Help students master the key vocabulary and expressions related to inventions through listening practice.

教学过程
1. Warming-up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual. Then show some pictures of well - known inventions on the PPT, such as the light bulb, the telephone, and the computer. Ask students to name these inventions in English and briefly talk about what they know about them. For example, “Who can tell me something about the light bulb? When was it invented? By whom?”
This activity aims to activate students' prior knowledge about inventions and arouse their interest in the topic of this class.
2. Pre - listening (10 minutes)
Present some new words and phrases related to inventions on the PPT, such as “keep... off” (使…… 不接近), “at the same time” (同时), “dust” (n. 灰尘). Teach students the pronunciation, meaning, and usage of these words and phrases through examples. For example, “Please keep your feet off the sofa. It's not polite.” “We arrived at school at the same time.” “The mirror is covered with dust.”
Then, show some pictures of some funny or special inventions that students may not be very familiar with, such as a cleaner cat brush, an umbrella for shoes. Ask students to work in pairs and discuss what these inventions might be used for. Each pair selects a representative to share their ideas with the class.
This part helps students build a vocabulary base for listening and makes predictions about the listening content, thus reducing the difficulty of listening.
3. While - listening (20 minutes)
First listening:
Tell students that they are going to listen to advertisements for four inventions. Play the recording for the first time. Students are required to just listen carefully and get a general idea of what the inventions are.
After listening, ask some simple questions to check students' understanding, such as “What are the four inventions mentioned in the recording?”
Second listening:
Play the recording again. This time, students need to complete the names of the inventions. Write one word in each blank as required. For example, “_______ Fr Shes”, “Cleaner Cat ”, “ Telephne”, “_______ Glasses”.
After they finish filling in the blanks, play the recording once more to let students check their answers.
Third listening:
Play the recording for the third time. Students listen carefully and circle the correct answers to the multiple - choice questions. The questions are designed to test students' understanding of the details of the inventions, such as “The first invention can _______. A. make your shoes more beautiful B. keep the dust off your shoes C. keep the rain off your feet”
Check the answers with the whole class and ask students to explain why they choose a certain option.
4. Post - listening (10 minutes)
Divide students into groups of four. Each group chooses one of the inventions they have heard about. They need to discuss and summarize the functions, features, and advantages of this invention. Then, each group makes a short presentation in front of the class.
After the presentations, organize a class discussion. Ask students “Which of these inventions do you think is the most useful? Why?” Encourage students to express their own opinions and support their views with reasons.
教学反思
In this listening class, the overall teaching process was relatively smooth. The warming - up activity successfully attracted students' attention and activated their prior knowledge. The pre - listening vocabulary teaching and prediction activities effectively prepared students for the listening tasks. During the while - listening process, most students were able to catch the key information through multiple listenings. However, there are still some areas that need improvement.
Some students had difficulty understanding the context and inferring the meaning of new words in the listening materials. In the future, more training in this aspect should be strengthened, such as teaching students some skills of guessing the meaning of words from the context. Also, during the post - listening discussion, some students were a bit shy to express their opinions. More encouragement and guidance should be given to these students to make them more actively participate in classroom communication. In general, through this class, students have improved their listening skills and knowledge about inventions, but continuous improvement in teaching methods is still needed to better meet the learning needs of all students.
