Friends are very important in our lives. Everyone needs friends. We all like to feel close to someone. It is nice to have a friend to talk, laugh and do things with. Certainly, sometimes we need to be alone. We don’t always want people around. But we would feel lonely if we never had a friend. No two people are the same. Friends sometimes don’t get on well. That doesn’t mean that they no longer like each other. Most of the time they will make up and become friends again. Sometimes friends move away. Then we feel very sad. We miss them very much, but we can call them and write to them. Maybe we would never see them again, and we can make new friends. It is surprising to find out how much we like new people when we get to know them. There’s more good news for people who have friends. They live longer than people who don’t have. Why? It could be that they are happier. Being happy helps you stay well. Or it could be just knowing that someone cares. If someone cares about you, you take better care of yourself. 1.The first paragraph tells us that ________. A.No one needs friends B.we always need friends around us C.making friends is a need in people’s life D.we need to be alone 2.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage? A.People are not happy when their friends leave them. B.People will never see their friends after their friends move away. C.People can get to know their friends in different ways. D.People like their friends very much if they get to know them. 3.People who have friends live longer than people who don’t because ________. A.they feel happier and are healthy B.they get a lot of help from their friends C.they take better care of their friends D.their friends can teach them how to live a longer life 4.The passage mainly tells us ________. A.that people are all friends B.that people need friends C.how to get to know friends D.how to name friends 5.What does the underlined phrase “make up” mean in Chinese? 根据“Friends are very important in our lives. Everyone needs friends.” 根据“Maybe we would never see them again,”可知,朋友离开后,也许我们再也见不到他们了,不是一定再也见不到。故选B。 3. 根据“They live longer than people who don’t have. He says sports make him healthy and relaxed, but his best friend is quiet. Sometimes his friend likes sharing his favorite books with Tom, but Tom doesn’t like them. He thinks they are boring. “In fact, I want to tell him I have different hobbies,” Tom said. “But I don’t want to hurt his feelings and harm our friendship. What can I do?” Friends can be different. This is very common. It is important to talk with your friends. But you should be careful about how to talk with them. Here are some tips for you. First, listen carefully to your friends. Although you may want to explain (解释) yourself, listening to your friends first may keep you calm. You will also better understand your friends. Next, express (表达) yourself politely. Remember, you are not trying to argue (争吵). Winning or losing is not important. Don’t try to make your friends think like you. But one day, the two friends had a big fight. Every time they met each other, they just walked away without any words.   One morning, there was a knock on Jason’s door. When he opened the door, Jason saw an old carpenter (木匠). He asked Jason if there was anything in need of fixing on his farm. Jason thought for a few minutes and asked the carpenter to build a high fence (篱笆) around the farm. “I never want to see Harry’s face again!” said Jason.   The old carpenter then learnt about what happened to the two friends. He thought quietly for a while and said, “I see.” Then Jason went to the city to buy things. When he came back in the evening, he was surprised. He didn’t see any fences, but a bridge over the small river between his farm and Harry’s!   Just then, Harry got out of his house and saw the bridge. He ran across the bridge and hugged (拥抱) Jason. They both said sorry to each other. The carpenter collected his tools and was ready to leave. “Please stay for a few more days. We have more things that need fixing,” said the friends. “I’d love to, sirs,” the carpenter smiled. “But I have many more bridges to build and things to fix in other places.” 1.What problem did Jason and Harry have? They believe that their family members don’t know them as well as their friends do. In large families, it’s quite often for brothers and sisters to fight with each other and then they can only go to their friends for some ideas. It is very important for teenagers to have one good friend or a group of friends. Even when they are not with their friends, they usually spend a lot of time talking among themselves on the phone. This communication is very important in children’s growing up, because friends can discuss something. These things are difficult to say to their family members. However, parents often try to choose their children’s friends for them. Some parents even stop their children from meeting their good friends. Have you ever thought of the following questions? Who chooses your friends? Do you choose your friends or your friends choose you? Have you got a good friend your parents don’t like? Your answers are welcome. 1.Many teenagers think that ________ can understand them better. A.friends B.brothers C.sisters D.parents 2.