Li Ping, a full-time housewife, sat sadly on the sofa, tears in eyes. She looked slim and beautiful with long hair down her shoulders. Her husband, Wang Gang, did a low-income job. The couple were living a simple life. Wang Gang had a gold watch without a chain, though! Hoping to buy him a festival gift, she started to save money several months ago. But she had just saved 7 yuan! Standing in front of a mirror, she touched her hair, black hair falling down shoulders. She left directly for a barbershop, where the boss was doing the cleaning. “Excuse me, will you buy my hair?” “Yes.” The boss looked up. “How much does my hair cost?” “Up to 200 yuan.” said the boss. “All right.” The boss soon cut Li Ping’s long hair. She took the money and left the barbershop. She searched in one store after another. She got it in a watch shop. It was a gold chain, just worth the watch. They charged 180 yuan, and she paid and hurried home with the remaining 27 yuan. Back home, She looked in the mirror for her short hair and felt a bit sad. A moment later, she became happy again. Next, she hurried into the kitchen and began to prepare the dinner. Nearly seven o’clock, the dinner was ready. Li Ping, holding the gold chain in her hand, sat nervously on a chair near the door. Then she heard footsteps on the stairs. The door opened, and Wang Gang came in, looking tired. Suddenly, he stood still, staring at her. There was an expression in his eyes that she could not read, which scared her! It was not anger, not surprise, not fear, not any emotion she was ready for. Para. 1 “Don’t watch me like that!” She walked toward him. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Para. 2 It was a beautiful hat she admired for months in the shop window! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 “Don’t watch me like that!” She walked toward him, trying to break the silence. “I have a surprise for you!” With trembling hands, she revealed the gold chain she had bought for his watch. Wang Gang’s expression softened as he stepped closer, his tired eyes now filled with warmth. “You did this for me?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. “I wanted to give you something special for the Qiqiao Festival,” she replied, her heart racing. “But... your hair,” he said, glancing at her short locks. “I can’t believe you sold it just to buy me this.” Tears welled up in her eyes again, but this time they were tears of joy. “It’s just hair, my love. You’re what matters most to me.” It was a beautiful hat she admired for months in the shop window! Wang Gang reached into his bag and pulled out a small box, a smile breaking across his face. “I have something for you too,” he said, his voice filled with excitement. As he opened the box, Li Ping gasped in delight. Inside was the hat she had been dreaming of, a lovely wide-brimmed creation adorned with flowers. “I saved up for it,” he explained, his eyes sparkling. “I wanted you to have something nice too.” Li Ping’s heart swelled with love and gratitude. They hugged tightly, realizing that their simple life was rich with love and understanding, more precious than any material gift. 词汇激活 行为类 ①充满:be filled with/be full of ②想要做某事:want to do sth/would like to do sth. ③拥抱:hug/embrace ④意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①颤抖的:trembling/shaking ②快乐:joy/delight 【点睛】[高分句型1] Inside was the hat she had been dreaming of, a lovely wide-brimmed creation adorned with flowers.(运用了完全倒装,省略了that的定语从句) [高分句型2] They hugged tightly, realizing that their simple life was rich with love and understanding, more precious than any material gift.(运用了现在分词作状语,that引导宾语从句) Passage 2 (24-25高二上·河南渑池·期中) Arthur was a good boy doing his best to grow into a good man. Arthur’s best friend was Kyle. If you couldn’t find Arthur, all you had to do was look for Kyle. A few years ago, Arthur’s father was a successful businessman. But things went very wrong when his dad’s business failed. The two boys met when Arthur had to leave his expensive private school, which his family could no longer afford, and go to a public school. Arthur’s mom worked at the local bakery (面包烘房) and brought home boxes of baked goods. Just like Arthur’s, Kyle’s family struggled. They lived on a farm where they could not work any longer because Kyle’s dad was too sick, and his grandmother was too old. Kyle’s mom worked in the laundry (洗衣店) and still managed to grow vegetables for the family. The two families helped each other. Arthur gave Kyle’s family the extra delicious baked goods, and Kyle’s mom gave him baskets of carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, and fruit from the farm. Things took a turn for the worse when Kyle’s 84-year-old grandmother was seriously ill and had to go to the hospital. Kyle and his family were understandably upset, but worse of all were the hospital bills. Fortunately, she survived. One afternoon, Arthur found poor Kyle in tears. “What’s the matter, Kyle?” he asked. His friend wiped his tears. “Nothing, nothing at all!” he said. Arthur had his doubts, but he didn’t press Kyle. “Well, then,” he said. “I have good news for you! My Aunt sent me $50, and my mom said I could spend it on anything I wanted!” “WOW! Does that mean, ...” Arthur smiled. “YES!” he shouted. “That means I’m buying the robot!” “When are you going to buy it?” “Maybe this weekend,” Arthur said. “Now, how about you tell me what’s wrong?” “Grandma is turning eighty-five next week, and I wanted to get her a new album (相册) for the old family photos. The grandmother opened the present. It was a beautiful photo album with the grandmother’s name on the cover. Kyle knew then that Arthur had spent every cent of the money his aunt had sent him on his grandmother’s gift. By the age of 19, Steve was a star baseball player at the University of Minnesota. I wanted to be exactly like him. So when Steve asked me to go with him on a spring fishing trip in northern Minnesota, I was excited! After planning the trip, we gathered clothes and supplies, and began our great adventure. We reached the Superior National Forest in northern Minnesota by early evening. On our way to the campsite, Steve pointed to a small house faraway in one of the mountains, saying that it was the ranger station (护林站) where the forester worked. Finally, after a long walk, we reached the campsite and set up the camp as the sun was setting. Steve knew all the tricks of an experienced wilderness camper. After we gathered enough wood from the forest, he started the campfire using only stone and steel — no matches. For supper we feasted on freezedried beef, wild rice and pea soup. I ate greedily after all that work. Tired enough, we climbed into our sleeping bags early and talked about our plans for fishing the next day. We were still talking quietly when a sudden north wind picked up; the temperature dropped and it began to snow. Steve found a way to increase the temperature inside the tent. He dragged a log (原木) from the forest to the opposite side of the campfire. Then he wrapped (包裹) aluminum foil (铝箔) around the log. The heat from the fire reflected off the foil and into the tent. Soon images of lake fish were filling my dreams. The snow had stopped, but sometime later a powerful wind must have kicked up the flames of our dying fire. I was abruptly awakened by Steve. Our tent was on fire. Frightened, I ran out of the tent immediately. The tent collapsed with Steve inside. Without any thought of endangering myself, I reached into the burning tent and pulled him to the icy lake. Fortunately, we were not seriously hurt. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式作答。 Later, as we stood by the burning tent to keep warm, we considered our difficult situation. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Suddenly, we heard a noise in the forest. