教学过程
1 Warming - up (5 minutes)
Show some pictures of children playing traditional Chinese games, such as hoop rolling, string figure, and Chinese checkers. Ask students: "Do you know these games? Have you ever played them?" Encourage students to share their experiences of playing these games briefly.
2 Pre - project (10 minutes)
Vocabulary Introduction
Teach the new words and phrases on the PPT. Use pictures and short videos to help students understand their meanings. For example, play a short video of a child playing hoop rolling while teaching the phrase "hoop rolling". Let students repeat the words and phrases several times to ensure correct pronunciation.
Conduct a quick word - guessing game. Describe a game or an expression in English, and let students guess what it is. For example, say "You use your fingers to make different shapes with a string. What is it?" to let students guess "string figure".
Brainstorming
Divide students into groups of four. Ask them to brainstorm new things they want to try, which can be new games, new hobbies, or new ways of traveling, etc. Give each group a piece of paper to write down their ideas.
After 3 minutes, ask each group to share their ideas with the whole class. Write down the common and interesting ideas on the blackboard.
3 While - project (20 minutes)
Reading Activity
Provide students with a short passage about a new type of train journey, like a luxury train tour. Ask students to read the passage silently for the first time to get a general idea. Then, read it again and answer some questions on the PPT, such as "What are the special features of this train?" "How do passengers feel on this train?"
Let students work in pairs to discuss their answers. After that, invite some pairs to share their answers with the class.
Writing Activity
Guide students to write a short passage about a new thing they want to try. First, show them an example passage on the PPT:
"I want to try learning to play the guitar. I have always been interested in music, and the guitar sounds really cool. I think it will be a great way to express my feelings. I plan to find a guitar teacher and start learning next month. I hope I can play some simple songs after a few months of practice."
Ask students to write their own passages according to their brainstorming ideas. Walk around the classroom to offer help and guidance when necessary.
4 Post - project (10 minutes)
Presentation
Select several students to come to the front of the class and read their passages aloud. After each presentation, ask other students to give some comments, such as "I like your idea of trying rock climbing. It sounds exciting." or "You can add more details about why you want to try this new thing."
Summary
Summarize the key points of this class, including new vocabulary, sentence patterns, and the importance of trying new things. Encourage students to keep an open mind and be brave enough to try new things in their daily lives.
Assign homework: Ask students to make a poster about a new thing they want to try. They can draw pictures and write some descriptions in English on the poster.
教学反思
In this class, the use of pictures and videos in the warming - up and vocabulary - teaching stages effectively attracted students' attention and helped them better understand new words. However, in the brainstorming part, some students had difficulty coming up with unique ideas. In the future, more guiding questions can be provided to stimulate their creativity.
During the reading and writing activities, most students were able to complete the tasks, but there was still a gap in the writing level among students. For students with weaker writing skills, more individual guidance and simpler writing templates can be given.
The presentation and comment part at the end of the class actively involved students in interaction. But the time for each student's comment was a bit short. Next time, it can be better arranged to ensure more in - depth communication. Overall, through this project - based class, students had a better understanding of trying new things and improved their English language skills to a certain extent.
