教学过程
1 Lead - in (5 minutes)
Show students some pictures of common animals like dogs, birds, and fish on the PPT. Ask them to describe these animals briefly in English, such as "Dogs are friendly and they can help people."
Then ask students: "Do you know there are many amazing animals in the world? What amazing things do you think animals can do?" Let students share their ideas in pairs and then invite some pairs to report to the class.
2 Pre - listening (10 minutes)
Divide students into groups of four. Distribute a handout to each group, which has some words and phrases related to the animals to be introduced in the listening part, such as "bee", "sting", "rat", "drive", "cat", "curious".
Let students discuss in groups and try to match the words with the pictures on the handout if there are any. Then explain the meaning of these words and phrases briefly to the whole class, using simple examples. For example, for the word "sting", show a picture of a bee stinging and say "When a bee stings, it can make you feel very painful."
Ask students to predict what they might hear in the following listening materials according to these words and phrases.
3 While - listening (15 minutes)
Play the first part of the audio which is about bees. Let students listen carefully and answer some simple questions on the PPT, such as "What do bees produce?", "What is the most dangerous part of a bee?" After listening, check the answers with the students.
Play the audio again. This time, ask students to listen and fill in the blanks in a short passage about bees on their worksheets. The passage might be like this: "Bees live in ____. They are very busy. Worker bees collect ____ from flowers. The queen bee ____ eggs. Bees' ____ can be very painful."
Then play the part of the audio about rats. Before playing, tell students to pay attention to how rats learn to drive. After listening, ask students to retell the process of rats learning to drive in their own words.
Next, play the audio about cats. Let students listen and choose the correct statements about cats from several options on the PPT, such as "Cats are very independent animals. (True/False)", "Cats are not curious about new things. (True/False)"
4 Post - listening (10 minutes)
Divide students into new groups. Each group chooses one of the animals they have just learned about. They need to make a short dialogue about this animal, using the key vocabulary and sentence patterns they have learned. For example, if a group chooses bees, their dialogue might be like this:
A: Do you know about bees?
B: Yes. Bees can produce honey.
A: And their stings are very scary.
B: Right. But they are important for our ecosystem.
Invite some groups to act out their dialogues in front of the class. After each group finishes, give them some positive feedback and suggestions.
Then ask students to write a short paragraph about an amazing animal they like best. They should include at least three sentences to describe the animal's amazing ability, appearance, or habit. Walk around the classroom to provide guidance when necessary. After students finish writing, ask several students to read their paragraphs aloud.
5 Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summarize the key points of this class with the students, including the new vocabulary, sentence patterns, and the amazing abilities of the animals they have learned.
Assign homework:
Ask students to search for more information about an amazing animal on the Internet and make a simple poster about it. They should include pictures and a short introduction in English.
Ask students to read the passages about animals in their textbooks again and try to recite some important sentences.
教学反思
In this class, the use of vivid audio materials can effectively arouse students' interest in learning. However, some students may still have difficulties in understanding complex animal - related vocabulary and sentence patterns. In the future, more time should be spent on explaining and practicing these difficult points.
Group work is a good way to encourage students to communicate in English. But during the group work, some students may dominate the discussion, while some may participate less. Teachers need to pay more attention to ensuring the equal participation of each student.
The writing part is a challenge for some students. They may make grammar mistakes or have difficulty in expressing their ideas. In the following classes, more writing guidance and exercises should be provided to improve students' writing skills.