________ is very important to teenagers. We took the same bus but didn’t know each other’s names. I used to think it was impossible for us to be true friends. How wrong I was! Smiles from the “nameless” people have changed my thoughts. The first time on the bus, I saw different faces, we met, greeted, and cold faces turned into smiling faces. As days went on, we chatted like old friends. But I felt it a pity that I was unable to set up the same friendship with a silent girl in front of the bus. Her old clothing suggested (暗示) that she didn’t have much money, but she always took a glass of water for the driver. I guessed she was a kind girl. But why did she sit in silence instead of talking with us? Why did she never reply to our friendly greetings? Couldn’t she smile? Then, one evening, I got the answer. I walked to the park nearby and found the girl sitting alone under a tree, lonely and sad. I greeted her with the same warm smile that I had shown to her all these months, but this time her face turned red with a shy smile. As soon as she began her first words, I understood why she hadn’t spoken to us before. Talking was hard for her. I learned her story. Her parents worked hard somewhere. She lived with her disabled grandparents. She said, “I can’t express myself very well. Most of the time, I can’t say what I want to say. I have no friends but … You always smile at me like an angel … so I also want to smile.” That evening, we exchanged our names, and we said goodbye like old friends. A smile is the key to opening the door of the heart; it can break the cold walls in front of us. 1.All the following words can describe (描述) the girl EXCEPT ________. A.silent B.kind C.proud D.poor 2.What is the meaning of the underlined word “disabled”? A.无能的 B.残疾的 C.生病的 D.能干的 3.Which of the following is TRUE? A.The girl only talked with the driver. D.The writer can’t make friends with those nameless people on the bus now. 4.The main idea of the passage is that ________. I guessed she was a kind girl.”可知,从给司机带水的行为,能看出女孩kind(善良的);“Her old clothing suggested (暗示) that she didn’t have much money”可知,旧衣服暗示女孩经济不宽裕,即poor“贫穷的”。 根据“She lived with her disabled grandparents”可知,此句表示她和残疾的祖父母住在一起。 根据“That evening, we exchanged our names”可知,说明作者当晚知道了女孩名字。故选C。 4. D。 My Mirror and My Window If you compare my best friend Leo and me, you’ll see obvious differences. I’m the quiet bookworm who enjoys rainy afternoons in the library, while Leo is the life of any party, his laughter louder than the music. Our characters seem opposite—I think more carefully before acting, whereas Leo makes decisions more quickly. Yet our friendship works perfectly. When I joined the school basketball team (a braver choice than I’d ever made!), Leo became my most supportive coach. “You’re becoming more confident!” he cheered after my first game. Though he scores higher in arts classes, he never boasts. “You explain science more clearly than anyone,” he often says. Our biggest test came during the group science fair. Leo wanted a more spectacular volcano experiment, while I preferred a simpler but more accurate model. At first, we argued intensely. “Different approaches don’t mean one is better,” Leo finally declared. We compromised: his creative design with my precise measurements. The project won second prize—stronger than we’d expected! This taught me a valuable opinion: Differences aren’t walls but bridges. Leo’s boldness makes my world brighter, and my carefulness helps him avoid bigger mistakes. Comparing us shows how different pieces fit together perfectly. After all, shouldn’t friendship be richer when colors contrast? 1.How does the writer describe Leo’s personality? A.Quiet and book-loving. B.Careful and hesitant. C.Louder and more confident. D.Supportive but boastful. 2.Why was the science fair project successful? A.Leo created a spectacular volcano alone. B.The writer provided perfect measurements. C.They combined different strengths. D.The competition was weaker than expected. 3.What does “opinion” in the last paragraph refer to? A.Science projects need accurate data. B.Differences strengthen relationships. C.Basketball requires brave choices. D.Libraries are better than parties. 4.Which statement best expresses the text’s theme? A.Friendship eliminates personality gaps. B.Similar interests guarantee success. C.Contrasting qualities create balance. D.Competitions reveal true character. 根据首段“while Leo is the life of any party, his laughter louder than the music.” 根据第三段“We compromised: his creative design with my precise measurements. The project won second prize—stronger than we’d expected!” 根据最后一段“This taught me a valuable opinion: Differences aren’t walls but bridges.” C。 What’s a good friend like? One may have different answers to this question at different ages. When he is very young, he may think a good friend must be together with him all day. And they can share everything together. If his friend doesn’t give him food to eat even once, he won’t think they are good friends any more. But they will play together happily again very soon. When he grows older and studies in a middle school, his idea about a good friend changes. He thinks a good friend should be helpful and honest. A good friend should always help him with his lessons. A good friend should come to him when he is sad. And he is always ready to tell everything to his friend. If his friend tells others about his secrets, he may hate the friend. When he grows up, he may not think it’s necessary for a good friend to be always honest. Everyone has his secrets. If the truth (真相) may hurt the friend, it’s better to keep it secret from him than tell him about it. And he may think a good friend can give him some good advice when he has problems. He comes to understand that he shouldn’t just ask friends for help and that he should also learn to do something for his friends. 1.The writer thinks when a person is very young, ________. A.he doesn’t have any friends B.he has a poor memory C.he usually likes generous friends D.he doesn’t want others to share his food 2.A middle school student DOESN’T want the person who ________ to be his friend. A.helps him when he has problems with his subjects B.may make him happy C.never tells lies D.makes others know about his secrets 3.We should keep it secret from our friend when ________. A.he is very young B.he grows up C.he is unhappy D.the truth may hurt him 4.What does a person want to get from his friends when he is in trouble? A.Money. B.Advice. C.Food. D.Humour. 5.The passage mainly tells us ________. A.what a good friend means to a person at different ages B.how to keep secrets for our friends C.how to make friends D.how important it is to be an honest friend 【答案】1.C 2.D 3.D 4.B 5.A 【导语】本文主要讲述了好朋友对不同年龄的人意味着什么。 1. 