教学过程
1. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual. Then, show some pictures of famous families on the PPT, such as the royal family of the UK. Ask students some simple questions like "Do you know who they are?" "What do you think of their family?" to arouse students' interest and lead in the topic of family.
2. Presentation (15 minutes)
Vocabulary Teaching
Use the PPT to show pictures of different family members one by one. While showing the picture of a father, say "This is a father. F - a - t - h - e - r, father." Write the word "father" on the blackboard and ask students to read it after the teacher several times. Do the same for other family member words like mother, brother, sister, etc.
After teaching all the words, play a "Word - guessing Game". The teacher describes a family member in English, for example, "This is a female. She is your parent." and let students guess which word it is.
Sentence Pattern Teaching
Hold up a picture of a student's family (prepared in advance) and point to the father and say: "This is my father." Then point to the mother and say: "This is my mother." Write the sentence "This is my..." on the blackboard.
Point to the parents together and say: "These are my parents." Write the sentence "These are my..." on the blackboard and explain the difference between "this is" (singular) and "these are" (plural).
Let students look at their own family photos (ask them to bring in advance if possible) and practice introducing their family members using the sentences "This is my... / These are my..." in pairs. Walk around the classroom and offer help if necessary. Then invite some pairs to come to the front and show their photos and introduce their families to the class.
3. Practice (15 minutes)
Listen and Repeat
Open the textbook to Lesson 1 "Knowing My Family". Play the audio of the dialogue about introducing family members and let the students listen and repeat. Pay attention to the pronunciation, intonation, and stress.
Pair Work
Ask the students to work in pairs again. One student closes their eyes, and the other student points to a family member in their photo and asks: "Who is this? / Who are these?" The first student opens their eyes and answers using the sentences "This is my... / These are my..." Then they switch roles. After a few minutes, ask some pairs to act out their dialogues in front of the class.
Group Work
Divide the students into groups of six. Each group is given a large piece of paper and asked to draw a "Family Tree" of one of the group members. Then, each group member takes turns to introduce the family members on the family tree using the learned vocabulary and sentence patterns. After that, select one group to come to the front and show their family tree and introduce it to the whole class.
4. Production (5 minutes)
Ask students to write a short passage about their families. They should use at least five family member words and three of the learned sentence patterns. After they finish writing, ask some students to read their passages aloud in class.
5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Review the key vocabulary and sentence patterns of this lesson with the students. Ask students to summarize what they have learned in this class, and the teacher makes supplements and corrections.
Homework
Ask students to make a more detailed family tree at home and write a short introduction about each family member next to their names. They can also decorate their family trees.
Ask students to teach their family members at least three English words about family members they learned in this class.
教学反思
After this class, generally speaking, most students can master the vocabulary of family members and use the simple sentence patterns to introduce their families. The teaching methods such as using pictures, games, and group work have effectively mobilized students' enthusiasm for learning. However, there are still some problems.
Vocabulary Mastery
Some students still have difficulty in correctly pronouncing and spelling words like "grandparents" and "cousin". In the future, more time should be allocated to vocabulary drills, such as spelling bees and pronunciation practice through imitation.
Sentence Pattern Application
When applying sentence patterns, some students make mistakes in singular - plural forms. For example, they may say "This are my parents." To solve this problem, more targeted exercises, like filling in the blanks with "this is" or "these are", should be designed in the next class.
Student Participation
A few students are still shy and not actively involved in classroom activities. In future teaching, more encouragement should be given to these students, and some easier - level tasks can be assigned to them first to build their confidence. Also, creating a more relaxed and friendly classroom atmosphere is necessary to let every student feel comfortable to express themselves.
