What is a Hoverboard? A hoverboard is a two-wheeled personal transportation device. It’s electrical, portable and became highly popular in 2015. Typically, this self-balancing device operates like a powered skateboard. How Does a Hoverboard Work? The device may have many designs, but the mechanism itself isn’t complicated. Basically, a standard hoverboard contains: •Battery: stores the electrical power. Almost all hoverboards use a high-watt lithium-ion battery. •Gyroscope (one for each wheel): allows riders to tilt (倾斜) the hoverboard while maintaining balance and adjusting their direction. •Motor (one in each wheel): provides the power to the wheels to keep the rider balanced and upright. •Logic board: functions as the hoverboard brain. It processes data—your speed, tilt, etc.—and sends information to the motors. This unit controls the power of the board so riders can adjust their speed. All the above components work together to control the power and tilt of the hoverboards so the rider is balanced, upright and moving at a controlled speed. Why Buy a Hoverboard? Undoubtedly, hoverboards are cool. You’ve probably seen kids riding one around the house. They’re a phenomenon and everybody wants in. So, why deny your kids and prevent them from being part of this trend? Where is a hoverboard legal? Despite their wild popularity, hoverboards have yet to become “street-legal”. Currently, some places prohibit anyone under 16 from using these devices, and hoverboards are banned in academic institutions and public places, like campus buildings, parks, shopping malls and subway stations. Some places have also put speed limits on the devices and restricted their use to bike paths. However, open areas—including your yard—are free of these restrictions. 1. The logic board of a hoverboard can ______. A. store electricity B. power the wheels C. send information to the riders D. receive data and give command 2. According to the passage, you can see a hoverboard can be used ______. A. on campus B. in parks C. on bike paths D. in shopping malls 3. What is the main purpose of this passage? A. To evaluate a gift’s quality. B. To suggest a gift option. C. To compare new hoverboard models. D. To explain functions of the latest hoverboards. B Architecture is amazing. It has changed the way I look and interact with the world and my environment. It has trained me to be hyper-sensitive (过度敏感) to the built environment, to recognize problems and find solutions that an untrained eye would never notice. As much as I love this profession, it is very easy to get lost in architecture. I get so focused that I have forgotten about everything else. Luckily my passion for cycling kept me sane (清醒的) while I was becoming an architect. I faced a lot of obstacles and challenges taking a bicycle ride across the United States. Looking back, cycling across the America was actually one of the smartest things I ever did. I have actually bicycled across the continental USA twice; East to west. Atlantic Ocean to Pacific Ocean, both times. Bicycling across America isn’t as hard as you think. I rode alone on my first trip in 2005 from Virginia Beach to the coast of Florence, Oregon. In the end it was 4,547 miles over the course of 77 days. I left for the second trip in 2007 with my two best friends from Bar Harbor, Maine to Portland, Oregon, which was a 4,886 mile ride over 90 days. At that time, I fell in love with the idea of leaving the east coast behind, starting a whole new life and career in a new city. I ended up in Portland. After arriving in town on a bike, I eventually found a job, a place to live and an amazing dog. I share all this not to convince anyone to go biking across America, but only to share how doing this has changed my life. Architecture has given me a wonderful life and career but it isn’t everything. Thankfully I have also been very passionate about: my friends, traveling, bicycles, punk rock, technology, the internet, my dog, and even yoga. My architecture background has definitely sweetened my relationship with all those things. Becoming an architect is a noble pursuit, but you should keep pursuing everything else that you are passionate about. It will enhance your architecture career and ultimately make you a more interesting person, which in my opinion is really more important than being another silly architect. 