Unit 5 Animals and us-E Our school club logo (Project) This project in Unit 5 “Animals and us” focuses on designing a logo for the school club. Students will combine their understanding of animals with their creativity to create a unique logo. Through this project, students will review and apply the vocabulary related to animals learned in this unit, such as different types of animals (e.g., mammals, birds, reptiles), their characteristics, and their relationships with humans. They will also use basic graphic design knowledge and English expressions to describe and explain their logo designs. 教学目标 Students can review and master the key vocabulary about animals in this unit, including animal names (e.g., panda, eagle, snake), and relevant adjectives to describe them (e.g., cute, strong, dangerous). Students are able to understand and use some simple English expressions for graphic design, such as “a circle in the middle”, “use bright colors”, etc. 教学重难点 1. Teaching Key Points Guide students to brainstorm ideas for the logo design, combining animal elements with the characteristics and purposes of the school club. Help students master the necessary English expressions to describe the logo design, including the shape, color, and meaning of the logo. Ensure students can work effectively in groups, sharing ideas and dividing tasks reasonably. 2. Teaching Difficult Points How to inspire students' creativity to design a unique and meaningful logo that truly represents the school club. How to guide students to use accurate and vivid English to explain the profound meaning behind their logo designs. 1. Animal Vocabulary Review Mammals: panda, dog, cat, elephant, lion, tiger, etc. Birds: eagle, sparrow, pigeon, parrot, etc. Reptiles: snake, crocodile, lizard, etc. Adjectives to describe animals: cute, lovely, strong, brave, smart, dangerous, etc. 2. Graphic Design - Related English Expressions Shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, etc. Colors: red, blue, green, yellow, purple, orange, etc. Positions: in the middle, on the top, at the bottom, on the left, on the right, etc. Others: a picture of..., a symbol of..., represent..., stand for... 教学过程 1. Lead - in (5 minutes) Show some famous logos of clubs or organizations on the PPT, such as the logo of a sports club with a running figure, and the logo of an environmental protection club with a green leaf. Ask students: “What do these logos represent? What elements can you see in these logos?” Let students discuss in pairs and then share their ideas. Then, show the logo of the school’s reading club as an example. Explain: “This is the logo of our school reading club. We can see an open book and a lamp in it. The book represents reading, and the lamp means that reading lights up our minds.” This will lead students to think about the elements and meanings of logos, and arouse their interest in designing a logo for their own school club. 2. Brainstorming (10 minutes) Divide students into groups of 4 - 5. Distribute a piece of paper to each group. Let them brainstorm the possible animal elements that can be used in the school club logo. For example, if it is a sports club, animals like cheetahs (representing speed) or lions (representing strength) can be considered; if it is an art club, peacocks (representing beauty) or hummingbirds (representing grace) might be good choices. While students are brainstorming, walk around the classroom, listen to their discussions, and give some guidance if necessary. For example, if a group is having trouble coming up with ideas, you can ask: “What are the characteristics of your club? What kind of animals have similar characteristics?” After 5 minutes, ask each group to share their brainstorming results. Write the animal names they mentioned on the blackboard. 3. Vocabulary and Expression Review (10 minutes) Based on the animal names on the blackboard, review the relevant vocabulary with students. For example, for “cheetah”, ask students to describe it using adjectives. Students may answer “fast”, “agile”. Then write these adjectives next to the animal name. Next, review the graphic design - related English expressions. Use the pictures on the PPT to illustrate. Show a picture with a red circle in the middle and say: “Look at this picture. There is a red circle in the middle. Here, ‘in the middle’ tells us the position of the circle, and ‘red’ is the color.” Practice several times with different pictures, such as “There is a green triangle on the top” and “There is a yellow square at the bottom”. Then, give students some simple sentences to practice. For example: “Design a logo with a blue bird in the middle. The bird should be flying.” Let students repeat the sentence and understand how to use these expressions in logo - design instructions. 4. Logo Design (15 minutes) Now, ask students to start designing their school club logos in their groups. Provide each group with some drawing tools, such as colored pencils, rulers, and drawing paper. Remind them to use the animal elements they brainstormed and the English expressions they reviewed. While students are designing, continue to walk around the classroom. Observe their progress and offer help. For example, if a group is not sure how to draw an animal, you can give them some simple drawing tips; if they are having trouble expressing their ideas in English, help them with the correct expressions. Encourage students to be creative. They can add some other elements besides animals, such as stars, lines, or letters, as long as they can explain the meaning in English later. 5. Presentation and Evaluation (5 minutes) Ask each group to choose a representative to come to the front of the classroom and present their logo design. The representative should use English to introduce the elements in the logo, such as “In our logo, there is a big panda in the middle. The panda is black and white. We choose the panda because our club is a cultural exchange club, and the panda is a symbol of our country, representing friendliness and peace.” After each presentation, let other groups ask questions or give comments. For example: “Why did you choose this color?” or “I think your logo is very creative, but if you add one more element, it might be better.” Then, the presenting group can answer the questions and consider the suggestions. 教学反思 In this class, the use of real - life club logos in the lead - in part effectively attracted students' attention and quickly introduced the topic. However, in the future, more diverse logos could be shown to further expand students' thinking. During the brainstorming stage, most groups actively participated, but some students were a bit shy to share their ideas. In the future, more encouragement and guidance should be given to these students to make them more involved. The review of vocabulary and expressions was relatively smooth, but some students still had difficulties in using them flexibly during the logo - design and presentation process. More practice opportunities, such as role - playing design - related scenarios, should be provided in subsequent classes. The logo - design process fully demonstrated students' creativity, but there was a problem of time management. Some groups did not have enough time to perfect their designs. In future classes, more accurate time control is needed to ensure that each link can be carried out smoothly. The presentation and evaluation part enhanced students' communication and critical - thinking abilities. However, the evaluation criteria could be more specific in the future to make the evaluation more objective and helpful for students' improvement. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
