In the 1940s, Pollock transformed the art world. Instead of painting on a standing canvas (画布), he laid it on the floor and let paint drip and splatter (飞溅). The lines and drops in his artworks might seem messy, but they aren’t. Scientists now say they show patterns similar to those found in nature, like in clouds and along coastlines. A team of researchers studied his Untitled 1948-49. This painting features wavy red lines that twist and curl, which are formed due to “coiling”. Coiling is a fluid behavior that happens when a thick liquid flows and twists, like a rope folding onto itself. People once thought Pollock made these lines by moving his hand in a special way, but he didn’t. In fact, by moving his arm at different speeds and using paints of different thicknesses, he could control how much coiling appeared in the final painting. The first scientific papers about coiling didn’t appear until the late 1950s. But Pollock knew all about it in 1948. He was famous for searching for using different kinds of paints, and mixing his paints with special chemicals to make them thicker or thinner. “When Pollock was doing that, in a way he was doing fluid dynamics experiments,” Herezynski said. “What’s interesting here is that he set out to explore that effect in his paintings before physicists were exploring it.” Pollock probably didn’t realize how he was using fluid dynamics in his paintings. He just followed his feelings. “He wasn’t trying to explore the physics behind the process but to create a certain artistic look. But the two were connected — You can’t separate them.” Herezynski added. 1.What made Pollock’s paintings special? A.He painted them on the floor. B.He unknowingly used physical laws. C.He drew inspiration from nature. D.He invited physicists to be co-authors. 2.How did Pollock create the coiling effect in his paintings? A.By using ropes to guide paints. B.By following a fixed color order. C.By making unusual hand motions. D.By adjusting paints’ flowing speed and thickness. 3.What did Herezynski think of Pollock’s experiments? A.They reshaped modern art. B.They explored artistic effects. C.They studied physics behind art. D.They aimed to find the best paints. 4.What might be a suitable title for the text? A.The Secret of Creativity B.A New Way to Learn Fluid Dynamics C.How Physics Changed Painting D.The Advanced Physics of Jackson Pollock Passage 2 Ryan Finley is a sketch (素描) card artist for Topps and a visual arts instructor at Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood, Ohio. Ryan and his 10-year-old daughter, Keira, recently showed their artistic talents at a Beck Center exhibition. The exhibition “Side by Side” includes the pair’s artistic interpretations (诠释) of the same characters and scenes. I first met the Finleys when I was a student in Ryan’s cartooning class. Keira, now a fourth grader, has been creating art since she was a young child. “She was always next to me, lying on the ground drawing,” Ryan recalled. Keira’s love for art continued, and she became a student in Ryan’s class at Beck. The best part of “Side by Side” was having friends and classmates come to see the exhibit, Keira said. “I loved walking around with my dad and talking to everybody.” Keira told local news media that she’d love art even if her dad had a different career. “If my dad wasn’t an artist,” she said, “I’d still probably be doing this.” Ryan’s interest in art also began in childhood. “I’d always be drawing when I wasn’t supposed to be,” he told me. “I’d get notes all the time saying, ‘You need to focus more on your study.’” That passion never left him. “In high school, I took every art class you could possibly take,” he said. Before becoming a Star Wars sketch artist for Topps, Ryan had other jobs, including working as a street artist. When asked what he liked best about his job, Ryan didn’t hesitate. “Surely the art show I just had with Keira,” he said. “It’s hard to even put into words. It’s pretty touching.” Ryan also loves working with his students. “I do my best to make sure that they’re having fun with what they’re doing,” he said. “My favorite part is seeing the growth of my students.” 