur. The mother panda takes good care of her babies. She feeds them with her milk and keeps them warm. Baby pandas start to walk when they are about three months old and can eat bamboo when they are six months old.
Now, giant pandas are in danger. Their living places are getting smaller because people cut down forests to build houses and farms. Also, some bamboo forests die because of climate change, so pandas have less food. To save pandas, China has built many nature reserves where pandas can live safely. Thanks to these efforts, the number of pandas is slowly increasing.
21. Where do giant pandas live?
A. In the deserts of western China.
B. In the mountain forests of central China.
C. In the grasslands of northern China.
D. In the rainforests of southern China.
22. How long do pandas spend eating bamboo every day?
A. About 10 hours. B. About 12 hours.
C. About 14 hours. D. About 16 hours.
23. What do baby pandas look like when they are born?
A. They are black-and-white and furry.
B. They are pink and have no fur.
C. They are brown and small.
D. They are white and have short fur.
24. Why are giant pandas in danger?
A. Because they have too many enemies.
B. Because they can’t find enough water.
C. Because their living places are smaller and food is less.
D. Because they get sick easily.
25. What has China done to save pandas?
A. Built nature reserves for them.
B. Fed them with artificial bamboo.
C. Moved them to other countries.
D. Trained them to live in cities.
(B)
The baobab tree(猴面包树)is a very special tree that grows in Africa. It is also called the “tree of life” because it can help people and animals survive in the desert.
Baobab trees are huge. Some of them are over 30 meters tall, and their trunks can be 10 meters wide. The trunk is soft and can store a lot of water—up to 120,000 liters! This is very important because it rarely rains in the desert. When there is no rain, animals like elephants and giraffes eat the tree’s leaves and bark, and people can get water from the trunk.
The baobab tree has a long life. Some baobab trees are over 1,000 years old. But they grow very slowly—they only grow about 1 meter every 10 years.
The baobab tree also produces fruit. The fruit is large and has a hard shell. Inside the shell, there is a soft, white pulp(果肉)that tastes sweet. People can eat the pulp directly or make it into juice. The seeds of the fruit can be roasted and eaten like nuts.
Today, some baobab trees are in danger. People cut them down to get wood, and climate change makes the desert even drier. Local people and scientists are working together to protect these amazing trees. They plant new baobab trees and stop people from cutting down the old ones.
26. Why is the baobab tree called the “tree of life”?
A. Because it is very tall and old.
B. Because it can help people and animals survive in the desert.
C. Because it produces delicious fruit.
D. Because it has a huge trunk.
27. How much water can a baobab tree’s trunk store?

六、书面表达(参考范文)
Dear Tom,
How's it going? I recently learned about an amazing plant in my biology class, and I want to share it with you.
It’s called the Venus flytrap. It grows in wet places in the US, with leaves like small traps. What’s amazing is that when an insect lands on its leaves, the traps close quickly to catch it for food. This helps it get nutrients from poor soil.
It’s important to protect it because its habitats are getting smaller. I think we should all try to protect it. What amazing plants or animals have you learned about?
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