根据“When he is very young, he may think a good friend must be together with him all day. And they can share everything together. If his friend doesn’t give him food to eat even once, he won’t think they are good friends any more. But they will play together happily again very soon.” 根据“If his friend tells others about his secrets, he may hate the friend.” 根据“When he grows up, he may not think it’s necessary for a good friend to be always honest. Everyone has his secrets. If the truth (真相) may hurt the friend, it’s better to keep it secret from him than tell him about it.” 根据“And he may think a good friend can give him some good advice when he has problems.” 根据“What’s a good friend like? One may have different answers to this question at different ages.” 故选A。 Do you have good friends? Do you sometimes feel so close to them that they are like family to you? This isn’t just an expression. A study from the University of California has found that you and your friends have more genes (基因) in common than strangers do. Researchers looked at the genes of 1,932 people and compared unrelated friends’ genes and unrelated strangers’ genes. They found that friends have about 1% of genes that match. This is the same amount of genes you share with your fourth cousins, those who have the same great-great-great grandparents as you. So do you happen to become friends with people who share your genes? Not at all. In fact, it is evolution (进化) that brings you together. “People who share certain genes also share skills and have similar likes and dislikes,” researchers said. In ancient times, it was important that people who were alike stayed together. For example, people who were more easily affected by the cold were more likely to help each other build a fire to stay alive. Researchers also found that smell-related genes were most similar in friends. This is probably because people with similar senses of smell are more easily attracted to similar environments. For example, people who like the smell of coffee may visit cafes more often and as a result are more likely to meet and become friends with each other. With these findings, the team has developed an interesting test called the “friendship score”. It can help show the chances of two people being friends. So, here is a question for you: Would you like to take this test and know early who your friends are going to be, or would you still prefer to learn about it by yourself and let time be the judge? 1.What can we know about our friends from the first two paragraph? A.They live close to our family. B.They look like our fourth cousins. C.They never make friends with strangers. D.They share about 1% of genes with us. 2.Why do people with similar smell-related genes become friends more easily? A.They avoid the crowded areas. B.They have better sense of smell. C.They prefer different environments. D.They are attracted to similar places. 3.What is the “friendship score”? A.A method to teach how to make friends. B.A tool to tell if two people can be friends. C.A survey to know about friends’ hobbies. D.A game to check how close the friends are. 4.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A.Friendship: Benefits for Teenagers B.Friendship: Is Taking a Test Necessary? C.Friendship: Influence on Human Behavior D.Friendship: Can It Be Influenced by Genes? 根据“They found that friends have about 1% of genes that match.” 根据“Researchers also found that smell-related genes were most similar in friends. Niki was new to the school, and Vanessa had thought she was a snob (势利的人). That was mostly because Niki hardly said anything, and besides, that was the rumor (谣言) about her. But then, Niki had forgotten her notebook in the classroom by accident, and Vanessa had returned it to her. Then the two girls started to talk, and  they got to know each other. Now Vanessa knew that Niki wasn’t a snob, but she still didn’t understand why Niki wouldn’t talk to anyone. One day, Niki explained herself, “I don’t really know anyone here except you, and I’m kind of shy. I know everybody thinks I’m a snob, but I’m not. I just don’t know what to say to people.” Vanessa had an idea for helping Niki. “If my other friends get to know you,” she told Niki, “they’ll like you, too. So why don’t you sit with my friends and me at lunch tomorrow? Then everybody will see what you’re like.” Niki was very doubtful, but she was tired of everyone  thinking she was a snob. It is very important for teenagers to have one good friend or a group of friends. Even when they are not with their friends, they usually spend a lot of time talking among themselves on the phone. He was trying to work out what had happened. But the panda disappeared. After a while, a tiger showed up. Then more and more crazy-looking characters appeared in the window. The little boy began to laugh. Cheered by these characters every day, the boy’s health had improved so much that he was able to go back to school. There he got to talk to his classmates, and told them all the strange things he had seen. While he was talking to his best friend he saw something strange in his friend’s schoolbag. The boy asked his friend to show him what was inside. They were all the crazy suits (套装) that his best friend had been using to cheer him up. A.The Best Friendship (友谊) B.A Sick Boy C.The Interesting School Life D.A Speaking Panda For years, I went to school by bus, so I met many “familiar (熟悉的)” strangers. B.The girl was too shy to talk to others. C.The writer knew the name of the girl that evening. D.The writer can’t make friends with those nameless people on the bus now. 4.The main idea of the passage is that ________. A.we should help those silent people B.smiles can deal with every difficulty we meet C.we should smile to the nameless people on the bus D.smiles can help us get closer and understand each other better My Mirror and My Window If you compare my best friend Leo and me, you’ll see obvious differences. What’s a good friend like? A.what a good friend means to a person at different ages B.how to keep secrets for our friends C.how to make friends D.how important it is to be an honest friend 重难语篇提升练 Do you have good friends?