4. What’s the advantage of cycling according to the author? A. Changing his negative attitude to architecture. B. Keeping himself focused on his career all the time. C. Enabling him to find solutions without training. D. Making him a much better architect and person. 5. What does the author think of his two cross-country bike trips? A. They are harder than what he expected before. B. They show the benefits of riding with friends. C. They give him some extraordinary experiences. D. They guarantee him a new life and career in Portland. 6. What can be inferred from Paragraph 6? A. Don’t get completely lost in your hobbies. B. Don’t abandon hobbies for your profession. C. Don’t feel ashamed of stopping your hobbies. D. Don’t weigh your family against your profession. 7. In the last paragraph, the author reminds us to ________. A. take up the pursuit of becoming an architect B. find what we are really passionate about C. appreciate other people’s good intentions D. avoid our career taking over other pursuits C According to the great German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, you have the potential (潜能) for greatness inside of you, but like most people, you will probably let it be destroyed by your own laziness. And just as it’s important not to spend all of our time in comfort it’s also important not to spend it working too hard. You might argue that progress can be achieved through slavishness (苦干). But does it make any sense to achieve progress if it’s not enjoyable and if it doesn’t lead us to our potential? If we focus on progress simply for the progress itself, we may fail to live the meaningful life we are truly seeking. The solution to this problem, then, lies in the middle between laziness and slavishness. I call that middle joyful productivity (生产力). It’s about spending your energy in a way that allows you to make meaningful progress each day and avoid the disasters of laziness. As Adam Smith wrote in The Wealth of Nations, “…by reducing every man’s business to one simple operation, and by making this operation the only employment of his life, necessarily increases the skillfulness of the workman.” In his opinion, when you concentrate all of your attention on one area of expertise (专长), you can become a master in it. And when you become a master in that area, you can create things of value, thus promoting your productivity. And how do you pick a single area of expertise? It should be something that you are really interested in, because only then will you be able and willing to spend the huge amount of time and effort it takes to become a master in any field. The end of both laziness and slavishness begins with the discovery of your passions (热爱). Examine the things that caught your interest ever since you were a child before the world told you what you had to care about. The way forward lies within the examination of those early interests. 8. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. Slavishness isn’t a good way to make progress. B. Comfort doesn’t contribute to a meaningful life. C. You can enjoy your life only by making progress. D. Slavishness helps develop one’s greatest potential. 9. In The Wealth of Nations Adam Smith stresses the significance of _______. A. increasing workmen B. focusing on one specific field C. mastering working skills D. creating valuable things 10. What is the function of the question in paragraph 5? A. To show the author’s confusion. B. To excite readers’ comment. C To express an opposite opinion. D. To introduce the next topic. 11. What does the author suggest people do in the last paragraph? A. Care about the world. B. Treasure their childhood. C. Find their true passion. D. Prevent laziness. D Free Wi-Fi has become incredibly important to us: many stores and shopping malls offer it, restaurants use it to attract customers, and for libraries and coffee shops it is a must-have service. Even when people are traveling, they scan for free Wi-Fi, which, according to research released by London’s Amba Hotel on Dec 4, has become the most important standard for selecting a hotel. According to the survey, as many as 67 percent of travelers questioned said that free Wi-Fi would make them more likely to choose accommodation, above other things such as the hotel’s location and friendly staff. When rating a hotel that they’d already stayed in, six in ten travelers believed that unlimited Wi-Fi was the most important factor in their rating. “Today, people treat their smartphones, tablets and laptop