1.What do we know about “Side by Side”? Passage 3 In the bustling world of contemporary art, a new exhibition titled “Digital Horizons: Art in the Age of Technology” has been making waves. Held at the renowned Metropolitan Art Museum, this exhibition showcases a collection of artworks that blend traditional artistic techniques with cutting-edge digital technologies. One of the highlights is a series of paintings by artist Li Wei. Using a combination of 3D printing and hand-painted elements, Li Wei creates surreal landscapes that seem to exist between the real and the virtual. His work “Ethereal Realms” depicts floating islands with cascading waterfalls, where the 3D-printed textures add a tangible depth, while the hand-painted colors bring a sense of warmth and emotion. Another notable piece is a digital installation by Maria Gonzalez. Titled “Connected Realities”, it consists of multiple interactive screens that display a constantly evolving cityscape. As visitors move around the installation, their movements are tracked, and the cityscape on the screens responds, changing its architecture, population density, and even the weather. This work explores the relationship between human behavior and urban development in the digital age. The exhibition also features a section on augmented reality (AR) art. Viewers can use their smartphones to scan certain artworks, and additional layers of digital content, such as animations and audio narratives, will appear. This not only adds an extra dimension to the viewing experience but also encourages a more active engagement with the art. 1.Where is the exhibition “Digital Horizons: Art in the Age of Technology” held? A.At a local art gallery. B.In an online virtual space. C.At the Metropolitan Art Museum. D.In a technology research center. 2.What can we know about Li Wei's work “Ethereal Realms”? A.It is a completely digital creation. B.It combines 3D printing and hand-painted elements. C.It focuses on real-life urban landscapes. D.It uses AR technology to enhance the viewing experience. 3.How does Maria Gonzalez’s “Connected Realities” interact with visitors? A.By playing different audio tracks according to visitors’ voices. B.By changing the cityscape on the screens based on visitors’ movements. C.By showing different animations as visitors scan the installation with smartphones. D.By adjusting the temperature and lighting in the exhibition area according to visitors’ positions. Passage 4 As AI continues its extraordinary rise as a creative force, we’re entering an era of “aesthetic (美学) inflation,” where seemingly perfectly-composed images, poetic articles, and cinematic storytelling have become available to anyone, instantly and at no cost. Say, a symphony in the exact style of Beethoven or an essay in the voice of Hemingway can be generated in seconds. Does the perfect AI art, however, carry the same value? The value of artworks, as it is, goes beyond what is shown in the museum or the concert hall. We admire Vincent van Gogh not just for Starry Night but for the confusion, vision, and perseverance that shaped it. We don’t just listen to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony; We are impressed at the fact that it was composed while he was deaf. These stories give their creation depth, reminding us that art is not just about aesthetics or skill. Perfection has never belonged to humanity. Across cultures, imperfection isn’t just accepted–it’s embraced. The deep connection between imperfection and creativity in artworks is everywhere. The latter has always made space for mistakes, rough edges, and raw emotion, like the quake in a brushstroke, the crack in a voice -these aren’t things to be fixed, they’re what give art its soul and make human-created art more valuable. Lost in great artworks, like a heartbreaking song, a thrilling movie, or an impressive painting, we travel the artists’ emotional journey, unbox one character’s bittersweet memories, or smile at the unexpected twists the creator carefully lays out. In this light, AI-generated