发簪的故事
I
am
a
bone
hairpin(发簪)
from
the
Fals
of
the
Ohio
River
region.
Nearly
6,000
years
ago,
I
held
my
owners
long
black
hair
in
place.
If
you
could
hold
me
in
your
hands
right
now,
you
would
feel
how
round
and
smooth
I
am.
You
would
also
see
how
the
oil
of
my
owners
hands
and
hair
made
my
top
and
sides
shine.
I
dont
look
like
the
front
leg
of
a
deer,
but
thats
what
Im
made
of.
The
straight,
hard
bone
is
perfect
for
hairpins.
My
maker
cut
thebone
into
four
long
pieces.
He
chose
the
straightest
piece,
cut
it
with
a
sharp
stone
knife,
and
then
snapped
off
the
joint.
He
expertly
formed
my
T-shaped
top
and
smoothed
my
shaft(柄)
with
a
smal
sandstone
rock
and
alittle
water.
Then,
he
engraved(雕 刻)
a
beautiful
design
with
a
sharp
stone.
When
I
was
new,
I
was
tal
and
thin,
and
kind
of
bent(弯曲的)
when
I
held
her
hair.
Everywhere
she
went,
I
went.
From
my
place
at
the
back
of
her
head,
I
heard
her
talking
to
others.
I
held
her
hair
when
she
danced.
I
had
another
job
to
do
too.
The
shape
of
my
top
and
my
designs
were
like
a
warm
welcome
to
strangers.
Once
they
saw
me,
they
knew
who
my
owner
was
and
who
her
family
was.
One
cold
winter
morning,
as
she
pushed
me
through
her
hair,
I
broke!
Perhaps
it
was
too
cold,
or
maybe
I
was
too
old.
She
took
me
to
her
friend—a
carver(雕刻师).
Since
just
my
tip
had
broken
off,
he
reshaped
me.
I
was
two
inches
shorter,
but
I
could
stil
do
my
job!
For
several
more
years,
I
held
her
graying
hair
in
place.
A
This
time,
I
broke
into
two
pieces.
Now,
I
was
too
smal
to
be
a
hairpin.
B
She
kept
both
pieces
of
me
for
a
while.
But
since
her
people
moved
often,
she
lost
one
piece
in
time.
C
And
I
was
thrown
away
into
a
pile
of
rubbish.
D
And
there
I
stayed
for
thousands
of
years.
Then,