s like clothes when they are about to travel to some places. They will never forget to pack it into the suitcase,” said the Daily Mail. “We rely on free Wi-Fi heavily when traveling—especially when it comes to checking social media, searching for travel tips, and accessing websites.” However, despite the opportunities that free Wi-Fi gives us, “our over-reliance on technology has come at a price, with travelers feeling unable to escape social media”, said Lonely Planet, the world’s largest travel guide brand. Anita Isalska, Lonely Planet editor and tech addict, was forced to unplug when she was stuck in an isolated camp in Greenland recently. “Adjusting to this slower pace, it began to dawn on me: somewhere, somehow, social media had changed into a reflex(条件反射),” she wrote. “I had believed I was capturing moments, but in reality my busy thumbs were preventing me from enjoying travel’s most profound pleasures. How fully can you appreciate a huge glacier or grassland of wildflowers when your brain is subconsciously selecting the right photo filter(滤镜), or the perfect six seconds to film?” In September, the brand released 10 predictions for the future of global travel. One of them was that true escapes will be highly valued in future, so remote hotels will start to make their lack of Internet into a feature. Would you like to have an unplugged holiday? 12. Why do travelers attach importance to free Wi-Fi when selecting a hotel? A. They think hotels with free Wi-Fi are likely to provide better service. B. They believe hotels with free Wi-Fi usually have better locations. C They hope to enjoy more profound pleasures while using free Wi-Fi. D. They depend on free Wi-Fi to check social media and access websites. 13. What does the underlined word “unplug” in Paragraph 6 probably mean? A. Check social media. B. Disconnect from digital devices. C. Appreciate beautiful scenery. D. Cancel a travelling plan. 14 What is the lesson Anita Isalska learned from the isolated camp she attended in Greenland recently? A. Travelers should adapt to a slower pace when checking social media. B. Travelers should take more photos and videos during their journeys. C. Addiction to social media has negatively affected the quality of travel. D. Beautiful scenery could be appreciated better if films are shot cautiously 15. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this article? A. To argue against people’s over-reliance on Wi-Fi. B. To promote the growing importance of free Wi-Fi in daily lives. C. To predict what global travel will be like in the future. D. To protest against travelers’ standard when selecting a hotel. Being true to yourself is very crucial in life. They both love basketball and video games. People often saw them laughing and hanging out together during lunch and after school. But a project for their history class brought new challenges to their friendship. The project needed teamwork, but Alex and Jordan had different ideas about how to do it. Alex, who is detail-oriented (注重细节的), wanted to do a traditional presentation. He wanted to do lots of research and make a PowerPoint with lots of facts. Alex thought this would get them a good grade. But Jordan had a different idea. He wanted to act out historical events with costumes. Jordan thought this would be more fun and interesting for their classmates. When they talked about the project, they started arguing. Alex thought Jordan’s idea was too strange and wouldn’t be taken seriously. He thought the skit (小明) could be seen as a distraction. Jordan thought Alex’s plan was too boring and wouldn’t keep the class’ attention. He said a creative presentation would make the history more accessible. The argument got personal, with both friends raising their voices. Alex said Jordan cared more about having fun than doing well in school. Jordan said Alex cared too much about grades and not enough about learning. They both felt the other was making it hard to do a good project and their friendship started to get strained. As days turned into weeks, the once-close friends started avoiding each other. The school atmosphere became awkward, with their mutual friends caught in the middle, unsure of how to help. The basketball court, which used to be a place of shared joy and teamwork, now echoed with the silence of their unresolved conflict. Their mutual friends tried to mediate, suggesting they find a compromise, but both Alex and Jordan were too proud to back down. They each felt that their approach was the best and that the other was being stubborn, refusing to consider the other’s point of view. One day, during a tough game, Jordan fell and hurt his ankle. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From then on, they tried to understand each other. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 玉溪一中2025—2026学年上学期高三9月月考 英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? D 2. C 3. 由•Logic board 部分中的“It processes data — your speed, tilt, etc.— and sends information to the motors. This unit controls the power of the board so riders can adjust their speed.” 由最后一段中的“Currently, some places prohibit anyone under 16 from using these devices, and hoverboards are banned in academic institutions and public places, like campus buildings, parks, shopping malls and subway stations.” 由第一段中的“If you’re looking to buy a gift for your children, why not keep up with the trend and get the best hoverboard?” B。 B Architecture is amazing. 6 What can be inferred from Paragraph 6? A. Don’t get completely lost in your hobbies. B. Don’t abandon hobbies for your profession. C. Don’t feel ashamed of stopping your hobbies. D. Don’t weigh your family against your profession. 7. In the last paragraph, the author reminds us to ________. A. take up the pursuit of becoming an architect B. find what we are really passionate about C. appreciate other people’s good intentions D. avoid our career taking over other pursuits 【答案】4. D 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第一段的“Luckily my passion for cycling kept me sane (清醒的) while I was becoming an architect. (幸运的是,我对骑自行车的热情让我在成为一名建筑师时保持清醒)”和最后一段的“It will enhance your architecture career and ultimately make you a more interesting person, which in my opinion is really more important than being another silly architect.(这将提升你的建筑事业,最终让你成为一个更有趣的人,在我看来,这真的比成为一个愚蠢的建筑师更重要)”可知,作者认为骑自行车让他成为了一个更好的建筑师和人。 根据第六段的“Architecture has given me a wonderful life and career but it isn’t everything. Thankfully I have also been very passionate about: my friends, traveling, bicycles, punk rock, technology, the internet, my dog, and even yoga. My architecture background has definitely sweetened my relationship with all those things.(建筑给了我美好的生活和事业,但它不是一切。谢天谢地,我也非常热爱:我的朋友、旅游、自行车、朋克摇滚、科技、互联网、我的狗,甚至瑜伽。我的建筑背景无疑让我与所有这些东西的关系更加融洽)”可知,职业并非生活中的一切,业余爱好让作者的生活更加和谐。由此推知,我们不能因为职业而放弃自己的业余爱好。故选B。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段的“Becoming an architect is a noble pursuit, but you should keep pursuing everything else that you are passionate about. It will enhance your architecture career and ultimately make you a more interesting person, which in my opinion is really more important than being another silly architect.(成为一名建筑师是一项崇高的追求,但你应该继续追求你所热爱的一切。这将提升你的建筑事业,最终让你成为一个更有趣的人,在我看来,这真的比成为一个愚蠢的建筑师更重要)”可知,作者提醒我们不要用事业代替其他追求,因为其他追求会提升我们的事业,让我们成为更有趣的人。故选D。 C According to the great German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, you have the potential (潜能) for greatness inside of you, but like most people, you will probably let it be destroyed by your own laziness. And just as it’s important not to spend all of our time in comfort, it’s also important not to spend it working too hard. C. To express an opposite opinion. D. To introduce the next topic. 11. What does the author suggest people do in the last paragraph? A. Care about the world. B. Treasure their childhood. C. Find their true passion. D. Prevent laziness. A 9. B 10. D 11. 根据文章第二段“And just as it’s important not to spend all of our time in comfort, it’s also important not to spend it working too hard. You might argue that progress can be achieved through slavishness (苦干). But does it make any sense to achieve progress if it’s not enjoyable and if it doesn’t lead us to our potential? If we focus on progress simply for the progress itself, we may fail to live the meaningful life we are truly seeking.(就像我们不应该把所有的时间都花在舒适上一样,我们也不应该把所有的时间都花在工作上。你可能会争辩说,通过苦干可以取得进步。但是,如果进步并不令人愉快,也不能引导我们发挥自己的潜能,那么这种进步有意义吗?如果我们仅仅为了进步本身而追求进步,我们可能会失去我们真正想要的有意义的生活。)”可知,第二段主要讲述了苦干不是一种好的进步方式。故选A。 根据文章第四段“As Adam Smith wrote in The Wealth of Nations, “…by reducing every man’s business to one simple operation, and by making this operation the only employment of his life, necessarily increases the skillfulness of the workman.”(正如亚当·斯密在《国富论》中所写的那样,“将每个人的工作减少到一个简单的操作,并使这个操作成为他一生的唯一职业,必然会提高工匠的熟练程度。”)” 