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Later, as we stood by the burning tent to keep warm, we considered our difficult situation. Our campsite was in the deep of the forest, really far away from the highway. We were in the middle of nowhere, wearing only underwear, with our supplies burnt into ashes, including our cell phones. Even Steve was unsure what to do next. The only thing we could do was just to sit in the cold air and wonder how to get out of the forest. Suddenly, we heard a noise in the forest. Anxiously we listened and stared into the darkness. A jeep appeared. A forester had spotted the light from the fire and had come to have a check. We jumped into the warm vehicle and the forester drove us to the ranger station, where we were given clothes and were able to call our parents. Steve and I had many more camping adventures from then on, but it was on this trip that Steve began to treat me more like a friend and equally, rather than a younger cousin. Our friendship continues to this day. 词汇激活 行为类 ①出现:appear/turn up ②发现:spot/find ③打电话:call/ring 情绪类 ①焦急:anxiously/with anxiety 【点睛】【高分句型1】We jumped into the warm vehicle and the forester drove us to the ranger station, where we were given clothes and were able to call our parents. At first, they are strangers, then classmates, then friends, then best friends, and so on. I study at Ovom Girls High School in Aba City. My years in Ovom Girls are priceless because it’s the place where I grew up and where my youthful life began. I found the Beautiful With Brain — my group of friends, and that’s the name we are known for. In this group, we experience a lot of things together; we study together and sit together. We have good connections with each other, even with our occasional lapses (失误). The most memorable moment in school was in my last year, when an examination was to be conducted for all graduating students. This exam was not just another test; it was a chance to be recognized (认可) among the best, with the top three performers from each class earning special awards. Our class teacher then announced that only those who had performed well in previous exams would have the opportunity to participate. As the days passed, anticipation (期待) built. When the list of examinees was finally announced, I, together with my group of friends, was extremely excited to find all our names on the list. To celebrate it, we decided to have a small gathering right after school. We rushed to the school cafeteria, bought our favorite snacks and drinks, found a corner and sat together, chatting about the upcoming examination. We shared our hopes and fears, and my friends offered me words of encouragement and support. They reminded me of all the times when we had studied together and how much I had improved over the years. We laughed and joked, trying to ease (缓解) the tension that was building up. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The next day, we worked out a study schedule for the exam. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the morning of the exam, we gathered one last time. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The next day, we worked out a study schedule for the exam. We divided our time wisely among different subjects. We also decided to meet in the library every evening to review together, helping each other with difficult questions and sharing our understanding of the topics. This way, we could clarify our doubts and reinforce our learning. With our combined efforts, we felt more confident and prepared for the exam. The days passed quickly, and soon it was the eve of the exam. We went to bed early, ensuring we were well-rested for the big day ahead. On the morning of the exam, we gathered one last time. We exchanged words of encouragement and hugs. Entering the examination hall, we felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. We focused on each question, recalling the knowledge we had reviewed together. When the exam ended, we walked out with smiles, relieved and proud of our efforts. John’s only hobby was wandering in the nearby picturesque forest. In its center was a shiny clear lake with schools of fish dancing in it. Lovely animals such as deer or rabbits were playing around and cute birds were singing in trees. Fascinated by the beauty and liveliness of nature, he desired to become a great artist and present all the breath-taking scenes to the world. John studied in the local primary school. Life was not easy for John and his mom after his father died. Knowing what hard work his mother did to make ends meet, John really didn’t want his mother to worry. His mother knew the significance of education in life but she was against his dream of becoming an artist. “The profession of artist can’t aid a person in meeting his daily expenses,” she would say. But as each day passed, John’s dream became more passionate. Due to the living circumstances, even buying some new colors would be a luxury. John only used the worn drawing file and limited colors for his daily practice. Though lacking fine painting materials, he never gave up drawing. He spent a significant amount of time staying in the forest, secretly perfecting his craft. With continuous hard work and a distinct gift for art, he drew beautifully. One day John read about a competition being held in the town, whose deadline was only two days away. He got the perfect opportunity to fulfill his desire but he was in a dilemma (两难境地) as for the competition he needed special paints and some brushes. He didn’t have the courage to ask his mother for money as he knew her prejudice against art. That evening his mom returned from work and handed him a few paper notes, saying, “This is for your lunch at school next month.” The money was enough for his desired materials! John’s face lit up. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Early the next morning, John secretly left home with the money. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A week later, a phone call came to John’s home. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Early the next morning, John secretly left home with the money. Hastily, he bought paper and pens for painting, and then dashed to the completion. After signing up for it, he was given the task. It was his time. He was deeply absorbed in his work, forgetting everything around him. After finishing his task, he went home, with birds singing for him. Every day, he looked forward to the result happily and anxiously, though he felt hungry. It seemed that the time stopped. A week later, a phone call came to John’s home. Hearing what the man said, his mother felt puzzled, not knowing how his son had done it, because she knew it needed money. As soon as John arrived home, his mother told him the news, and waited for his explanation. Knowing the truth, her eyes welled up with tears. Hugging her son tightly, she apologized to him. But he was happy, not only because he had got the perfect opportunity to fulfill his desire, but also he was awarded a lot of money because of his work. 