Unit 2 Neighbourhood-Further study This further study session of Unit 2 "Neighbourhood" aims to deepen students' understanding of the theme. It continues to explore various aspects of neighbourhoods, such as different types of neighbourhoods around the world, community facilities, and the relationships among neighbours. Through a series of activities, students will expand their vocabulary related to neighbourhoods, improve their language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and also enhance their awareness of community and cross - cultural communication. 教学目标 Students will be able to master and use advanced vocabulary related to neighbourhoods, such as "suburb", "residential area", "block", "public amenities" (e.g., park, library, community centre), etc. They can correctly use sentence patterns to describe neighbourhoods, like "There is/are... in the neighbourhood." "My neighbour is...", and express future plans about their neighbourhood with "will" and "be going to", for example, "I will participate in the community clean - up activity this weekend." "We are going to plant some trees in the neighbourhood park." Understand the usage of prepositions and position words related to location in the context of neighbourhoods, such as "next to", "across from", "in front of", "behind", etc. 教学重难点 A. Teaching Key Points Expansion and consolidation of vocabulary and sentence patterns related to neighbourhoods. Training students' comprehensive language skills, especially in reading, writing, and speaking about neighbourhood - themed topics. Guiding students to understand the importance of community and the significance of good neighbourly relations. B. Teaching Difficult Points Helping students use complex sentence structures and new vocabulary accurately and fluently in real - life communication and writing. For example, when using relative clauses to describe neighbourhood facilities like "The community centre, which provides various activities for residents, is very popular." Cultivating students' critical thinking ability. They need to be able to analyze and evaluate different neighbourhood models, and put forward their own opinions and suggestions. Overcoming students' shyness and lack of confidence in oral English expression, and getting them to actively participate in class discussions and group work. A. Vocabulary Neighbourhood - related nouns: neighbourhood, suburb, block, residential area, business district, community centre, park, library, store, school, hospital, post office, police station, restaurant, etc. Occupation nouns related to neighbours: doctor, teacher, engineer, lawyer, policeman, cook, etc. Prepositions and position words: next to, beside, across from, in front of, behind, around, between... and..., etc. Adjectives to describe neighbourhoods: quiet, noisy, clean, dirty, beautiful, convenient, etc. B. Sentence Patterns Describing the existence of things in the neighbourhood: There is/are... in the neighbourhood. For example, There are many tall buildings in our neighbourhood. There is a small park next to my house. Describing neighbours: My neighbour is... He/She works as... For example, My neighbour is a kind - hearted lady. She works as a nurse in the local hospital. Expressing future plans: I will... We are going to... For example, I will help my neighbour with the garden work this Sunday. We are going to organize a neighbourhood party next month. C. Grammar Simple present tense: Used to describe the general situation and daily activities in the neighbourhood. For example, People in this neighbourhood often go for a walk in the evening. The store opens at 8:00 am every day. Simple future tense (will and be going to): As mentioned above, "will" is often used to express spontaneous decisions or predictions, while "be going to" is used for planned actions. For example, I think it will rain tomorrow. (prediction) I am going to visit my neighbour because she is ill. (planned action) 教学过程 A. Warming - up (5 minutes) Greet the students as usual. Show some pictures of different neighbourhoods around the world on the PPT, such as a bustling city neighbourhood with skyscrapers, a peaceful suburban neighbourhood with single - family houses, and a traditional neighbourhood in a small town. Ask students to describe what they see in the pictures briefly in English. For example: T: Look at this picture. What can you see? S: I can see many tall buildings and busy streets. T: Very good. How about this one? S: There are some beautiful houses and a big garden. B. New Knowledge Presentation (12 minutes) Vocabulary teaching Present new words related to neighbourhoods on the PPT one by one, along with pictures for illustration. For example, when teaching "suburb", show a picture of a suburban area with green lawns, small houses, and tree - lined streets, and explain, "A suburb is an area on the edge of a city, where people usually live in a more peaceful and less crowded environment." Teach the pronunciation of each word clearly, and ask students to read after the teacher several times. Then, let students practice reading the words in pairs. Do a quick vocabulary quiz. Show the pictures again and ask students to say the corresponding words immediately. Sentence pattern teaching Write some example sentences on the blackboard to introduce the sentence patterns for describing neighbourhoods, such as "There is a supermarket across from the school." "My neighbour, who is a retired teacher, often helps me with my homework." Explain the structure and usage of these sentence patterns. For the relative clause in the second sentence, point out that it is used to give more information about the neighbour. Let students make their own sentences using the new sentence patterns. Ask several students to share their sentences with the class and correct any mistakes promptly. C. Reading Activity (10 minutes) Hand out a short passage about a special neighbourhood to each student. The passage can be about a neighbourhood that is famous for its environmental protection measures or a community with strong cultural traditions. Ask students to read the passage quickly (skim) to get the general idea. Then, ask them some general questions, such as "What is the main idea of this passage?" "Which neighbourhood is it talking about?" Next, let students read the passage carefully (scan) and answer some detailed questions on the PPT, such as "What special facilities does this neighbourhood have?" "How do the neighbours help each other?" After students finish reading and answering the questions, ask them to work in pairs to discuss and summarize the key points of the passage. Select some pairs to share their summaries with the whole class. D. Group Discussion and Oral Presentation (10 minutes) Divide students into groups of 4 - 5. Give each group a topic related to neighbourhoods, such as "What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in a big city neighbourhood?" or "How can we make our neighbourhood more beautiful?" Let the groups have a 5 - minute discussion. Encourage each student to express their opinions and listen to others' ideas. The group leader should take notes of the main points. After the discussion, each group selects a representative to give a 2 - minute oral presentation to the class. The representative should present the group's discussion results clearly. Other groups can ask questions or make comments after the presentation. E. Summary and Homework Assignment (8 minutes) Summary Summarize the key vocabulary, sentence patterns, and grammar points learned in this class with the students. Write them on the blackboard and ask students to copy them into their notebooks. Review the main content of the reading passage and the group discussion topics, emphasizing the importance of understanding and loving our neighbourhoods. Homework Assignment Ask students to write a short passage (about 80 - 100 words) to introduce their own neighbourhood. They should use at least 5 new words and 3 sentence patterns learned in this class. Suggest students to search for more information about different neighbourhoods in the world on the Internet or in books, and be ready to share it in the next class. 教学反思 After this class, I need to reflect on the following aspects: Teaching effectiveness: Whether students have effectively mastered the new vocabulary, sentence patterns, and grammar knowledge. This can be evaluated through their performance in class activities, such as the accuracy of their oral expressions, the correctness of their written sentences in the group discussion notes, and their ability to answer reading comprehension questions. Student participation: Observe whether all students actively participated in class activities. If some students were left out, think about the reasons. Maybe the tasks were too difficult for them, or the group work was not well - organized. In the future, I should adjust the difficulty level of tasks according to the students' actual situation and ensure that every student has the opportunity to participate and express themselves. Teaching methods: Evaluate whether the teaching methods used in this class, such as picture - based vocabulary teaching, group discussion, and reading activities, are appropriate and effective. Consider if there are better ways to present the knowledge to make it more interesting and easier for students to understand. For example, I could use more real - life videos or stories about neighbourhoods in the future to enhance students' learning enthusiasm. Homework feedback: Pay attention to the students' homework completion. Check if they can correctly use the learned knowledge in their writing. According to the homework situation, provide targeted guidance and supplementary teaching in the next class if necessary. By reflecting on these aspects, I can continuously improve my teaching quality and better meet the learning needs of students. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