art is not just unnatural. So, Jerry Saltz, an art critic, has a good question, “Calculated and deterministic, AI art is like a beautifully wrapped box shining with techniques. But do you really expect anything when you open it?” Throughout history, the most celebrated works of paintings, literature, and music are always about expression, exploration, and engagement with the world. As AI art is detached from all these grounds, maybe the value of human-created art migrates to the very thing that displays who we are. As Glen Keane, a great Disney producer put it, “AI, or a machine, can’t understand the weight of a character’s sigh,” Maybe, he is right. 1.What is the characteristic of the era of “aesthetic inflation”? A.AI is becoming increasingly creative. B.The world is flooded with instant artworks. C.Classical artworks have made a comeback. D.AI-generated artworks have become spotless. 2.Why are Vincent van Gogh and Beethoven mentioned in paragraph 2? A.To show respect for their creativity. B.To highlight what’s behind human artworks. C.To explain why artworks should be preserved. D.To emphasize the great influence of their masterpieces. 3.What does Jerry Saltz’s question mainly reveal about AI art? A.It’s lifeless. B.It’s unpredictable. C.It’s cutting-edge. D.It’s accessible. 4.According to the author, what does the value of human-created art lie in? A.The unique aesthetic skills. B.The adaptation to AI assistance. C.The reflection of human nature. D.The exploration of human potential. Passage 5 The city of Boston announced recently a major, citywide campaign to re-imagine public art. The Un-Monument initiative has received a donation of $3 million from the Mellon Foundation. The initiative aims to bring residents, artists and groups together to rethink the form and function of public art across the city. “It isn’t always easy to bring new things into public space,” said Kara Elliott-Ortega, Boston’s Chief of Arts and Culture. “Not just because there might be needless and time-consuming procedures, but because there’re spaces that are thought of as kind of frozen in time in a historic way.” Elliott-Ortega said they’ll take advantage of the funding to engage in dialogues with people about the creation of public art through temporary installations (装置), free public events and interactive cultural experiences. “We’re focused on unpacking what kinds of monuments (纪念碑) we want to have in Boston going forward, what they mean to us, what stories are missing,” said Elliott-Ortega. Boston is one of nine U. S. cities to receive funding from the Mellon Foundation. Its president Elizabeth Alexander said, “Regarding other public art, understanding and acceptance are necessary. At the end of this, I hope that the work goes on, with Mellon or with others, because the work of telling stories in public places is timeless work. So the right way is that the work continues in a way that recognizes us in all of our power and beauty.” Victor “Marka27” Qui Onez is among the initial group of artists participating in Un-Monument. He’s creating a large sculptural installation, Elevar la Cultura, consisting of 30 to 40 plastic picnic coolers. “For the most part, people use coolers for leisure time — at celebrations, barbecues, and all those things,” said Qui Onez. The artist, who was born in Mexico, came to America as a child. “But for many immigrant (移民) cultures, the cooler is a way that people who come to this country are able to make an honest living for their families, selling fresh fruit, cooked food, whatever it may be.” 1.What’s the main challenge of re-imagining public art in Boston? A.People are attached to the past. B.There are not enough funds. C.Residents show no interest in it. D.It’s difficult to find top artists. 2.What will the funding be used to do? A.Restore Boston’s old public art works. B.Create public art suitable for Boston. C.Organize more events to collect money. D.Hire more artists to create modern art. 3.What is Alexander’s hope for public art? A.Increasing its quantity. B.Speeding up its progress. C.Keeping it more traditional. D.Making it more inclusive. 