词汇激活 行为类 ①猛冲:dash/ dart/ leap ②全神贯注于:be absorbed in/ concentrate on ③期盼:look forward to/long for 情绪类 ①高兴的:happily/joyfully/delightedly ②焦急地:anxiously/ nervously/ worriedly 【点睛】【高分句型1】He was deeply absorbed in his work, forgetting everything around him. She said, “You deserve it for your devotion and effort!” “Thanks, Ms! ” Tim replied with an open smile and walked happily with his prize. Jim hung his head in shame. His mother turned to him and said, “Look, Jim, talent without hard work is simply useless. That boy put efforts and got rewarded for his hard work. Hard work is the only way to success. ” Now Jim understood the importance of hard work. Everything had been going wrong for him. He had had problems at work and his wife had left him for another man. So, after he had been feeling depressed for over a month, he decided to go to the doctor. He had to wait for what seemed like ages in the doctor’s surgery. The bleeding man next to him was looking at his watch nervously; a woman was coughing and sneezing badly; and a baby was screaming. Finally, after he had been waiting for about half an hour, he was called in for his consultation. The doctor was writing a note at her desk when he came in. “Sorry, I’m just finishing something. I’m afraid we’ve been very busy this morning.” She then turned to the man. “So, what’s the problem?” she asked. “Well, I’ve been having a bit of a crisis, you know, lots of problems,” replied the man. “And l’ve been doing a lot of work.” “Mmm, you’re looking very pale.” The doctor started to examine him. “Well, everything is working OK.” she announced afterwards. “You have slightly high blood pressure and yoư’re breathing quite heavily, but otherwise everything’s fine.” 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 “So what can I do?” asked the man. “I’m going on a trip soon.” ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The doctor thought for a while. “I think what you need is a good laugh.” ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 “So what can I do?” asked the man. “I’m going on a trip soon.” The doctor paused, considering the man’s situation thoughtfully. “I understand that life seems overwhelming right now, but perhaps this trip could be an opportunity for a fresh start,” she suggested gently. “Trying new experiences and meeting new people might help shift your perspective and lighten your burden.”  The doctor thought for a while. “I think what you need is a good laugh.” She smiled warmly. “There’s a wonderful comedy club in town where you can unwind and forget your troubles for a while. Laughter is a great medicine, you know. Why not give it a try before your trip?” Inspired by her advice, the man decided to follow her suggestion. A week later, he returned to the doctor, looking noticeably brighter. “Thank you, doctor,” he said sincerely. “The comedy show was just what I needed to clear my mind and face the future positively.” 3. 词汇激活 行为类 ①建议:suggest/advise/make a proposal ②转换:shift/transform ③遵从:follow/obey 情绪类 ①真诚地:sincerely/honestly ②积极地:positively/optimistically 【点睛】[高分句型1] There’s a wonderful comedy club in town where you can unwind and forget your troubles for a while.(运用了where引导的定语从句) [高分句型2]A week later, he returned to the doctor, looking noticeably brighter. My goal wasn’t to make a lot of money, but to serve my neighbors, because they helped me when I was in need. I kept my prices low and made sure everyone felt welcome. Among all my clients, my favorite was a five-year-old boy named Jackson. Jackson was an introvert (内向的人), very afraid of dealing with people, and hated getting his hair cut. So getting a haircut is a special challenge for him. One afternoon, Jaekson’s mother, Emily, came into my shop looking exhausted and desperate. She explained that Jackson had been terrified of haircuts for as long as she could remember. It was typically a bit hard to convince him to sit down. And he’d get so resistant later that he’d start kicking and screaming. They had tried several barbers before, but none had succeeded in making Jackson feel comfortable. Understanding her struggle, I decided to approach the situation differently. Instead of starting the haircut right away, I focused on building a friendship with Jackson. I noticed that he was fascinated by the bright colors of the toys I had in my shop, so I used them as an icebreaker. Over the next few visits, Jackson and I spent a lot of time together without the pressure of a haircut. We played games and built towers with blocks. I even let him “cut” the hair of one of my old dolls. Slowly, Jackson began to trust me. He would laugh when I made funny faces and even started looking forward to our play sessions. After a few weeks, I decided to introduce the idea of a haircut as a fun challenge. I told Jackson that he was a superhero and needed a special haircut to complete his transformation. I brought a small cape (短斗篷) for him to wear and let him hold a toy that made him feel brave. I explained that the haircut was part of his superhero training, a mission he had to complete to gain his superhuman power. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The first haircut was slow and cautious (谨慎的). _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From that day on, Jackson became a regular at my shop. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The first haircut was slow and cautious (谨慎的). I moved the scissors gingerly, constantly checking in with Jackson to ensure he was at ease. Every few seconds, I would stop and ask him if he was okay. His little hands were tightly holding onto the cape, but his eyes showed less fear. With each snip of the scissors, I could see his confidence growing. Finally, when the haircut was done, Jackson looked in the mirror, a big smile spreading across his face. From that day on, Jackson became a regular at my shop. Not only did he come for haircuts, but also to share the joys and sorrows of his kindergarten life. He would bring his new toys to show me and tell me stories about his kindergarten. I was so glad that I could make such a big difference in his life. And seeing his transformation from a scared little boy to a confident one filled my heart with warmth and joy. 词汇激活 行为类 ①确保:ensure/make sure ②抓住:hold onto/get hold of ③填满:fill/stuff 情绪类 ①害怕:fear/fright ②高兴的:glad/happy/delighted 【点睛】【高分句型1】Every few seconds, I would stop and ask him if he was okay.(运用了if引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】Finally, when the haircut was done, Jackson looked in the mirror, a big smile spreading across his face.(运用了when引导的状语从句及现在分词作定语) 主题04 善良 Passage 1 (24-25高二上·河南周口恒大·期中) I was a volunteer for an organisation at the beginning of this year. The organisation is aimed at helping children who suffer from cancer. One day, we were asked to raise money for cancer research and programme funding at an event. Since my friend Lisa was also a volunteer for the organisation, I went to the event with her. There were many people at the event. After seeing our poster, some people came to us and talked with us. But few people donated money. It was a bit hot that day. Both Lisa and I got really upset. Half an hour later, Lisa started complaining, “I don’t think we can raise much money today. ” “Don’t worry. The event lasts for three hours. There is still a lot of time left,” I said, though I also thought poorly of our plan to raise much money that day. While Lisa and I were talking, a little boy of about eight years old came to us. He stood in front of our poster and started reading. After a while, he asked, “What is cancer?” I explained what cancer is. Then I said, “Many people around the world are suffering from cancer. It can be really dangerous. More research is needed to learn about it so that people with it can suffer less. That’s why we’re collecting money for it. ” “Do children suffer from cancer, too?” asked the boy. “Yes. Many children suffer from cancer. Some of them may die. They need help. ” Lisa said and I nodded. Hearing that, the boy became sad. Then the boy asked, “How much money have you collected?” Both Lisa and I were embarrassed to tell him that we didn’t raise much money. At last, we said, “Not much. ” The boy looked into our donation container and only saw a few onedollar and fivedollar bills. The boy said nothing after seeing that and left. Then some girls came to us and we started talking with them. Neither Lisa nor I thought the boy would return. However, about twenty minutes later, the boy did return. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 The boy happily ran to us and asked, “Would you take a donation from children?” ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Both Lisa and I were deeply touched. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The boy happily ran to us and asked, “Would you take a donation from children?” Lisa and I looked at each other. We couldn’t believe such a little boy would care. Though we didn’t believe it, we said “yes”. The boy put his hand in his pocket and took out some fivedollar bills. He said, “I just asked for them from my mother. I really want to help the children suffering from cancer. ” Both Lisa and I were deeply touched. We thanked the boy, but he left soon. Looking at his back, both Lisa and I were greatly encouraged. We wanted to try harder to raise money. So instead of just standing there, we went to people and told them about our programme. At the end of the day, we raised over three thousand dollars, a lot more than Lisa and I had expected in the beginning. 词类激活 行为类 ①看着:look at/see/stare at ②感谢:thank/express gratitude ③努力做:try to do/attempt to do/spare no effort to do 情绪类 ①高兴地:happily/joyfully/delightedly ②感动的:touched/moved ③深受鼓舞的:encouraged/inspired 【点睛】【高分句型1】Though we didn’t believe it, we said “yes”. We were on vacation, just me, my husband, and our two kids, out for a nice, safe, socially distanced week away. We went to a popular place called Diana's Baths, where the water falls off a series of flat rocks up the mountain. The baths were full of families, so we made our way to one of the upper levels of rock to keep our distance. Both where we sat and down below, the water fell down and into small pools, where kids in swimsuits were playing water around. I was frightened as I saw my two boys jump between the smooth rocks. I told them to stay away from all those edges. But I soon relaxed, and we were all having fun, laughing in the pools. Suddenly, I turned and saw my son Wyatt sitting down between two rocks in fast-moving water. I shouted at him to get out. He called back something that I couldn't hear, and then he disappeared over the edge. All I remember from the moments after was screaming, over and over, like a prayer, “Somebody help my son!” I didn't even know what help he needed, because I couldn't force myself to look. My husband was already jumping down the rocks. I finally looked. Wyatt was sitting up-he was alive. My biggest fear was gone. As I held my younger son, Jed, close, I heard another woman scream. “That child just went over the waterfall!” she shouted at her husband. “We are leaving!” They walked away, never even looking back to see whether our child was OK. It was about 4 meters from the top of the waterfall to the pool below, which was filled with huge rocks. Wyatt had fallen on his back, straight onto the rocks. That's what Lisa told us. We didn't know her name was Lisa at that point. All we knew was that while everyone else looked on from a distance, too afraid or unbothered to help, Lisa didn't hesitate. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Later, Lisa told me that she was a nurse. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The rescue team finally came. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Later, Lisa told me that she was a nurse. In fact, by the time I climbed down the rocks and my husband pulled Wyatt out of the water, she had already called 911. She put a red, white, and blue towel under Wyatt's head. She told us to keep him still and on his back in case he had injured his bones. I finally had time to ask her name. “Lisa,” she said. “And I'm not leaving you.” The rescue team finally came. They took Wyatt out of the park to the nearest hospital. Wyatt had three broken bones and a wound in lung—injuries that sound terrible but recover on their own. As soon as I knew that Wyatt was going to be OK, my thoughts fell to Lisa. If she had not stepped up, would someone else have done so? Perhaps. But it was her. She was the one who went toward the unthinkable instead of turning away. 词汇激活 行为类 ①站出来:step up/come forward②.转身离去:turn away/turn around to leave 情绪类 可怕: terrible /horrible 【点睛】[高分句型1]. You can’t get in without the money.” Jeffrey, the bus driver, told a little girl who wanted to get on the bus but only had a few pennies. She must have been around seven years old, and he wasn’t in the mood to deal with unaccompanied children that day. “Please, sir. I want to visit my grandmother,” the little girl begged. “Then go ask your parents for the money and come back next time,” Jeffrey replied and gestured with his hand for the girl to get out. She finally left the bus with her shoulders lowered. Jeffrey saw her sit down at the bus stop and drove off. He finished his route and went home for the lunch, greeting his wife, Greta, and sitting down on the couch to rest. When he browsed his Facebook posts, an image caught his attention. A picture was shared of the little girl he had just turned away a few hours earlier. The word “Missing” was written on top of the image. He learned that the girl had disappeared a day ago, and her parents were desperately trying to find her. “Dear! What have I done?” he asked himself, standing up and going to the front door. When Greta asked where he was going, Jeffrey said, “Greta! Quick! Call 911 and this number,” showing her the picture of the girl. “I saw this girl at a bus stop earlier, and I turned her away because she didn’t have enough money. I’m going to find her, but please make those calls.” Having told her where the bus stop was, he went out. Jeffrey rushed to his car, speeding to the bus stop. Hopefully, the girl was smart enough to stay in one place. He couldn’t believe how careless he had been earlier. She was a little girl all alone. As he drove to the bus stop, Jeffrey vowed to be more careful in the future, especially when it came to children. Finally, Jeffrey saw a tiny figure sitting on the bench at the spot. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A few minutes later, the police and another car approached. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Finally, he saw a tiny figure sitting on the bench at the spot. Jeffery felt relieved and delighted to see the girl staying safe and sound. Trying to calm himself, Jeffery decided to talk to her gently. He inquired about her name and why she had left home. “I was going to Grandma’s house. My mom wouldn’t let me go.” Sarah replied, swinging one of her feet and looking at the concrete floor. “Your parents are searching for you, and they’ll be here soon,” he assured her, and the little girl gave him a small smile. A few minutes later, the police and another car approached them. A woman got out of the vehicle and rushed toward Sarah. The little girl got up and ran to her, yelling, “Mommy!” The police officers approached Jeffrey and he told them the entire story and how he regretted not letting her on the bus, so he came to find her. Sarah’s parents thanked him for what he had done. From then on, Jeffrey helped anyone short on cash who got on his bus, and he always watched out for the kids that were alone because they needed someone like him to do the right job. 3.词汇激活 行为类 ①询问:inquire/question/query ②大喊:yell/shout/scream ③靠近;接近:approach/draw near/come near to 情绪类 ①高兴的:delighted/happy/pleased ②温柔地:gently/lightly/softly ③向……保证;确保:assure/guarantee/ensure 【点睛】【高分句型1】Sarah replied, swinging one of her feet and looking at the concrete floor.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) 【高分句型2】 From then on, Jeffrey helped anyone short on cash who got on his bus, and he always watched out for the kids that were alone because they needed someone like him to do the right job.