Unit 2 Rules around us-E A flyer of signs and rules for public places (Project)
This project in Unit 2 focuses on the theme of "Rules around us". Students are required to create a flyer about signs and rules in public places. Through this project, students will integrate what they have learned in this unit, including vocabulary related to public places and rules, sentence patterns for expressing rules, and the ability to understand and interpret common signs. They will use their creativity and language skills to design an attractive and informative flyer, which not only helps them review and consolidate knowledge but also promotes their practical application of English in real - life - like situations.
教学目标
Students will be able to master the key vocabulary related to public places such as "library", "park", "cinema", "zoo", etc., and the corresponding rules like "keep quiet", "no littering", "no smoking", etc.
Students are expected to fully understand and correctly use sentence patterns for expressing rules, for example, "We should/shouldn't...", "Don't...", "You must/mustn't...".
Students will learn how to describe the meaning and function of common public signs in English, such as the "No Parking" sign, the "Exit" sign, etc.

教学过程
A. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Greet the students and show some pictures of different public places on the PPT, such as a library, a park, and a cinema. Ask students: "Boys and girls, look at these pictures. Do you know where they are?" Encourage students to answer actively.
Then, show some pictures of common signs in these public places, like the "Keep Quiet" sign in the library and the "No Littering" sign in the park. Ask students: "What do these signs mean? Do you know the rules in these public places?" Start a simple discussion to arouse students' interest in the topic of today's class.
B. Knowledge Review (8 minutes)
Vocabulary Review
Divide the students into small groups. Each group is given a set of flashcards with words of public places and rules written on them. The group members take turns to pick a flashcard and read the word aloud, and then the other members in the group need to give an example sentence using this word. For example, if a student picks the word "library", another student can say "We should keep quiet in the library."
After the group activity, invite some groups to come to the front of the class and show their flashcards and example sentences to the whole class.
Sentence Pattern Review
Write some sentence patterns for expressing rules on the blackboard, such as "We should...", "We shouldn't...", "Don't...", "You must...", "You mustn't...".
Give some situations in public places orally, like "You are in a cinema." and ask students to make sentences using the given sentence patterns. For example, students can answer "We should turn off our mobile phones." or "Don't talk loudly."
C. Project Introduction (5 minutes)
Present the project task clearly to the students: "Today, we are going to work on a project. You need to create a flyer about signs and rules in public places. Your flyer should include at least three different public places, their corresponding signs, and rules. You can work in groups of four."
Show some sample flyers on the PPT. Analyze the layout, content, and design elements of these sample flyers with the students. Point out the advantages of each sample, such as clear division of areas, vivid pictures, and concise text. Encourage students to learn from these samples when they design their own flyers.
D. Group Work (20 minutes)
Grouping
Let the students form groups of four by themselves. After they form groups, ask each group to choose a group leader. The group leader is responsible for organizing the group discussion, dividing tasks, and reporting the group's work progress.
Task Division
Guide each group to divide the tasks. For example, some group members can be responsible for collecting information about signs and rules in different public places, some can design the layout of the flyer, and some can write the text.
Provide each group with some materials, such as colored paper, markers, magazines with pictures of public places, and the Internet access (if available in the classroom) for them to collect information.
Group Discussion and Creation
Walk around the classroom, monitor the group work, and offer help and guidance when necessary. For example, if a group has difficulty in finding appropriate English expressions for some rules, give them some hints; if there are conflicts among group members, help them resolve the problems and encourage them to respect each other's opinions.
E. Presentation and Evaluation (5 minutes)
Group Presentation
Invite each group to come to the front of the class and present their flyers. Each group's presenter should introduce the public places, signs, and rules on their flyers in English. They can also explain why they designed the flyer in this way and what they want to convey through their work.
Evaluation
After each group's presentation, organize the whole class to evaluate the flyer. Design an evaluation form with items such as content accuracy, layout design, creativity, and English expression. Each student in the class can give a score for each item, and then calculate the average score for each group.
In addition to the quantitative evaluation, also encourage students to give qualitative comments. For example, they can praise the good points of a group's work and also give some suggestions for improvement.
F. Summary and Homework (2 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of today's class, including the knowledge about signs and rules in public places, the process of creating a flyer, and the importance of cooperation in group work.
Emphasize the significance of observing rules in our daily lives and using English to communicate about these rules.
Homework
Ask students to take their flyers home and share them with their parents, introducing the signs and rules in English.
Suggest students to improve their flyers according to the comments and suggestions they received in class, and then hand in the final version of the flyers next class.
教学反思
After the class, I found that most students were actively involved in the group work. They showed great enthusiasm in collecting information, designing the layout, and writing the text for the flyers. However, some students still had difficulties in using English to express complex ideas, especially when they wanted to explain the reasons behind some rules. In future teaching, more practice in English writing and speaking about practical topics should be provided to improve students' language proficiency.
The group work was generally effective, but there were also some problems. In some groups, the division of tasks was not very reasonable, which led to some students being over - burdened while others were relatively idle. Next time, I will guide the groups more carefully in task division to ensure that every student can contribute to the group work and gain something from it.
The evaluation part was quite successful. The combination of quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods made the evaluation more comprehensive. Students could not only get a clear score for their work but also receive valuable suggestions for improvement. However, the time for evaluation was a bit tight, and some students did not have enough time to fully express their opinions. In the next class, I will allocate more time for the evaluation process to make it more in - depth.
Overall, through this project - based teaching, students not only mastered the knowledge about signs and rules in public places but also improved their practical skills such as information collection, design, and cooperation. In the future, more similar project - based teaching activities will be designed to promote students' all - round development in English learning.