根据文章第五段“And how do you pick a single area of expertise? It should be something that you are really interested in, because only then will you be able and willing to spend the huge amount of time and effort it takes to become a master in any field.(那你如何选择一个专业领域呢?它应该是你真正感兴趣的东西,因为只有这样,你才能并愿意投入大量的时间和精力,成为任何领域的佼佼者。)”可知,在第五段中,作者通过提问“你如何选择一个专业领域?”来引导读者思考,并为下一段引入新的主题做铺垫。因此,该问题的功能是引入下一个话题。故选D。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“The end of both laziness and slavishness begins with the discovery of your passions (热爱). Examine the things that caught your interest ever since you were a child before the world told you what you had to care about. The way forward lies within the examination of those early interests.(懒惰和苦干的终结始于你激情的发现。审视一下自从你还是个孩子以来就引起你兴趣的事情,那时世界还没有告诉你该关心什么。前进的道路在于审视这些早期的兴趣。)”可知,作者建议人们要找到自己的真正激情。故选C。 D Free Wi-Fi has become incredibly important to us: many stores and shopping malls offer it, restaurants use it to attract customers, and for libraries and coffee shops it is a must-have service. C. They hope to enjoy more profound pleasures while using free Wi-Fi. D. They depend on free Wi-Fi to check social media and access websites. 13. What does the underlined word “unplug” in Paragraph 6 probably mean? A. Check social media. B. Disconnect from digital devices. C. Appreciate beautiful scenery. D. Cancel a travelling plan. 14. What is the lesson Anita Isalska learned from the isolated camp she attended in Greenland recently? B To promote the growing importance of free Wi-Fi in daily lives. C. To predict what global travel will be like in the future. D. To protest against travelers’ standard when selecting a hotel. D 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第四段“We rely on free Wi-Fi heavily when traveling—especially when it comes to checking social media, searching for travel tips, and accessing websites.(我们在旅行时严重依赖免费Wi-Fi,尤其是在查看社交媒体、搜索旅游提示和访问网站时。)” 根据划线词后半句“when she was stuck in an isolated camp in Greenland recently.(她最近被困在格陵兰岛的一个孤立营地。)” 根据第六段“I had believed I was capturing moments, but in reality my busy thumbs were preventing me from enjoying travel’s most profound pleasures.(我认为我是在捕捉瞬间,但实际上,我忙碌的大拇指让我无法享受旅行中最深刻的乐趣。)” 根据第一段“Free Wi-Fi has become incredibly important to us: many stores and shopping malls offer it, restaurants use it to attract customers, and for libraries and coffee shops it is a must-have service.(免费Wi-Fi对我们来说已经变得非常重要:许多商店和购物中心提供免费Wi-Fi,餐馆用它来吸引顾客,对于图书馆和咖啡馆来说,这是一项必不可少的服务。)”和文章最后一段“One of them was that true escapes will be highly valued in future, so remote hotels will start to make their lack of Internet into a feature. Would you like to have an unplugged holiday?(其中之一是,真正的逃离将在未来受到高度重视,因此偏远的酒店将开始把缺乏互联网变成一种特色。你想过一个不插电的假期吗?)”可知,现在人们对于WiFi特别依赖,在外面玩的时候也想要找有WiFi的酒店,但最近的调查发现,人们也想要逃离有WiFi的地方,去尽量的放松自己。因此作者是在反对人们对WiFi的过分依赖。故选A。 Being true to yourself is very crucial in life. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: One day, during a tough game, Jordan fell and hurt his ankle. Alex, who was close by, quickly went to help. In that moment, their old friendship came back to life. Jordan’s pain and need for help broke down the barriers of anger. They sat on the bench, with Jordan’s ankle being iced, and talked. Alex said sorry for being too stubborn, and Jordan admitted to being too quick to act. They understood that their small disagreement was not as important as their long-lasting friendship. From then on, they tried to understand each other. They worked together on the history project, mixing their ideas to make a really good presentation that got them an A. Their friendship, which had been tested by their fight, became stronger and more able to bounce back. In the end, Alex and Jordan learned that being friends doesn’t mean always agreeing; it means understanding and accepting each other’s differences and working together to solve problems. They realized that true friendship is a valuable thing that can last, even when there are disagreements. 词汇激活 行为类: ①帮助:went to help/assisted ②道歉:said sorry/admitted his fault ③合作:worked together/collaborated 情绪类: ①理解:understand/appreciate ②和解:broke down the barriers/reconciled ③珍贵的:valuable/precious 【点睛】[高分句型1] Alex, who was close by, quickly went to help.(由关系代词who引导非限制性定语从句) [高分句型2] They sat on the bench, with Jordan’s ankle being iced, and talked.(with复合结构作伴随状语) [高分句型3] Their friendship, which had been tested by their fight, became stronger and more able to bounce back.(由关系代词which引导非限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