(运用了who和that引导的定语从句和because引导的原因状语从句) 主题01 亲情 Passage 1 (24-25高二上·河南信阳·期中) The power of belief “You will never walk again. You will have to use a wheelchair.” Unprepared for the doctor’s judgment, I heard his words fall heavily on my ears, numbing my soul. My serious car accident had left me unconscious and in critical condition. I awakened to find both leg: wrapped in casts (石膏). Lying in my bed motionless and relying on prayer, I wondered how I could give my ten-year-old son hope that Mom would heal. He’d been cheerful on every visit, but I saw the fear in his eyes. The thought of having a totally handicapped (残疾的) mother was weighing heavily on his little shoulder. He needed the ray of hope that I would not be in a wheelchair forever. Just maybe, I thought, I could use this experience to teach what to do when disasters strike. I needed something besides my physical healing to sink my Irish stubbornness into—it’s that personality that kept me going through the toughest challenge of my life It didn’t take me long to become impatient with the pace the doctors were willing to go with me. I determined to learn everything they showed me. I needed to make things happen my way. And being confined (限制) to a wheelchair the rest of my life didn’t fit into my plans. At first, I taught myself to move from the bed to the wheelchair. I made tiny movements for weeks, afraid of falling, but more afraid to just lie in bed. I reached a point where my arms were strong enough to carry me into the chair. Getting out of the chair and back into bed proved more difficult, but I soon developed a method of grabbing the sheets. I often wondered what the nurses and doctors would have done if they’d seen me struggling on my own. Once sure I could return myself to the bed from the wheelchair, I began to use a walker that had been left in my room by a former hospital roommate. Every night, when I knew I wouldn’t be interrupted (打扰), I would start to train. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ It came time to share my achievements with the person most important to me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Every night, when I knew I wouldn’t be interrupted (打扰), I would start to train. With each passing day, I became more skilled at moving myself into the chair and sought greater progress. Holding a walking stick, I slowly put my weight on my feet and rose to my feet. Difficult as it was at the very beginning, the phrase “give up” never popped into my mind. Fueled by unwavering self-belief, I persisted in my practice, night after night. And every midnight witnessed my struggle to move another inch farther. Fortunately, all my efforts paid off — I made it! It came the time to share my achievements with the person most important to me. One night, when hearing my son’s footsteps outside, I pulled myself into the chair and dragged myself up. As he opened the door, I mustered the strength and staggered a few steps. Shocked, this little ten-year-old boy stood rooted to the spot. This time, instead of fear, a light of excitement twinkled in my lovely boy’s eyes. “Mommy, you can walk!” he exclaimed, sprinting into my open arms. The moment I heard these words, all of the pain faded, and the power of belief surged in my heart. 词汇激活 行为类 坚持:persist in /stick to 回报:pay off/repay 成功:make it/succeed 鼓起:muster/gather 情绪类 惊讶的:shocked/astonished 坚定不移的:unwavering/determined 【点睛】[高分句型1] Difficult as it was at the very beginning, the phrase “give up” never popped into my mind. Six months before, her child Emily was diagnosed (诊断) with lung disease. Now, her daughter’s condition got worse and she had to have surgery. Harper did two cleaning jobs and sold some furniture (家具). But the money was far from enough for Emily’s surgery. Finally, she decided to sell all the remaining furniture and even her husband’s possessions in a second-hand market. And she planned on selling her house though she didn’t know where to live after that. In the market, Harper ran into Barbara, an old lady, who was picking out second-hand clothes. What attracted Harper was that the woman was picking only the best clothes and talked with the seller to cut the cost by a few dollars. “I want all these clothes. I still ask you to reduce the price by at least $10. It has been pretty long since the women and the children in my shelter wore something nice,” said Barbara. Harper was surprised. “Women and children in her shelter?” The seller nearby explained it to her. It turned out that Barbara ran a shelter for single mothers and their kids. She fed them, sheltered them, and at times, shopped for affordable second-hand clothes for them. Harper was moved by Barbara’s kindness and offered to give her husband’s clothes and boots for free. “Are you sure you want to give them for free, my dear?” Barbara asked. “And why are your eyes so red? Is there something I can help you with?” Harper was too shy to ask for help and didn’t want to cause trouble for Barbara. Therefore, she shook her head. Barbara looked at her a little confused and said nothing more. Harper thought they would never meet again, but the next day, a loud sound of car horns (喇叭) outside her house surprised her. Barbara got out of the car. “Ms Barbara! What are you doing here?” Harper asked, her eyes wide with surprise. Barbara smiled warmly, her eyes shining with kindness. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Moved to tears, Harper could barely speak. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Barbara smiled warmly, her eyes shining with kindness. “I’ve come to help, Harper,” she replied. “I heard about your situation from a friend at the second-hand market. You see, when you give selflessly, the universe has a way of giving back.” Barbara explained that she had arranged for Harper to stay in her shelter as long as she needed after selling her house. “You’ll have a place to live, and we’ll help you with Emily’s treatment together,” she said, her voice filled with compassion. Moved to tears, Harper could barely speak. “I don’t know how to thank you,” she managed to say, her voice choked with emotion. “Don’t thank me,” Barbara said, taking Harper’s hands in hers. “We’re all in this together. Let’s get through this one day at a time.” Over the next few weeks, Harper and Emily moved into the shelter. The community there provided emotional and financial support, helping Harper to go through the challenges she faced. A mom and dad in Oklahoma must be especially proud of their little boy after he rose to the occasion with rare and praiseworthy courage when their lives were in danger. His quick thinking and heroism were larger than life and well beyond what you’d expect for his years. The story began when tornadoes hit the area of Marietta, Oklahoma, at the end of April. Wayne Baker, a husband and father who lives in the area, noticed an odd stillness in the air. He didn’t hesitate, gathering his wife, Lindy, and their son, nine-year-old Branson, jumped in their truck and headed for a neighbor’s storm shelter. But on the way there, the tornado, like a fierce beast of nature, caught up with them with howling winds and spinning (旋转的) cloud. In a second, a massive tree was lifted from the earth and hurled (猛扔) towards their truck, destroying the vehicle like a fragile toy. Wayne and Lindy were badly injured and trapped at the scene: Wayne Baker’s back, neck and arm were broken. He also lost part of a finger. Lindy Baker’s back, neck, jaw, ribs (肋骨), and right hand were broken. She went through the windshield and remained halfway into the vehicle and halfway out. It was pretty horrible. Thankfully, young Branson was uninjured in the backseat, and it became his mission to save his parents. This little boy had escaped death just moments before. Most of us (of any age) wouldn’t want to take a single step in such conditions. Yet with all these scary things around him, somehow nine-year-old Branson found the strength to go for help. Despite the chaos and danger, he managed to climb out of the broken car. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When Branson explained the situation, they immediately sprang into action. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Despite the chaos and danger, he managed to climb out of the broken car. The wind howled around him, and debris flew through the air, but Branson knew he couldn’t give in to fear. His parents were counting on him. He stumbled through the mud and rain, desperately searching for help. Finally, he reached his neighbors’ house and banged on the door with all his might. When Branson explained the situation, they immediately sprang into action. They pulled open the door, their faces etched with concern as Branson, soaked and trembling, told them about the accident. Without hesitation, they called 911. Soon, sirens wailed in the distance, and the emergency services arrived. Working quickly, they carefully extracted Wayne and Lindy from the wreckage. Branson watched, his small chest swelling with relief as his parents were carried into waiting ambulances. He had faced the storm and, through his courage, saved his parents’ lives. 词汇激活 行为类 ①指望:count on/depend on ②寻找:search for/seek for ③拨打:call/dial 情绪类 ①担忧:concerned/worry ② 缓解:relief/easement 【点睛】【高分句型1】The wind howled around him, and debris flew through the air, but Branson knew he couldn’t give in to fear.(运用了省略引导词that引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】Branson watched, his small chest swelling with relief as his parents were carried into waiting ambulances.(运用了as引导的状语从句) 主题02 友情 Passage 1 Maureen Stanko always thought her son, Nick, had so much to give — he needed to be given much care and attention. Nick was 20 and was on the autism (孤独症) and despite her knowing he had so much to give, what he would do after graduation kept the mom up at night. She always lay in bed at midnight, wondering what was going to happen to her son. In Pennsylvania, where they lived, students with disabilities could stay in school until they were 22 years old. Stanko said she’d heard from many parents of kids with disabilities that they worried about their kids’ futures. And she actually remembered a saying that her father had: When you have a problem, hope like crazy then get up off your knees and do something. And that was when it popped in her head: so much to give. She brought her worry to Nick’s therapist (治疗师), Tyler Kammerle, who told her he had a goal of opening a restaurant to employ people with disabilities. They teamed up with donors to make that dream a reality, and about two years later, “so much to give” was no longer just Stanko’s worry. It was a restaurant. They opened the So Much To Give Inclusive Cafe in Cedars, Pennsylvania in January 2023. They employed 63 people — 80% of the employees with a disability — and they worked as greeters, food runners, chefs, dishwashers and servers. The cafe was not only a place to work, it’d become a safe space for others with disabilities to dine. Stanko even never took Nick to any restaurant before this cafe opened. Because she thought it wasn’t worth it. Nick didn’t know how to sit in a restaurant. He would stand up and start hopping like a rabbit or clapping or yelling. Stanko wondered if Nick would be able to work at the cafe because of his disability. Hesitantly and worriedly, Stanko took Nick to the cafe to work. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Inspired by Nick’s excellent performance in the cafe, Stanko opened up a studio to teach the disabled skills. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Hesitantly and worriedly, Stanko took Nick to the cafe to work. At first, Nick was a bit nervous and clumsy. But with the patient guidance and encouragement from his colleagues, he gradually found his rhythm. Nick started to enjoy his tasks, whether it was clearing the tables or greeting the guests. Stanko watched in astonishment as her son grew more confident and independent. Inspired by Nick’s excellent performance in the cafe, Stanko opened up a studio to teach the disabled skills. In this studio, various courses were offered, from basic cooking to art and craft. The disabled individuals, filled with enthusiasm and a hunger for learning, flocked to the classes. They focused intently on each lesson, eager to master the new skills. Under Stanko’s dedicated guidance, they made remarkable progress. The studio became a hub of creativity and self-improvement. Stanko felt a deep sense of fulfillment seeing their growth and the joy on their faces. It was a testament to the power of determination and the belief in one’s potential. 词汇激活 行为类 ①开始:start/commence ②提供:offer/provide ③专注于:focus on/concentrate on 情绪类 ①紧张地:nervous/tense ②惊讶地:in astonishment/in surprise 【点睛】【高分句型1】Nick started to enjoy his tasks, whether it was clearing the tables or greeting the guests. Their house, surrounded by a garden full of greenery, was a picture of family happiness. Next to them, in a lonely courtyard, lived an old man, Mr. Thompson, who lived alone. He used to be a teacher, but now he’s retired. Mr. Thompson’s health wasn’t what it used to be. His children, now grown, lived far away in a noisy city, leaving him often alone. The Wilsons-Max, Sarah, and their two children-were his frequent visitors, ensuring he had companionship and assistance. Mr. Thompson, in turn, was a caring neighbor, always willing to watch over the Wilsons’ children and pets. One winter, Mr. Thompson had fell on the ice and hurt his leg. It was Max who had rushed to help him, making sure he was safe and comfortable until the doctor arrived. Since then, they had been even more careful to check on Mr. Thompson regularly. As spring arrived, the Wilsons’ garden bloomed (开花) with colorful flowers and fresh greenery. One sunny afternoon, Max’s youngest son, Daniel, looked up from playing and said, “Dad, I haven’t seen Mr. Thompson looking over the hedge (树篱) for a while. “Max stopped his work and a wave of realization washed over him as he looked at the thickening hedge. Max remembered seeing a sad look in Mr. Thompson’s eyes a few days before. However, he hadn’t paid much attention to it. Now, he understood that the growing hedge had made their kind neighbor feel lonely. He remembered Mr. Thompson’s kind eyes, usually looking over the hedge with a friendly wave. He thought about the times they had shared, the laughter and the knowledge Mr. Thompson had passed on to his children. Now, as he looked at the hedge that had grown wild and untrimmed (未修剪的), he felt a sense of loss. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Determined to reconnect, Max gathered his family. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Seeing the Wilsons, Mr. Thompson’s face lit up with joy. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Determined to reconnect, Max gathered his family. “We need to help Mr. Thompson,” he said. “Let’s trim the hedge and clean up our yard so he can see us again.” Everyone agreed, excited to take action. They spent the afternoon cutting back the overgrown branches and clearing weeds. As they carefully trimmed the hedge, lowering its height, Mr. Thompson’s house gradually came back into view. Just then they saw an old man standing in the doorway. Seeing the Wilsons, Mr. Thompson’s face lit up with joy. He stepped outside, “Thank you, friends, for all of this.” he said, his voice shaking a little. Wilson shook his head with sorrow, while the children excitedly chatted with the old man about recent events. Then they tidy up the old man’s garden. They spent a sunny afternoon together, talking and laughing, just as before. The hedge is no longer a wall, but a symbol of their friendship. Mr. Thompson never felt lonely again, for he knew that the neighbors were always with him. 