4.What does the cooler symbolize for Qui Onez? A.Immigrants’ survival. B.Leisure activity. C.A wealth symbol. D.An artistic tool. Passage 6 “Woman reading book, under a night sky, dreamy atmosphere,” I type into Deep Dream Generator’s Text 2 Dream feature. In less than a minute, an image is returned to me showing what I’ve described. Welcome to the world of AI image generation (生成), where you can create what on the surface looks like top-rank artwork using just a few text prompts (提示词). But closer examination shows strangeness. The face of the woman in my image has very strange features, and appears to be holding various books. And, while I did feel excited at seeing an image appear, I didn’t have any creative satisfaction. Al image generation could impact everything from film to graphic novels and more. Children’s illustrators (插图画家) were quick to raise concerns about the technology. They say AI-generated art is the exact opposite of what art is believed to be. Basically, art is all about translating what you feel inside into something that exists outside. Whatever form it takes, true art is about the creative process much more than it’s about the final piece. And simply pressing a button to generate an image is not a creative process. Beyond creativity, there are deeper issues. To create images from prompts, AI generators rely on databases of already existing art and text. This could lead to the creation of images that are purposely meant to copy the style of other artists, without their agreement. There is an argument that AI generators work no differently to humans when it comes to being influenced by others’ work. However, a human artist is also adding emotion and details into the mix. AI doesn’t do the same — it can only copy. The increasing use of AI will also lead to devaluation of the work of artists. There’s already a negative view towards the creative industry. People will begin to think that their AI-generated “work” is as acceptable as that created by someone who has spent a career making art. It’s nonsense, of course. You can use your mobile phone to take a nice picture of your daughters, but you are no match for professionals. 1.How does the author find his AI-generated image? A.Unsatisfying. B.Amazing. C.Original. D.Creative. 2.What do children’s illustrators value most about art? A.The application of technology. B.The quality of final works. C.The different forms of artworks. D.The process of creating works. 3.What is the main advantage of human artists compared with AI generators? A.The ability to generate new ideas. B.The speed of finishing a work. C.The adaptability of various styles. D.The access to outer resources. 4.Which of the following will the author probably agree with? A.AI will add value to the work of artists. B.Mobile phones have too many functions. C.AI-generated works can’t match human creations. D.Professionals will depend on AI to produce works. Unit 3 The art of painting Passage 3 阅读理解 介绍了在大都会艺术博物馆举办的“Digital Horizons: Art in the Age of Technology”展览。 (Art form) is a unique art form that has a long history and rich cultural connotations. 主要介绍了在大都会艺术博物馆举办的“Digital Horizons: Art in the Age of Technology”展览,包括其中一些艺术家的作品及展览的特色。 1. 根据第一段“Held at the renowned Metropolitan Art Museum, this exhibition showcases a collection of artworks that blend traditional artistic techniques with cutting-edge digital technologies. 【答案】1.B 2.B 3.A 4.C 【解析】本文是一篇议论文。文章讨论了随着人工智能作为创作力量的崛起,人类进入“美学通胀”时代,并探讨了完美的人工智能艺术是否具有与人类艺术相同的价值。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段中“As AI continues its extraordinary rise as a creative force, we’re entering an era of “aesthetic (美学) inflation,” where seemingly perfectly-composed images, poetic articles, and cinematic storytelling have become available to anyone, instantly and at no cost. 根据第二段中“We admire Vincent van Gogh not just for Starry Night but for the confusion, vision, and perseverance that shaped it. We don’t just listen to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony; We are impressed at the fact that it was composed while he was deaf. These stories give their creation depth, reminding us that art is not just about aesthetics or skill. 