I’ve been working as a professional clown (小丑) for nearly two years. Before that, I was an actor for nine years. I was never famous, but I was quite successful! I changed jobs because I wanted to do more in life than make people laugh. What if I could help people, too?As a clown, I try to encourage sick children in hospital to laugh and smile. When you laugh, your mind and body relax. Clearly, people who laugh more don’t have as many colds or other problems! Children who laugh a lot often get better results in their studies, too. It isn’t an easy job. Not all sick children get better, and sometimes I come home and cry. But I always go back to work the next day with my red nose on. I don’t earn much money as a clown, but I feel very lucky to work with such brave, wonderful patients.
I became a laughter yoga (瑜伽) teacher more than two years ago. Before that I was a dentist! My job was very difficult and I used to feel fed up. Now I still improve people’s health, but everything else is completely different. Everyone has fun in a laughter yoga class, including the teacher!
No, laughter isn’t “magic”. It doesn’t prevent all illnesses, keep you young, or make you beautiful. But did you know that it’s an excellent kind of exercise? You move your whole body when you laugh!
Sometimes I work with famous people. It’s true that being rich can be stressful! Some famous people can be unpleasant at times, but I try to change their bad feelings. Laughter is excellent for people like musicians, artists and writers, because it helps people to be more creative.

A. they are always rich B. they have stress sometimes
C. they like funny people D. they are good at doing yoga
16. The underlined part “fed up” is closest in meaning to ________.
A. interested B. satisfied C. disappointed D. bored
17. It can be learned from the passage that both writers think of their jobs as ________.
A. happy moments to learn from other people B. great chances to make themselves well known

A comfort zone is a place, situation or level where there is the least stress. However, stepping into the learning zone can help to bring out the best in us. Here are the reasons.
●Challenging yourself can help you be at your best
Stepping outside one’s comfort zone is important for personal development. How can we expect to make ourselves better if we only stick to the routine? We should try something we might not succeed in.
●Taking risks is what helps us grow
As children, we’re natural risk-takers. But as we get older and learn to fear failure, we start trying fewer new things. We pay a heavy price for our fear of failure. There is no learning without any difficulties.
●Facing new challenges can help us grow better
Our comfort zone seems to become smaller as we get older --but if we can keep expanding (扩大) it, we’ll open ourselves up to a greater world as we grow. As we step into the learning zone, we will get more comfortable with the skills gradually and we’ll start to move into the comfort zone. A study found that learning new life skills can help our brain stay sharp as we get older.
However, don’t push yourself too far. Have you heard of “Yerkes-Dodson Law”? It means performance increases as stress grows, but only up to a point. If the level of stress becomes too high, performance will go down. When stress becomes too great for us to deal with, we enter the danger zone.
18. Compared with the comfort zone, people in the learning zone may ________.
A. feel less stressed B. face more challenges
C. make fewer efforts D. refuse more changes
19. According to Paragraph 3 , we will learn more if we _________.
A. spend money B. fear failure
C. take risks D. feel natural
20. “Yerkes-Dodson Law” can be described by graph________
A. B. C. D.
21. You will develop the skills step by step when you are in the ________.
A. comfort zone B. learning zone
C. danger zone D. challenge Zone
22. What’s the best title for this text?
A. A comfort zone makes us safe B. What is a comfort zone?
C. Step outside a comfort zone D. Never fear a comfort zone
D
Do you know National Chopsticks Day? For about one quarter of the world’s population, chopsticks are their eating tools for every meal. Just as Western children learn to use a knife and fork, many Asian children learn to use chopsticks, and they quickly become good at using them. To many Asian people, forks are an odd tool.
Chopsticks can be made of wood, bamboo, plastic, bone, fine china or metal. In China they are called kuaizi, which means “quick little bamboo fellows”.
Chopsticks have been in use for over 5,000 years. However, forks were not used in England until 1611. Chopsticks originated (起源于) in China, and are used in many Asian cultures. How their use was introduced to other countries is not known.
Take part in National Chopsticks Day, and use chopsticks for all of your meals. You can eat any food with chopsticks on the day. To make the day really special, use chopsticks to eat a homemade Chinese dish. Have fun with chopsticks on the day. Make a game out of picking up peanuts or jelly beans (软心豆粒糖) with them.
Chopsticks manners:
Improper use of chopsticks is in poor taste, and can even be impolite or insulting (侮辱的).
Don’t stick chopsticks upright into your food. It’s an insult.
Don’t point at people with them.
Don’t suck or chew on the ends of your chopsticks.
23. What does the underlined word “odd” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Strange. B. Usual. C. Expensive. D. Cheap.

Before that, I was a dentist!

It will take you about three minutes to get to the chicken farm from the station. Don’t make any turns. Keep going and you’ll see a bridge.
