Recently, the school newspaper made a survey about "△". Here are some students' answers.
Henry: A great way to help you remember something is to make connections. If you make the map, strange or silly, you will remember it better. For example, to remember the word "smiles", we can imagine there is a "mile" between the first letter and the last letter. This makes it the longest word in the world.
Paula: A good way of remembering the spelling of a word is to make a sentence with each letter of the word. For example, if you want to remember the word "because", you can use the sentence "Big elephants can always understand small elephants".
Millie: You will forget something quickly unless you understand it well. For example, you may not remember "astronaut". However, it is easier to remember it if you know "astro" means "stars" and "naut" means "sailors (水手)". Now you see, "astronaut" means "sailors in the sea of stars"!

Since I was young, I have been interested in languages. Once I visited Norway at the age of 7, two boys asked if I spoke Norwegian. I couldn't speak a word, so they ran away quickly, leaving me upset. On the way home, I bought some language books and tried to learn some Norwegian.
At university, I studied combined languages(组合语言), including French, Spanish, and so on. From then on, language learning turned into a way of life for me.
After starting working at 27, I lived with a host family in Germany and finally learned German. The next year, I traveled to the Netherlands and picked up Dutch. In that year, I also took Russian classes in Russia and got a Czech diploma(证书) two years later. It turned out that speaking a language with local(当地的) people was the best way to develop language skills, especially in a time before the Internet.
Today, I've studied more than 50 languages. Usually, I use 15 languages a week and over 30 in a year. I also help save some endangered languages.
Learning languages is like turning a black-and-white TV into a colorful one. And it makes my life colorful, too.
( ) 56. Why did the writer feel upset after meeting the two boys in Norway?
A. They refused to teach him Norwegian.
B. They didn't think his pronunciation was OK.
C. He realized he couldn't speak their language.
( ) 57. Which is the right order for the writer to learn the languages?
A. French → German → Dutch → Russian
B. French → Dutch → German → Russian
C. Spanish → Dutch → German → Russian
( ) 58. What does the underlined sentence mean?
A. People in the past were more ready to help language learners.
B. The Internet now makes learning languages less challenging than before.
C. Practicing with locals was the best since there weren't online learning tools in the past.
( ) 59. What does "30" mean in the passage?
A. The age the writer got the Czech diploma.
B. The number of languages the writer has studied.
C. The number of languages the writer uses in two weeks.
( ) 60. What's the best title for the passage?
A. Journey of Connecting Cultures
B. Colorful Journey of Language Learning
C. Secrets to Learning Different Languages Quickly

Learning is like food for our brains. Just as we need to eat healthy food to keep our bodies strong, also need to learn new things to keep our brains active and powerful. When we learn, our brains range and grow in amazing ways.
Imagine your brain as a garden full of flowers of knowledge. Every time you learn something new, like planting seeds(种子)in this garden. With care and attention, these seeds grow into beautiful powers. In the same way, when we are learning, new connections between neurons(神经元)appear in theain. The more connections we have, the more easily we can remember things and solve problems. For mple, scientists have found that people learning a second language are at a lower risk of having problems with their brains. They explain that when a person is changing the language he speaks, different s of his brain are actually exercising and working together.
What's more, learning keeps our minds young and active even when we get older. People won't get things as much as others if they read books and take up new hobbies like chess.
All in all, learning is a journey to help us grow inside and out. It makes our brain healthier. Let's joy this journey of discovery and never stop learning
