A new study shows many people work through their lunch hour. This is unhealthy. People get sick and take time off work. The study is from a health group in the UK. Researchers interviewed 2,000 people about what they do at lunch. Twenty percent said they took no lunch break. They worked through their lunch hour. Half of the people said they ate their lunch at their desks. They went online, answered emails or went on Facebook. Only one in five left their workplace to go outside for a break. Just three percent of workers went to the gym.
The health group told companies that all staff should take a regular lunch break. Workers need more exercise at work so they do not get ill. A spokeswoman said, “Full-time workers spend a lot of their time at work. They need time to do at least 30 minutes of exercise, five times a week. But that can be a challenge for the companies.” She said that the staff got sick because they did not take breaks, so companies lost money. She said we needed to find answers to the problem. We should care for our own health.

“Americans are not as fit as they think they are,” says Dr. Moginnis of the US Department of Health and Human Services. That should come as a surprise, because in the US, fitness is something you cannot get away from. You'll see special stores full of books and cassettes telling you how to keep fit. You'll meet joggers in the park, and find at least one health club in every town.
But the figures (数字) don't look so good. More than 30 percent of Americans smoke, and 80 to 90 percent still don't get enough exercise. The situation is worse among children, who spend too much time watching TV, and too little time running around. The American diet is less than perfect. Quick, ready-made food usually contains too much fat, salt and sugar. And as usual, it's the poorest families who eat the worst food. Eating well means spending what they don't have—more time and more money. Americans know that they have fitness problems. Many people feel they are too fat, even if their doctors don't agree. And 80 percent of people say they try to improve their fitness, even if they soon give up.
6. The main idea of the passage is ______
A. food and diet Americans have
B. health and fitness of the Americans
C. how to lose weight for the Americans
D. exercise is important to health
7. According to the writer, ______
A. Americans always think they are in pretty good health, but things are not like what they expect
B. American children would rather have more exercise than watch TV
C. most Americans have enough exercise but some don't
D. most Americans know the importance of exercise but they don't have time to do that or don't know how to keep fit
8. From the passage we learn that ______
A. although some people never think about health problems, the others do think about them and try to improve them
B. most Americans want to keep fit and keep on doing exercise
C. “keep fit” is a very common thing in America, and everyone knows its importance and enjoys doing it
D. many people want to lose weight and take part in all kinds of activities in health clubs and few people smoke
9. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. American food is much more perfect.
B. Eating well doesn't need more time or money.
C. The poorer a family is, the worse food they eat.
D. Eating ready-made food can often keep people healthy.
10. Generally speaking, the situation of Americans' health is ______
A. good
B. very bad
C. not too good
D. terrible

根据第一段中“A new study shows many people work through their lunch hour. This is unhealthy. People get sick and take time off work.(一项新的研究表明,许多人在午餐时间工作。
根据第一段中“Researchers interviewed 2,000 people about what they do at lunch. Twenty percent said they took no lunch break. They worked through their lunch hour. Half of the people said they ate their lunch at their desks.( 研究人员采访了2000人,询问他们午餐做什么。
根据第一段中“Researchers interviewed 2,000 people about what they do at lunch. Twenty percent said they took no lunch break. They worked through their lunch hour. Half of the people said they ate their lunch at their desks. They went online, answered emails or went on Facebook. Only one in five left their workplace to go outside for a break. Just three percent of workers went to the gym.(研究人员采访了2000人,询问他们午餐做什么。
根据第二段中“She said that the staff got sick because they did not take breaks, so companies lost money.(她说,员工生病是因为他们没有休息,所以公司损失了钱。)”
根据第一段中“Twenty percent said they took no lunch break. ... Only one in five left their workplace to go outside for a break. Just three percent of workers went to the gym.(20%的人说他们没有午休时间。…… (They need time to do at least 30 minutes of exercise, five times a week.)

B 选项与文中 “children...spend too much time watching TV” 不符;C 选项与 “80 to 90 percent still don't get enough exercise” 不符;D 选项中 “don't have time or don't know how” 并非文中主要原因。故选 A。
