Born with a skin condition, Michaela Mabinty DePrince was labeled the “devil’s child” at her Sierra Leone orphanage(孤儿院), the last to be fed and the first to be beaten. When an issue of Dance Magazine blew into the orphanage yard, with a woman smiling on the cover, she imagined a better life as a ballerina(芭蕾舞女演员).
Adopted by an American family at age 4, she studied and practiced to make her dream a reality. When she was just 15, she was one of six promising dancers in the documentary First Position. She went on to study at the American Ballet Theatre and became a dancer of the Dance Theatre of Harlem. At the height of her career, she secured starring roles with the Dutch National Ballet and appeared in the film version of Lemonade.
She was born in the war-torn West African country of Sierra Leone. When she was 3, her miner father was killed and her mother died of hunger. At the orphanage, she took to turning around quickly and standing on the tips of her toes, and the DePrinces, the couple who adopted her and brought her back to New Jersey, promised to take her to ballet lessons once she excelled in English. She was quickly discovered to the talented. With her athleticism and what one reviewer called her “spitfire quickness”, Michaela became an international star in Amsterdam. There she took the lead in such ballets as Swan Lake and Coppelia, dancing with "undeniable grace, strength, and precision.”
She had to take a break in 2017 after an accident, which gave her time “to seek treatment for years of nightmares(噩梦)” about her wartime childhood. She joined the Boston Ballet in 2021 but left in the same year for undisclosed reasons. “Dance with your heart,” she once told young ballerinas. “Don’t let the negative aspects of life cause you to lose what made you want to achieve in the first place.”
24.Why is a magazine mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A.To indicate the inspiration for Michaela’s dream.
B.To illustrate the cause of her skin condition.
C.To show the variety of magazines at the orphanage.

D.Taking the lead in the Dance Theater of Harlem

B.Once she returned to New Jersey.
C.Once she attended English lessons.
D.After she showed a talent for ballet.
27.Which of the following best describes Michaela!
A.Lucky and mysterious. B.Promising and curious.

Have you ever been astonished by a magician’s trick, and then tried to work out how they did it? If so, then you’ve done more than just try to solve a particular bit of stagecraft(舞台艺术). You’ve taken a step toward figuring out some of the mysteries of human brain itself in the company of an expert.
It may be carefully hidden, but the psychology of learning is an important aspect of magicians’ art. It’s more important than their props, their assistants and even the physical skills developed over decades. A sharp understanding of thinking and learning is important to every trick they do.
So, it’s not surprising that psychologists are now exploring beyond the smoke and mirrors to “learn about learning” from these masters of magic and the human mind. In the process, they’re uncovering secrets that can help us all to use our brains better, and showing how we can add an extra bit of sparkle(火花) to everything we do.
Magic has been a rich resource for research ever since. Magicians change visual processing with optical illusions(视觉幻象). They use false logic to affect volunteers’ decision-making. Even the most natural-looking movement of a hand can have a powerful psychological effect.
Magicians know, for example, that our eyes look wherever they look. And they rely on the brain’s instinct (直觉) to watch moving objects. In many ways, they know our minds better than we do!
Recently, the research has gathered pace, and it has become more complicated. As magician Matthew L. Tompkins shows in his book The Spectacle of Illusion, psychologists are now using magic to understand more about processes such as observation, decision-making and belief-forming.
28.What are you trying to do while reflecting on a magic trick?
A.Expect more explanations from experts.
B.Understand more about our brains.
C.Learn more performance skills.
D.Solve some mysteries in life.
29.Why do psychologists further study magic?
A.To know more about magicians’ thinking.
B.To explore more stage props.
C.To help people better use their brains.
D.To discover more mysterious magic tricks.
30.How can a magician produce a powerful effect in front of the audience?
A.By giving them a false visual effect.
B.By relying on natural-looking movements.
C.By negatively affecting their brains’ instinct.
D.By following the pace of their decision-making.
31.What’s mainly discussed in the text?
A.The mysteries of human brain.
B.Common tricks used by magicians.
C.The importance of psychology in magic.
D.The relationship between magic and science.

