1. Have students read paragraph 2 and discuss the following question.
Why is Covid-19 so dangerous?
In some cases, the virus causes the body’s own immune system to overreact,resulting in the
body killing its own healthy cells. Consequently, the disease can become worse, causing
damage to the body’s organs and tissues.
2. Have students read paragraph 3 and answer the following question.
What measures can you come up with to protect yourselves from getting infected based on
the modes of transmission of the virus?
Wear face masks. In this way, respiratory droplets and particles from an infected person
can’t enter our body through our mouth, nose or eyes. Furthermore, avoid touching our faces
with hands and keep our hands clean, so that the virus on contaminated surfaces or objects
won’t access our body. Last but not least, to reduce the chance of getting infected, we should
avoid crowds and ensure that our homes are well ventilated.
3. Have students read paragraph 4 and discuss the following question.
What made Covid-19 more dangerous?

gradually began to emerge in various parts of the world, presenting an increased threat to the
health of the world’s population.
4. Have students read paragraphs 5 and 6 and answer the following questions.

I can see people’s sense of responsibility and respect for life. I can also see their courage,
devotion, determination, generosity and kindness. For example,doctors and nurses worked
round the clock and went wherever they were needed, risking their own lives to treat and
care for patients. From this we can see their respect for life and their courage. Furthermore,
ordinary people also shouldered their responsibilities in the fight. They united in helping
people in need with kindness and generosity.

The morning sun crept through the window, casting a warm light across my bed as I buried
myself deeper into the covers. It was supposed to be the start of a perfect weekend, full of
plans with friends and fun. However, as I lay there, my whole body ached and my throat was
really sore. Suddenly, I recognized the signs: the seasonal flu had attacked me in the night,
ruining my plans and turning my world upside down. With each passing moment, its icy
grasp tightened around my body and stole my energy. In the face of this all too familiar
enemy, I knew that I was in for a long and challenging battle.