词汇激活 行为类 ①采取措施:take action/take measures ②进入视线:come into view/come into sight ③整理:tidy up/neaten 情绪类 ①兴奋的:excited/thrilled ②遗憾:sorrow/pity 【点睛】【高分句型1】As they carefully trimmed the hedge, lowering its height, Mr. Thompson’s house gradually came back into view.(运用了as引导的状语从句) 【高分句型2】Wilson shook his head with sorrow, while the children excitedly chatted with the old man about recent events.(运用了while引导的状语从句) 主题03 成长 Passage 1 (24-25高二上·河南郑州一中·期中) In Arizona, there was a high school where many students were poor. Among them were four friends: Juan, Oscar, Luis, and Alfredo. They were the sons of Mexican immigrants and often felt overlooked by others. However, they all shared a passion for mechanics. One day, two science teachers decided to enter their school in a challenging underwater robotics competition sponsored by NASA (美国宇航局). The four boys were excited and signed up right away. With passion, they started reaching out to mechanical engineers for help in designing their robot. They learned that they needed a special material often used in many underwater projects. Sadly, they didn’t have enough money to buy it, so they decided to make it on their own. They searched the city and gathered whatever they could find to build their robot. With the support and guidance of their teachers, they managed to create a working robot using just metal and wires. While they worked on their project, each boy faced personal struggles. Juan felt the pressure of family responsibilities; Oscar was afraid of failing; Luis was laughed at by classmates because of his accent; and Alfredo wished to feel accepted by others. Despite these challenges, they supported each other and stayed determined. After a few test runs of their robot, they headed to the competition. When they arrived at the main pool area, they saw college teams in matching clothes, showcasing robots funded by big companies. The boys felt a bit nervous but decided to put their robot in the water for a test run. 注意: 1.续写词数应为 150 左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Unfortunately, their robot began to leak and failed. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This time, their robot performed admirably. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Unfortunately, their robot began to leak and failed. As they watched their creation disappear under the water, they felt very disappointed. For a moment, it seemed like all their hard work was in vain. But instead of giving up, Juan encouraged the group, “We can fix this! We’ve come too far to let one setback stop us.” Motivated by their shared passion, they quickly came up with ideas. They remembered an old fishing net that Luis’s uncle used, which could help make their design stronger. With limited time, the boys hurried to make the needed changes, determined to try again. This time, their robot performed very well. It glided through the water, skillfully avoiding obstacles, and cheers erupted from the crowd. The boys shared proud looks, and their earlier worries disappeared. They felt relieved as they remembered why they started this journey together. At the end of the competition, they received an unexpected award for “Most Creative Design,” showing their cleverness despite the challenges. In that moment, they realized that their true success was not just in winning a prize, but in their strong friendship and ability to overcome difficulties. This experience sparked a passion in each of them, inspiring dreams of future innovations in engineering and technology. 词汇激活 行为类: ①鼓励:encourage/motivate/inspire ②提出:come up with/put forward ③消失:disappear/vanish/fade away 情绪类 ①担忧:worry/anxiety ②意料之外的:unexpected/unanticipated 【点睛】【高分句型1】They remembered an old fishing net that Luis’s uncle used, which could help make their design stronger.(运用了that引导的限定性定义从句,which引导的非限定性定语从句) 【高分句型2】In that moment, they realized that their true success was not just in winning a prize, but in their strong friendship and ability to overcome difficulties.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) Passage 2 (24-25高二上·河南郑州·期中) Chris used to stay anxious and stressed all the time. He was troubled by the fact that he had to bear all the expenses of the house and responsibility of the whole family and that relatives kept visiting his place. Thinking about all these things, he used to scold (训斥) his children and quarrel with his wife on one or other issue. Gradually, the atmosphere at home was very tense. One day when he was angry with himself for the mistake he made at work, his son Dan came to him and said, “Father, please help me with my homework.” Chris scolded his son and asked him to walk away. But later when he calmed down, he went to his son’s room and saw that his son was asleep, holding a copy of his homework in his hands. Chris took the copy and looked at it quickly. He was about to put it back when he read the title of the homework. It was—Things That We Don’t Like at First but Later Realize That They Are Good. The child had to write a paragraph on this title. Out of curiosity, Chris started reading what his kid had written: I am thankful for my final exams because they upset me in the beginning but after that there are school holidays. I am thankful for medicines that taste bad because they taste bitter at first but they cure my illness. I am thankful for my alarm clock that annoys me but wakes me up every morning and tells me that I am alive. I am also very thankful that I have such a good father because his scolding makes me feel very bad at first but to some extent helps me make some progress in my learning. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 After reading his son’s homework, Chris was lost in thought. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Realizing all these, he suddenly became relaxed. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 After reading his son’s homework, Chris was lost in thought. He realized that his son had a deeper understanding of life than he had expected. The boy saw the good in things that seemed unpleasant at first, and even found value in his father’s scolding. Chris felt a wave of guilt wash over him. He had been so focused on his own stress and anxieties that he had neglected to see the positive impact his tough love was having on his son. He understood now that his scolding, though harsh, was a way of pushing his son to become better. Realizing all these, he suddenly became relaxed. The tension in his shoulders eased, and a smile spread across his face. He decided to change his approach to parenting. Instead of scolding and quarreling, he would try to communicate more effectively with his family, sharing his feelings and concerns instead of bottling them up. He would also make an effort to appreciate the good in every situation, just as his son had done. Chris knew that it wouldn’t be easy, but he was ready to make the effort for the sake of his family’s happiness and harmony. From that day on, Chris made a conscious effort to be a more understanding and supportive father, and the atmosphere at home gradually became warmer and more loving. 词汇激活 行为类 ①意识到:realize/be aware of ②集中精力于:focus on/concentrate on ③决定做某事:decide to do sth/ determine to do sth 情绪类 ①激励:push/inspire ②欣赏:appreciate/admire 【点睛】[高分句型1] He understood now that his scolding, though harsh, was a way of pushing his son to become better.(运用了 that引导的宾语从句) [高分句型2] Chris knew that it wouldn’t be easy, but he was ready to make the effort for the sake of his family’s happiness and harmony.