The Forbidden City is well-known for being full of Chinese cultural and historical relics. But Masters in the Forbidden City does not just focus on the stories of the past. Instead, the documentary film focuses on ordinary people — the restorers of relics and antiques.
The stories are told at a slow and relaxed pace, reflecting the restorers’ work. Restoration of cultural relics and antiques can be time-consuming, and sometimes boring. These restorers’ patience and peace of mind are especially precious in a society where everything is changing so fast. “If you choose this job, you have to stand hours of work sitting on a chair. You need to be quiet and get used to being quiet,” says Wang Jin, an ancient clock repair expert.
A touching part of the documentary is the spirit of craftsmanship in the restorers. “Years of humdrum work requires not only skill, but also faith and spirit,” China Daily commented, “Looking for preciseness and perfection, devoting yourself to work, patience, endurance, loneliness...all these qualities come from the craftsmanship spirit.”
But unlike the popular idea of stuffy (古板的) experts who sit around being serious, the documentary shows off the enthusiasm of the restorers. They play their guitars and make jokes about each other after a long day of restoration work. One scene that has been very popular with Internet users features a young female restorer riding a bicycle through the empty Forbidden City on a Monday. While she is doing this, a narrator says, “The last person to do this was Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty.”
Masters in the Forbidden City has proved wrong many people’s ideas about antique restorers, allowing them to realize that they are not old, dull professors, but people in their 40s, 30s and even 20s who can be quite pleasing to the eye.
32.What’s the main purpose of the documentary Masters in the Forbidden City?
A.To tell the stories of the past.
B.To show people how antiques are restored.
C.To draw attention to Chinese antique restorers’ life.
D.To focus on ordinary people living in the Forbidden City.
33.What can we learn about antique restorers according to Wang Jin?
A.They get tired of their work.
B.They need to be devoted to the work.
C.They must stand hours to do the work.
D.They have to do the restoration on their own.
34.What does the underlined word “humdrum” probably mean?
A.Dull. B.Ordinary. C.Relaxing. D.Peaceful.
35.What does the bicycle-riding scene convey?
A.Antique restorers’ life is relaxing.
B.Antique restorers can be young and enthusiastic.
C.It’s an everyday routine for Puyi to ride a bicycle.
D.Young antique restorers are quite pleasing to the eye.

Film has seen great progress over the years. While actors and directors often receive most of the praise, the heroes behind the screen are the musicians who make a film unforgettable. 36 This is the kind of music we call a film score (配乐). It has developed through several stages.
In the silent film era, music was used to fill the silence. 37 They had to respond in real time to the changing scenes, adjusting their music to match the mood. This was the early form of film scoring.
The shift from live performance to written scores began in the early 1900s. French composer (作家) Camille Saint-Saens was the first to write original music specially for film. This marked a new stage of film scoring. 38 They worked closely with directors. As sound technology advanced, film scoring became an important part of the film-making process.
39 By the mid-20th century, they grew to include rock, pop, hip-hop, and electronic music. Films like Saturday Night Fever used popular music to define both character and culture. In science fiction films, electronic sounds were used to create a sense of the unknown.
Today, film musicians continue to shape the way we experience films. Masters like Hans Zimmer have moved us deeply with the beautiful score in Interstellar. Combining traditional instruments with digital production in innovative ways, he has brought us new sounds. 40
A.The film industry gained big success.
B.From then on, more composers joined in.
C.Musicians would play live music in theaters.
D.As a new kind of music, it faced many challenges.
E.His music takes us on a whole new journey of the senses.

The school’s short video competition, “The Hero in My Heart”, was coming to an end, and David was feeling the pressure. His father, an ordinary factory worker, and his mother, an average cleaner in their neighborhood, didn’t seem like the kind of heroes you see in stories. As the final day got closer, David thought hard, but he couldn’t think of any ideas.
All of David’s classmates were excited, talking about the parts of their videos, but David didn’t say anything. One night, in the school library, his friend Mike came over to him. “Hey, David, how’s your video going?” Mike asked. David said, “I’m not doing well. I can’t think of anyone to make a video about.” Mike told David, “You’ll come up with something. You always do.” He gave David a supportive tap on the shoulder, making David want even more to find his hero.
One night, when David was sitting at the kitchen table, his mom came back from work. Her hands were worn and her clothes were dirty from working all day. Even though she was tired, she smiled at David and asked him about his day. David felt bad; he had been so worried about his own problems that he hadn’t really noticed how hard his mom worked.
That night, while they were enjoying their dinner, David’s mom told stories about her day. She spoke about assisting an elderly couple who had lost their way and guiding them back home, as well as comforting a kid who was upset after dropping his ice cream. As she told these stories, David started to see things differently. His mom’s job wasn’t just about cleaning; she was also helping people and being kind.
This gave David an idea. He decided to make a video about his mom’s everyday heroism. The next day, he followed her with a camera, filming her as she cleaned the halls, helped neighbors, and took care of the shared spaces. Seeing how the people in their community respected and thanked his mom, he realized that she was a hero in her own way.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
David worked late into the night, working on the video.