根据第四段中“So, Jerry Saltz, an art critic, has a good question, “Calculated and deterministic, AI art is like a beautifully wrapped box shining with techniques. But do you really expect anything when you open it?” (所以,艺术评论家Jerry Saltz提出了一个很好的问题,“人工智能艺术就像一个包装精美的盒子,闪烁着技术的光芒。但你打开它的时候,真的期待得到什么吗?”)”即人工智能艺术是经过计算和确定的,就像一个包装精美、闪耀着技巧的盒子。但当你打开它时,你真的期待什么吗?这暗示了人工智能艺术缺乏生命力和深度。因此,Jerry Saltz的问题主要揭示了人工智能艺术的无生命性。故选A。 4.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“As AI art is detached from all these grounds, maybe the value of human-created art migrates to the very thing that displays who we are. (由于人工智能艺术脱离了所有这些基础,也许人类创造的艺术的价值转移到了展示我们是谁的东西上。)”可知,作者认为人类创作的艺术的价值在于它反映了人性。故选C。 Passage 5 The city of Boston announced recently a major, citywide campaign to re-imagine public art. 【答案】1.A 2.B 3.D 4.A 【解析】本文是一篇新闻报道。文章讲述了波士顿市宣布开展一项全市性的重塑公共艺术运动,名为“非纪念碑”计划,并介绍了该计划的相关信息。 1.推理判断题。根据第二段“Not just because there might be needless and time-consuming procedures, but because there’re spaces that are thought of as kind of frozen in time in a historic way.(这不仅仅是因为可能存在不必要且耗时的程序,还因为有些空间被认为是以一种历史性的方式凝固在时间里)”可知,在波士顿重塑公共艺术的主要挑战是人们倾向于认为某些空间在历史上是凝固的。由此推知,人们总是留恋过去。故选A。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段“Elliott-Ortega said they’ll take advantage of the funding to engage in dialogues with people about the creation of public art through temporary installations (装置), free public events and interactive cultural experiences.(Elliott-Ortega表示,他们将利用这笔资金,通过临时装置、免费公共活动和互动文化体验等方式,与人们就公共艺术的创作进行对话)”可知,资金将用于创作适合波士顿的公共艺术。故选B。 3.推理判断题。根据第四段“At the end of this, I hope that the work goes on, with Mellon or with others, because the work of telling stories in public places is timeless work. So the right way is that the work continues in a way that recognizes us in all of our power and beauty.(最后,我希望这项工作能继续下去,无论是和Mellon合作还是和其他人合作,因为在公共场所讲故事的工作是永恒的。所以正确的方式是,这项工作以一种承认我们所有力量和美丽的方式继续下去)”可推知,Alexander希望公共艺术更具包容性。故选D。 4.细节理解题。根据最后一段“But for many immigrant (移民) cultures, the cooler is a way that people who come to this country are able to make an honest living for their families, selling fresh fruit, cooked food, whatever it may be.(但对于许多移民文化来说,冷藏箱是那些来到这个国家的人能够为家人谋生的方式,他们卖新鲜水果、熟食,或者其他任何东西)”可知,对于Qui Onez来说,冷藏箱象征着移民的生存。故选A。 Passage 6 “Woman reading book, under a night sky, dreamy atmosphere,” I type into Deep Dream Generator’s Text 2 Dream feature. 【答案】1.A 2.D 3.A 4.C 【解析】本文是一篇议论文。文章主要论述了AI图像生成技术的特点及其对艺术创作的影响,探讨了其局限性及对艺术家作品价值的潜在威胁。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“But closer examination shows strangeness. The face of the woman in my image has very strange features, and appears to be holding various books. And, while I did feel excited at seeing an image appear, I didn’t have any creative satisfaction.(但仔细观察会发现奇怪之处。我生成的图像中,女人的脸部特征非常奇怪,并且似乎拿着好几本书。虽然看到图像出现时我感到兴奋,但我没有任何创作上的满足感)”可知,作者描述了AI生成图像的奇怪之处,虽然他对图像的生成感到兴奋,但并未获得创作上的满足感。由此推知,他对AI生成图像并不满意。故选A项。 2.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“They say AI-generated art is the exact opposite of what art is believed to be. Basically, art is all about translating what you feel inside into something that exists outside. Whatever form it takes, true art is about the creative process much more than it’s about the final piece.(他们说,AI生成的艺术与艺术的本质背道而驰。基本上,艺术就是将你内心的感受转化为外部存在的东西。无论形式如何,真正的艺术更多在于创作过程,而非最终作品)”可知,儿童插画家认为,艺术的本质在于将内心感受转化为外部表达,真正的艺术更注重创作过程而非最终作品。由此推知,儿童插画家最看重的是创作的过程。故选D项。 3.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“However, a human artist is also adding emotion and details into the mix. AI doesn’t do the same — it can only copy.(然而,人类艺术家还会在创作中加入情感和细节。AI则无法做到这一点——它只能复制)”可知,人类艺术家在创作中会加入情感和细节,而AI只能复制已有内容,缺乏创造性和情感注入。由此可知,人类艺术家的优势在于能够产生新想法并赋予作品独特的情感。故选A项。 4.推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“You can use your mobile phone to take a nice picture of your daughters, but you are no match for professionals.(你可以用手机拍一张女儿的漂亮照片,但你无法与专业人士相提并论)”可知,作者通过对比强调,普通人用手机拍摄的照片无法与专业人士的作品相比。由此推知,作者可能同意AI生成的作品无法与人类创作相媲美。故选C项。 2 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! 6 / 8 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