(运用了that引导宾语从句) Passage 3 (24-25高二上·河南商丘·期中) As a new business owner, I was asked to speak on a small-business discussion for the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce. Not one ounce of me wanted to do it. I was absolutely frightened. But I thought it could be a great chance for my growing business. I was told it would be a group of four speakers. I’d be the third to speak. I would do a two-or three- minute speech. I’d be up there with all the other speakers. And it would be “no big deal”. From the moment I agreed to do the speech, I started writing my speech. I would read my speech to my son. He must have heard me repeat that speech a hundred times. I would write and rewrite. I’d wake up in the middle of the night with a great line to add. The day of the speech, I walked into the event hall. I never noticed how large that room truly was. It felt like a football field. I asked Bill Vadino, the Executive Director, “How many people are coming today?” Without thinking, he said, “Over one hundred people are coming today. They are all so excited for the small-business discussion.” He said it as if that would ease my mind. It did not. I regretted I had asked. Just then, I got a text. It was from my son. He said, “Good luck today, Mom.” A little smile came over my face. Then, I heard, “Can everyone please take their seats?” As I sat there looking out over the crowd, I heard Bill begin to introduce key audience members. He said, “I’d like to thank the mayor of Kirkland for joining us today. I’d like to welcome the president of the Seattle Seahawks and the president of Puget Sound Energy.” “What now? Who? The mayor? The president of the Seattle Seahawks? What is happening here? These very important people are going to listen to me? Me? A thirty-six-year-old, single mom with a new small business? What could I possibly have to say that they want to hear?” Next thing I knew, it was my time to speak. As I walked to the podium, my heart raced and my palms were sweaty. I took a deep breath, looked out at the audience, and tried to find the familiar face of my son in the sea of people to calm my nerves. Remembering his text, I felt a wave of courage wash over me. I started my speech tentatively, my voice shaky, but as I continued, I found my rhythm. I spoke about my journey as a new business owner, the challenges I’d faced, and the lessons I’d learned. With each word, my confidence grew, and I noticed nods of understanding and smiles of encouragement in the audience. By the time I concluded, my fear had transformed into empowerment and achievement. As the event ended, a woman walked up to me with her eyes full of admiration. She introduced herself as a fellow small-business owner and thanked me for sharing my experiences so openly and honestly. She said my speech resonated with her own struggles and inspired her to push through her challenges. Her words filled me with pride and validation, knowing I had connected with someone on such a meaningful level. As I left the event, I felt a newfound sense of confidence and excitement about the future of my business, grateful that I had taken the leap to share my story. 词汇激活 行为类 ①深呼吸:take a deep breath/breathe in deeply ②转变成:transform into/turn into ③鼓励:inspire/encourage 情绪类 ①兴奋:excitement/thrill ②感激的:grateful/thankful 【点睛】【高分句型1】As I walked to the podium, my heart raced and my palms were sweaty. 注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Barbara smiled warmly, her eyes shining with kindness. The experience taught Harper the power of community and the importance of paying kindness forward. 词汇激活 行为类 帮助:help/assist 解释:explain/account for 充满:be filled with/be full of 成功做某事:manage to do sth/be succeeded in doing sth 情绪类 感谢:thank/appreciate 同情:compassion/sympathy 【点睛】[高分句型1] Barbara explained that she had arranged for Harper to stay in her shelter as long as she needed after selling her house.(运用了that引导宾语从句,as long as引导条件状语从句) [高分句型2] The community there provided emotional and financial support, helping Harper to go through the challenges she faced.(运用了现在分词作状语,省略了关系代词的定语从句) / 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 专题09 写作 读后续写 主题01 亲情 Passage 1 (24-25高二上·河南中牟·期中) Tomorrow was the Qiqiao Festival. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 2 (24-25高二上·河南濮阳·期中) School is one of the most memorable experiences of our life. It’s a moment when we meet new families called “classmates”. All the children were very excited and were practicing for the big race. Jim, one of the fast runners of the school was confident that he would win so he was not doing anything at all. “You have to work hard to come first in the race, Jim. You are not practicing at all,” said Jim’s mother. “Mom, you know how fast I am! Then why should I waste my time running? Only I will win; no one else will win!” shouted Jim. “Jim, you may be right but talent without hard work is not good at all. This laziness of yours will cost you greatly,” his mother warned him. Jim just laughed and shrugged (耸肩) his shoulders. He was so confident that would win the prize as no one else in his class was as fast as he was! Tim, a classmate of Jim was also participating in the running race. He was not a fast runner. However, he was very devoted and practiced till late night and had developed great endurance (耐力) and willpower (意志) to win the race. “I think what you need is a good laugh.” ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 4 (24-25高二上·河南南阳一中·期中) After graduating from high school, I opened a small barbershop (理发店) in the community where I lived. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 主题04 善良 Passage 1 (24-25高二上·河南周口恒大·期中) I was a volunteer for an organisation at the beginning of this year. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 3 (24-25高二上·河南信高贤岭校区·期中) “No, little girl. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 Despite the chaos and danger, he managed to climb out of the broken car. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When Branson explained the situation, they immediately sprang into action. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 主题02 友情 Passage 1 Maureen Stanko always thought her son, Nick, had so much to give — he needed to be given much care and attention. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Hesitantly and worriedly, Stanko took Nick to the cafe to work. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 2 (24-25高二上·河南商师联盟·期中) In a quiet neighborhood where the wind whispered through the trees and the sound of distant cars was a rare interruption, the Wilson family enjoyed their peaceful home. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 主题03 成长 Passage 1 (24-25高二上·河南郑州一中·期中) In Arizona, there was a high school where many students were poor. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 2 (24-25高二上·河南郑州·期中) Chris used to stay anxious and stressed all the time. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 3 (24-25高二上·河南商丘·期中) As a new business owner, I was asked to speak on a small-business discussion for the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce. As Bill introduced me, I grabbed my notes and headed for the stand. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150 左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 At this point, I was blinded by nerves. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As the event ended, a woman walked up to me with her eyes full of admiration. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 主题04 善良 Passage 1 (24-25高二上·河南信高贤岭校区·期中) “No, little girl. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Finally, Jeffrey saw a tiny figure sitting on the bench at the spot. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A few minutes later, the police and another car approached. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 2 (24-25高二上·河南开封·期中) Poor single mom Harper felt bad. 注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Barbara smiled warmly, her eyes shining with kindness. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Moved to tears, Harper could barely speak. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ / 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
