To make things 3 for his grandmother, Yang thought of creating a machine that could automatically(自动地) harvest lotus roots. News of his project quickly

Yang faced 7 such as collecting parts, putting them together, and using a hot glue gun(热熔胶枪) for bonding during the invention process. “The first time I used a hot glue gun, my hands were shaking. But practice makes perfect. I could do it well later,” Yang laughed. 8 , he improved with practice.

At the 7th China International Import Expo in Shanghai, the “Low-altitude Economy(低空经济)” shone brightly. Many companies showing electric vertical take-off and
landing(eVTOL, 电动垂直起降) aircrafts(飞行器), also known as an air taxi, drew
large crowds with their high technology. The future of air taxis seems much closer now.
On February 27th, 2024, an eVTOL aircraft completed its first inter-city flight in
Guangdong. The eVTOL aircraft started its journey from Shenzhen to Zhuhai, completing the 55-kilometer trip in about 20 minutes. This flight is an important development of this exciting new form of transport.

Air taxis can take off and land vertically without using long runways. Instead of
using traditional combustion engines(内燃机), air taxis use electric motors. These air taxis have propellers(螺旋桨) to help them stay balanced. They also use lithium-ion batteries(锂离子电池) to store electricity, letting them fly far and fast. With a central command center that keeps an eye on the flight, some of them can fly without a pilot.
There is no doubt that air taxis can help improve heavy traffic, with their direct point-to-point travel saving time for people. Besides this benefit(好处), air taxis produce
fewer emissions(排放物) than traditional cars, improving air quality.

However, air taxis require special “vertiports” for take-off and landing. Researchers are now trying to make full use of small existing airports as vertiports. And with plans to fly at low altitudes(纬度) in cities, there’s still much work to be done to keep everyone
safe.
