Can you believe Chengdu is short of water? In March 2022, the government said the city will face a serious water shortage (短缺) in 2030. Some other cities in southern China, like Shenzhen and Guangzhou, are also becoming “thirsty”. ___46___ So why are they still short of water?
As we know, populations are growing fast in these cities. ___47___ Each person in Chengdu has less than 600 m3 of water each year. It’s 1/4 of the country’s average (平均). The situation in Shenzhen is worse. It’s 1/12 of the country’s average. According to the UN, it is a “real water shortage” when it’s below 500 m3.
___48___ Chengdu depends on the Minjiang River as its main source (来源) of water. These years, there isn’t enough rain running into the river. The change also causes less snow in the mountains. They might provide less water in the future.
There are other reasons for water shortages. For example, water pollution makes it harder to get clean drinking water. ___49___ Some cities have enough rainfall, but don’t have big lakes or reservoirs (水库) to store water. The water just goes into the sea.
March 22 is World Water Day. This year, the key point is “groundwater”. We can’t see groundwater. It’s under our feet. ___50___ About 98 percent of Earth’s fresh water is groundwater. But in many places, people pollute groundwater.

As we know, energy (能源) is one of the serious problems in the world now, it plays an important role in our life. People used gasoline (汽油) cars for many years before electric (电) ones. With more and more electric cars coming out, it offers a good choice to lower the pressure of energy. Car companies (车企) are now making cars that are fully controlled by electricity. Can these electric cars work as well as the traditional gasoline cars?
Electric and gasoline cars look the same on the outside but they still have very different parts inside. Electric cars have one main moving part: the motor. But gas cars have hundreds of other parts, often needing maintenance (保养) . Having fewer parts makes the electric cars cheaper to keep and seem to have fewer mechanical (机械的) problems.
Electric cars are energy-saving, also making them cheaper to run. It costs about $1.00 to go 43 miles in an electric car, which costs about $4.1 to go the same miles in a gas car. Actually, an electric car can go twice (倍) or more as far as a gas car for the same price.
Electric cars have less pollution, making them more friendly to the environment. An electric car has to stop more often to get charged (充电). So, you would choose a gas car if you have far to drive. There are lots of gas stations, but not many charging stations for electric cars. And as soon as an electric car reaches a charging station, it may take a long time to charge.
There are certainly good points to both electric cars and gasoline cars. It’s good to know which is more important to you.
Facts
With the appearance of electric cars, people wonder if electric cars can work as well as the traditional gasoline cars.
The ideas of ___51___electric cars with gasoline cars.
Similarities
Electric cars and gasoline cars look the same on the outside.
___52___ electric cars 2 gasoline ones have motors.
Differences
Electric cars

●They are more energy-saving making them cheaper to run.
Gasoline cars
●Gas cars can cover a longer distance (行程更远).
●Gas cars are ___54___ to get gasoline than electric cars to get charged.
Conclusion
Both electric cars and gasoline cars have their own good points. Choosing electric cars or gasoline cars mainly ___55___ how far people plan to drive.

The drone is one of them. We can use it to send food water, medicine, and other important things when a natural disaster happens. Very often the buildings are too dangerous for rescue teams to get in, but they can make the drone fly into the buildings to look for those who are still alive first.
Social media (社交媒体) is also useful when it comes to natural disasters. With its help, people can know about natural disasters earlier. Some social media allow people to mark (标记) themselves as out of danger after disasters, so others can know their situations. Social media is also a place for the latest news, so people can learn what is going on in disaster areas. Also, many social media allow people to give money to people in disaster areas. As we know, energy (能源) is one of the serious problems in the world now, it plays an important role in our life. People used gasoline (汽油) cars for many years before electric (电的) ones.

●They are more energy-saving, making them cheaper to run.
Gasoline cars
●Gas cars can cover a longer distance (行程更远).
●Gas cars are ___54___ to get gasoline than electric cars to get charged.

Should parents push their kids so hard? What’s more, I have to share chores every day at home. That’s so boring. Lastly, I always feel lonely because I am too shy to make friends at school.
Could you help me? Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Ling

【答案】例文
Dear Li Ling,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re facing so many problems. Don’t worry. I’m here to help you.
First, to sleep better, drink warm milk and read before bed. Good rest stops headaches and lifts grades. Second, tell your parents you need free time to review, so classes should be cut to two each weekend. Third, see chores as exercise. Doing chores keeps you healthy and makes parents happy. Lastly, smile at one classmate every day and join a small club. I’m sure you will have friends soon.
I hope these suggestions will help. Let me know if you need more help.
Yours,
Mr. Wang