M: I think the new film that Fitzgerald directed is quite good. The only problem is that it’s aimed at teenagers only. It holds no interest for any other age group.
W: I like the great musical performances in Fitzgerald’s film. He’s also a gifted violinist and guitarist, isn’t he?
M: Well, I never see him play the violin or the guitar. As far as I know, the piano is the only instrument he likes.
W: I’ve heard that quite a few important people dislike him. Do you know anything about this?
M: Well. Fitzgerald’s expressed his opinions directly and that sometimes makes those important
people annoyed. You see, he has his own ideas about life and he doesn’t simply take on other people’s because they are famous. Indeed, it is this very aspect of his personality that I find most attractive. I think the only person he admires and respects is Freddie Taylor.
W: But they have different personalities. Freddie has a warm heart and he is easy to get along with.

OK everyone, now I need to say a few things about our visit to Staunton Theater next Tuesday. You need to be here at school at 5: 50. We’ll meet at the back gate because the bus can’t stop at the front one. We can’t leave any later than 6: 00, as the play starts at 7: 30. We’re seeing a very interesting play called The Party by Andrew McVitie. It’s a comedy about a birthday celebration. His works can be difficult to understand so you need to read the play in advance. There is a copy for everyone which you can pick up from the school secretary. Do that as soon as you can. The full price of the theater tickets is $ 18, but you’re all lucky, because you only have to pay $ 15 each. Could you let me have this money before Tuesday, please, and $ 2 for the bus. Now, a lot of you have suggested going some where together afterwards. Well, the bus driver is willing to comeback a bit later, but there isn’t time for a big meal, so we’ll go to a cafe nearby for an ice cream and a coffee.

A. lonely孤独的;B. afraid害怕的;C. tired累的;D. hungry饥饿的。

A. doubted怀疑;B. forgot忘记;C. knew知道;D. hoped希望。根据下文“but they hadn’t paid any attention to me — until now.”

A. once曾经;B. only仅仅;C. also也;D. still仍然。根据上文“No matter how playful they appeared a few minutes before”以及下文“wild animals”可知,尽管狼之前看起来很顽皮,但作者记得它们“仍然”是野生动物,具有潜在的危险性。故选D项。
A. warn警告;B. catch抓住;C. rush冲向;D. pass经过。

A. bothered在意;B. controlled控制;C. forced强迫;D. fooled愚弄。根据上文“Every few minutes, one of the wolves looks over at me”以及下文“I relax a little as I watch them eat.” 故选A项。
A. game游戏;B. sleep睡觉;C. meal饭;D. film电影。根据下文“Many hours later, they begin to wake up.”

A. safe安全的;B. lucky幸运的;C. funny有趣的;D. free自由的。根据上文“The three older wolves run off into the hills for food, leaving me with the young!” 故选A项。

The film you see on the screen is the product of a huge amount of hard work, most of 56 takes place behind the scenes. Secondly, CGI has been 59 (frequent) used in film-making as a special effects technology. Generally, scenes requiring CGI are filmed in front of a green screen in the studio, which 60 (enable) CGI effects to be added later. The Quidditch scenes in the Harry Potter films were made in this way with the actors 61 (jump) up and down in front of a green screen. However, the aid of computers isn't always 62 (prefer). Next time you go to the cinema, you’ll spare a thought for all those 65 (talent) people behind the scenes.
56.which 57.with 58.shot 59.frequently 60.enables 61.jumping 62.preferred 63.to 64.do 65.talented
故填which。
be familiar with为固定短语,意为“对……熟悉”。故填with。
prefer是谓语动词,与主语the aid of computers是被动关系,空前有isn’t,空处需填过去分词preferred。故填preferred。
故填to。
故填do。

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
David worked late into the night, working on the video.

David kept his project secret, not even sharing it with his mother.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
David worked late into the night, working on the video.
