教学重难点
Vocabulary and Phrases
The key words and phrases related to landscapes are crucial. Students need to remember and use them correctly in different contexts.
Describing Landscapes
Teaching students how to describe landscapes in detail, including using proper adjectives, prepositional phrases, and simple present tense sentences.
Reading Comprehension Skills
Training students to master reading skills such as skimming, scanning, and understanding details, which are essential for reading texts about landscapes.
教学过程
A. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Show Pictures
Show students a series of pictures of famous landscapes around the world, such as the Eiffel Tower in France, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and the Pyramids in Egypt.
Ask students: "Do you know these places? Can you name them?" Encourage students to answer actively.
Ask Questions
Then ask: "What do you think of these landscapes? Are they beautiful? Why?" Let students share their opinions briefly. This step can arouse students' interest in the topic of landscapes.
B. Vocabulary Teaching (10 minutes)
Presentation
Present the new words and phrases related to landscapes one by one on the PPT. Show pictures of corresponding landscapes along with the words, for example, when presenting the word "waterfall", show a picture of a magnificent waterfall.
Read the words and phrases aloud, and ask students to follow and repeat several times. Pay attention to the pronunciation of difficult words like "landscape" and "waterfall".
Practice
Play a word - matching game. Divide the new words into two columns on the blackboard, one column with English words and the other with Chinese meanings. Ask students to come to the blackboard and match them correctly.
Another activity is to ask students to make sentences using the new words they have just learned. For example, after learning the word "mountain", a student can say "I want to climb a high mountain someday."
C. Reading (15 minutes)
Skimming
Give students a short passage about a famous landscape, such as the Grand Canyon. Ask them to skim the passage quickly within 2 minutes and answer the question: "What is the main idea of this passage?"
Check the answers with the whole class. This step helps students get a general understanding of the text.
Scanning
Let students read the passage again, this time scan for specific information. Set some detailed questions, such as "Where is the Grand Canyon located?", "How deep is it?" etc.
After students finish reading, ask them to answer the questions. This can train students' ability to find specific information in the text.
Detailed Reading
Read the passage sentence by sentence with students. Explain the difficult sentences, new grammar points, and key words in the context. For example, if there is a sentence "The Grand Canyon, which is one of the natural wonders of the world, attracts millions of visitors every year.", explain the usage of the non - restrictive relative clause "which is one of the natural wonders of the world".
Ask students some comprehension questions to check their understanding of the details, like "Why is the Grand Canyon so famous?"
D. Speaking (10 minutes)
Model Dialogue
Present a model dialogue about introducing a landscape on the PPT. For example:
A: Hi, do you know Zhangjiajie National Forest Park?
B: Yes, I do. It's in Hunan Province, right?
A: Exactly. It is famous for its strange - shaped mountains and beautiful forests.
B: Sounds great. I really want to visit it someday.
Read the dialogue with a student first, and then ask students to read it in pairs, paying attention to the intonation and pronunciation.
Group Discussion
Divide students into groups of four. Ask each group to choose a landscape they are interested in, which can be a local landscape or a foreign one.
In the group, students take turns to introduce the landscape they have chosen, including its location, appearance, and unique features. Encourage them to use the words and expressions they have learned in this class.
After the group discussion, invite some groups to come to the front of the class and share their discussions with the whole class.
E. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of this class with students, including new words, grammar, and how to describe landscapes. Review some important sentences and expressions together.
Homework
Ask students to write a short passage about a landscape they like best. The passage should be at least 80 words and include the basic information of the landscape.
Suggest students to find more pictures and information about their favorite landscapes and bring them to the next class to share.
教学反思
After this class, I think the following aspects can be improved. In the lead - in part, although showing pictures can attract students' attention, the time for students to express their opinions can be extended a little bit to make them more involved. During the vocabulary teaching, more creative games can be designed to make the learning process more interesting. For the reading part, some students still have difficulties in understanding long and complex sentences, so more practice in analyzing sentence structures is needed in the future. In the speaking activity, some students are a little shy to speak in front of the class. I should encourage them more and create a more relaxed speaking environment. Overall, through this class, students have learned some knowledge about landscapes and improved their language skills to a certain extent, but there is still room for improvement in teaching methods and strategies.
