Youth Creativity Program Proves to Be Great ‘Idea’
To celebrate the first anniversary of Beijing’s Central Axis becoming a UNESCO World Heritage site, Tencent News created a board game based on a junior high student’s idea.
The game, called Beijing’s Central Axis: The Architect, lets players act as architects. They use cards and tools to "build" historical buildings along the axis. Each card represents either a helper tool or a special event, mixing historical facts with Chinese architectural beauty and design philosophy.
The idea came from Yang Ziruo, a 14-year-old student at Beijing No. 35 High School. In April, Tencent News started the "Ideas" program to help young people turn their creative dreams into reality.
Yang first became interested in the Central Axis when she was 5 years old during her first visit to its historic sites. Later, she learned more about its history and culture. She even became a young volunteer guide at several museums the next year.
Inspired by the popular card game Legends of the Three Kingdoms, Yang suggested making a board game about the Central Axis. She wanted to use fun activities to get more young people interested in this cultural treasure.
Huang Chenxia, a manager at Tencent News, said that working together can make ideas powerful. She hopes the "Ideas" program will help more young talents make their dreams come true.
The board game will be donated to schools and rural institutions across China.
