教学过程
A. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Show students some pictures on the screen. The pictures can include scenes of a person returning a lost wallet, a student admitting to breaking a window, etc.
Ask students to look at the pictures and think about what the common theme is. Then, invite several students to share their thoughts.
T: "Look at these pictures carefully. What do you think these people are doing? What quality do they show?"
S1: "They are doing good things. I think they are honest."
T: "Very good. Today we are going to continue our exploration of the theme of honesty in our project."
B. Pre - project Introduction (8 minutes)
Divide students into groups of 4 - 5.
Introduce the two main tasks of the project:
Task 1: Create a storybook about honesty
Explain that each group needs to create a storybook. The storybook should have at least 3 - 4 pages. Each page should have a short story related to honesty, along with some simple pictures to illustrate the story.
Provide some examples of story ideas, such as "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", "George Washington and the Cherry Tree", or students can come up with their own original stories.
Task 2: Conduct a survey about honesty
Tell students that they need to design a survey about honest behaviors. For example, they can ask questions like "Do you always tell your parents the truth about your school grades?", "Have you ever seen someone cheating in a game?"
Explain how to conduct the survey. They can survey other classmates in the school. Each group should try to collect at least 20 valid survey results.
Then, they need to analyze the results and write a short report about what they have found.
C. Group Work - Designing the Survey (12 minutes)
In their groups, students start to design the survey questions.
Walk around the classroom, offer guidance and answer students' questions.
T: "When designing the questions, make sure they are clear and easy to answer. Also, try to cover different aspects of honest behaviors."
Group 1: "Teacher, can we ask questions about online honesty?"
T: "Sure, that's a great idea. You can include questions like 'Do you always tell the truth in online games?' or 'Have you ever shared false information on social media?'"
D. Group Work - Creating the Storybook (10 minutes)
While some students are still working on the survey design, other groups can start to plan and create their storybook.
Provide some drawing tools and colored paper for students to use.
Encourage students to be creative in both the story - writing and the illustration.
T: "Your storybook should be attractive. Use your imagination to make the stories interesting and the pictures vivid."
Group 2: "Teacher, we want to make a story about a girl who finds a wallet on the street. Is it okay?"
T: "That's a wonderful idea. You can describe what she did next, whether she tried to find the owner or not."
E. Presentation and Discussion (5 minutes)
Select one or two groups to briefly present their initial ideas for the survey and the storybook.
Other groups can ask questions and give suggestions.
Group 3 (presenting): "For our survey, we designed 5 questions, mainly about honesty in school and at home. For the storybook, we plan to tell a story about a boy who didn't cheat in an important exam."
Group 4: "Good job. But for the survey, maybe you can add one more question about honesty among friends."
F. Conclusion and Homework (5 minutes)
Summarize what students have done in this class, emphasizing the importance of both tasks in understanding the theme of honesty.
Assign homework:
Each group needs to complete the survey design and start conducting the survey after class.
They should also continue to work on the storybook at home, making sure to have at least one complete story with pictures by the next class.
T: "Today we started our project on honesty. Remember, honesty is not only important in our English learning but also in our daily lives. Finish your homework carefully and we will share more in the next class."
教学反思
Positive Aspects
The warm - up activity using pictures effectively engaged students and quickly led them into the theme of the class. It aroused students' interest and made them actively participate in the discussion.
Group work provided students with opportunities to cooperate and communicate. They could exchange ideas, share their creativity, and learn from each other. For example, when designing the survey questions, students in each group brainstormed together, which broadened their thinking.
The presentation and discussion part promoted students' critical thinking. They could listen to others' ideas, ask questions, and give suggestions, which improved their communication and evaluation abilities.
Areas for Improvement
Some students may not have fully understood the requirements of the project at the beginning. Next time, more detailed explanations and examples can be provided. For instance, when introducing the storybook task, more sample storybooks can be shown to help students better understand the format and content requirements.
In group work, there were a few students who were less active. In the future, a more specific division of labor within the group can be guided to ensure that every student has a clear task and participates actively.
The time management for group work could be improved. Some groups did not have enough time to fully complete their initial plans. A more accurate time - limit for each part of the group work can be set to ensure the smooth progress of the teaching process.
