This "Theme Reading" is an important part of Unit 2 "The World of Art" in Ren'ai Science Edition (2024) English for Grade 8. 教学过程
A. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Greet the students and show them some pictures of famous artworks, such as Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers, and some Chinese calligraphy works. Ask them if they know these artworks and what they think of them.
Then ask the students: "What is art? What art forms do you know?" Let students discuss in pairs and share their ideas with the class. This activity aims to arouse students' interest in the topic of art and activate their prior knowledge.
B. Vocabulary Presentation (10 minutes)
Present the new vocabulary related to art forms and artworks on the PPT. Explain the meaning, pronunciation, and usage of each word or phrase. For example, when teaching "literature", show some pictures of famous books and say: "Literature includes novels, poems, plays, etc. For example, 'Pride and Prejudice' is a classic English literature work."
