Lesson 7: What Is the Meaning of Life? 一.Teaching Objectives Language Competence: 1. Students can understand and use key words and phrases like in conversations. 2. They can also talk about the meaning of life and success fluently. Cultural Awareness: Students can learn that different people may have different views on life and success, and respect these differences. Thinking Quality: Students can think critically about the meaning of life and success, and express their own opinions logically. Learning Ability: Students can improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through group work and surveys. Teaching Procedures Step 1: Warm-up - Teacher's Activity: Show some pictures of famous people (such as scientists, artists) and ask students: Do you know these people? What do you think makes them successful?" - Students' Activity: Discuss in pairs and share their ideas. Step 2: Pre-reading -New words:meaning ……是什么意思? What is the meaning of……? What does it mean ? What do you mean by……? Teacher's Activity: -Ask students the questions in "THINK ABOUT IT": Do you know any successful people? What does success mean to you? What are your dreams for the future? Let students talk in groups of four. Students' Activity: -Discuss in groups and then some students share their answers with the class. Step 3: While-reading Teacher's Activity: - Play the recording of the dialogue. Ask students to listen carefully and answer: What are Li Ming and Wang Mei talking about? - Ask students to read the dialogue again. Then let them find out the key words and phrases, and explain them in simple English. Students' Activity: - Listen to the recording and answer the question. - Read the dialogue, find key words and phrases, and try to understand them. Step 4: Post-reading Teacher's Activity: - Divide students into groups. Ask each group to make a survey about "What is the meaning of life?" and "What is success?"
