Unit 5 A healthy lifestyle-Reading This reading passage in Unit 5 of Grade 7 textbooks focuses on the theme of "A healthy lifestyle". It presents the different lifestyles of Kitty and Daniel through a narrative. Kitty has a healthy lifestyle. She dances for half an hour every day, gets nine hours of sleep, and has a healthy diet with lots of fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, and tofu while seldom eating cakes or sweets. In contrast, Daniel is a homebody who doesn't exercise very often. He likes beef, mutton, and has a sweet tooth. He sometimes stays up late and realizes his lifestyle is a little unhealthy and needs to change. The passage aims to let students understand the characteristics of healthy and unhealthy lifestyles through this contrast, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for keeping fit and full of energy. 教学目标 Students will be able to understand and master the new words and phrases related to lifestyle, such as "diet", "energy", "stay up", "have a sweet tooth", "keep fit" etc. Students can understand the key information in the reading passage about healthy and unhealthy lifestyles, including diet, exercise, and sleep. Enable students to master the usage of key sentence patterns, such as "It's + adj. + for sb. to do sth." and use them to express opinions about lifestyle. 教学重难点 1. Enable students to apply the learned knowledge to real - life situations, and use English to communicate about lifestyle issues fluently. 1. Grammar Focus The usage of adverbs to describe frequency, such as "seldom", "often", "always", "never" etc. The usage of "It's + adj. + for sb. to do sth." structure. 教学过程 1. Lead - in (5 minutes) Show some pictures on the PPT, including pictures of people doing sports, eating healthy food, and sleeping. Then ask students: "What are these people doing? Do you think their lifestyles are healthy?" Let students discuss in pairs and share their ideas with the class. Write some key words on the blackboard, such as "healthy", "unhealthy", "exercise", "diet", "sleep", etc., which will be related to the topic of this class. 2. Pre - reading (10 minutes) Present new words and phrases related to lifestyle on the PPT one by one. Teach students how to pronounce them correctly, and explain their meanings briefly. For example, when teaching "have a sweet tooth", show a picture of a person eating a lot of candies and cakes, and say "If someone likes eating sweet food very much, we can say he/she has a sweet tooth." Let students read the new words and phrases after the teacher several times, and then have a quick review by asking some students to read them individually. Show the title of the reading passage "What we eat and how we live" and the pictures related to Kitty and Daniel in the passage. Ask students to predict what the passage might be about. Encourage them to share their predictions with the class. 3. While - reading (20 minutes) Fast - reading: Let students read the passage quickly within 2 minutes and find out the main idea of the passage. Then ask them to answer the question: "What is the main topic of this passage?" (The main topic is to introduce the different lifestyles of Kitty and Daniel and show the importance of a healthy lifestyle.) Divide the passage into several parts and ask students to find out the general idea of each part. For example, the first part may be about Kitty's lifestyle, the second part about Daniel's lifestyle, and the third part about Daniel's plan to change his lifestyle. Careful - reading: Let students read the passage carefully for the first time. Ask them to find out the information about Kitty's lifestyle, including her exercise, diet, and sleep. After checking the answers, ask students to compare Kitty's and Daniel's lifestyles. Let them discuss in groups of four: "What are the differences between Kitty's and Daniel's lifestyles? Which lifestyle is healthier? Why?" Then ask some groups to report their discussion results. Teach students some language points in the passage. For example, explain the meaning and usage of "It's + adj. + for sb. to do sth." by giving more examples: "It's good for us to eat more vegetables. It's necessary for students to get enough sleep." 4. Post - reading (10 minutes) Group discussion: Divide students into groups of four. Ask each group to discuss their own lifestyles, including what they usually eat, how much exercise they do, and how many hours they sleep every day. Then ask them to evaluate whether their lifestyles are healthy or not, and give some suggestions for improvement if necessary. Each group chooses a representative to report their discussion results to the class. After each report, other students can ask questions or give their own opinions. Summary: Summarize the key points of this class, including new words, phrases, sentence patterns, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Write the key points on the blackboard again to strengthen students' memory. Homework assignment: Ask students to write a short passage about their own lifestyles, introducing their diet, exercise, and sleep habits, and stating whether their lifestyles are healthy or not and what they will do to improve if necessary. The passage should be at least 80 words. 教学反思 In this class, through various teaching methods such as picture - showing, group discussion, and reading practice, students' interest in learning has been effectively aroused. They have actively participated in class activities, and basically achieved the expected teaching objectives. Most students have a good understanding of the new words, phrases, and key sentence patterns, and can use them to describe lifestyles. However, there are still some problems. For example, in the group discussion part, some students were a little shy and did not actively express their opinions. In future teaching, more encouragement should be given to these students to make them more confident in speaking English. Also, when explaining some language points, although examples were given, some students still seemed a bit confused. In the next class, more practice exercises related to language points will be designed to help students better master them. Overall, this class has laid a good foundation for students to further understand the topic of a healthy lifestyle, but there is still room for improvement in teaching methods and student participation. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
