(2025·贵州遵义阶段考)“Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you'll look back and realize they were the big things.” This has stuck with me since the first time I read it.And it just makes so much sense.
Just the other day I caught a cold. The flu really made me mad and made me feel so weak and just sleepy. You all know how flu can be driving.I woke up with a weak body. How I wished it was a weekend already but it was Monday and I had to go to work.I dragged myself out of bed and made it to work.We have a care taker at work.We call her dada Lucy, who usually prepares some nice lunch for us.She noticed I was not okay and she was sorry for me.
As I was on my desk, dada Lucy came with some cough syrup (糖浆) to ease my throat.I was so moved by her kind gesture and thoughtfulness. The thought of all this just got straight to my heart.I felt so good, I felt loved, I felt visible and it was a huge relief.
And I believe it's the collection of these small kind gestures, and these little things as we may call them that make life worth living. It's days like these that remind us of the power of the little things that most of the time go unnoticed. It's these days remind us that there are still good and kind people out there who always find ways to brighten up others, to lift them up and put a smile on their faces. And I believe we all can be like that.I believe every human being has that soft side to share with the world.

California researchers developed a glove embedded with electronic sensors that can translate American Sign Language (ASL) into English in real time through an app on your smartphone.
Unlike its past counterparts, the new glove is lightweight, inexpensive and longlasting. The device could help remove communication barriers between signers and nonsigners.Hopefully, this may open up an easy way for people who use sign language to communicate directly with nonsigners without needing someone else to translate for them.
The team worked with four people who are deaf and use ASL and had them repeat gestures up to 15 times while wearing the glovelike device, simultaneously teaching a machine how to recognize them.
The glove has thin, stretchable sensors made from “electrically conducting yarns” that run up each finger and convert the movements into signals. These signals are sent to a “dollarcoinsized” circuit board placed on the person's wrist, which then wirelessly transfers them over to a smartphone.
The system was able to recognize 660 hand motions and finger placements that stand for each letter in the English alphabet, different phrases and each number. The algorithm (计算程序) recognized the correct signs about 99% of the time, and in less than one second—or about at one word per second.
The researchers also placed sensors in between the participants eyebrows and on the sides of their mouths to “capture facial expressions that are a part of ASL”.The same exact handshape and movement can totally change meaning because of the facial expression that is used to accompany it.Take the word MUCH.The degree of how much can totally be determined by the facial expression alone while the sign stays the same.
Researchers said the glove would need to learn more vocabulary and be able to translate signs faster in order to get a commercial version of it in stores.

9.What does paragraph 4 mainly say about the new glove?
A.Its reliability.
B.Its components.
C.Its working principle.
D.Its broad applications.
10.How do researchers improve the glove's correctness of recognition?
A.By connecting it to smartphones.
B.By catching information from more angles.
C.By lengthening the time of catching gestures.
D.By inputting more letters and words in English.

(2025·湖北重点高中智学联盟联考)Willful ignorance exists in large amount in daily life.People regularly look the other way rather than examining the consequences of their actions.Despite plenty of scientific evidence for climate change, for instance, many people still avoid engaging with facts about global warming.
We wanted to understand how common willful ignorance is and why people engage in it.After collecting data from multiple research projects that involved more than 6,000 individuals, we discovered that willful ignorance is common and harmful, with 40 percent of people choosing “not to know” the consequences of their actions to free themselves of guilt while maximizing their own gains. But we also found that about 40 percent of people are unselfish: rather than avoiding information about the consequences of their actions, they seek it out to increase the benefits to others.
In the experiments, the decisions were made in one of two settings. In the transparent (透明的) setting, decisionmakers had information about how their choice would affect themselves and their partner. In an ambiguous (模糊的) setting, decisionmakers knew how their choice would matter for themselves but not for their teammate—although they could request that insight.
The overall balance tipped toward selfishness when participants had the option to avoid information.Only 39 percent of people in the ambiguous setting made the choice that ultimately benefited their partner—a significant drop from 55 percent in the transparent condition.
If we can avoid putting a strong moral emphasis on decisions, it may make people feel less threatened and, as a result, be less willfully ignorant.Other research groups have found promising ways to do this. For instance, we could encourage people to think more positively about good deeds rather than guilttrip them for what they have failed to do.Highlighting recent global achievements, such as healing the ozone (臭氧) layer, can inspire people to keep up the good work rather than feeling like the battle is lost and that the situation is hopeless.
In short, we can encourage one another and ourselves toward more selfless and generous actions.

A.To make easier choices to be a good person.
B.To increase their own benefits more than others'.
C.To avoid the influence of consequences on actions.
D.To get the most benefits without a sense of shame.
根据第二段中“...we discovered that willful ignorance is common and harmful, with 40 percent of people choosing ‘not to know’ the consequences of their actions to free themselves of guilt while maximizing their own gains.”

B.The harmful effects of willful ignorance.
C.The results of willful ignorance.
D.The influence of willful ignorance on environment.
通读全文,尤其是第二段中“We wanted to understand how common willful ignorance is and why people engage in it.” 故选A。

(2025·四川内江期中)Making good eye contact is a surprisingly difficult yet important part of good communication skills. If you want to improve your ability to look people in the eye, you can practice making eye contact on your own to give the right impression in conversations. 16
Try to relax as much as possible. The more you think about what you're doing, the more awkward you'll feel.Your nervousness can then be misinterpreted as dishonesty. 17 If you're going into an important meeting or interview, do some breathing exercises.A few big, full, deep breaths can do a lot to calm you down.
18 It's actually physically somewhat difficult to keep your eyes locked on both of another person's eyes. It's more common to focus on one, or on a spot on the face, rather than trying to look at both eyes at once.If it helps, try moving back and forth between the two eyes.
Break your gaze (凝视) to make other gestures while listening. 19 This looks natural as well as providing you with a needed break if necessary.
Try to keep your eyes focused while you talk as well as listen. It's one thing to look while you're listening. 20 Don't be afraid if you have to break your gaze occasionally, but try to keep your face and eyes forward and up as you're talking.
A.Focus on one eye.
B.Practice other good listening skills.
C.So staying relaxed is of particular importance.
D.Try to keep your eyes open as much as possible.
E.Doing so can make you a better listener and a more effective speaker.
F.It's good to break eye contact when you're laughing, or to nod and smile.
G.But it's more difficult to keep eye contact while you're also trying to say something.

Dear David,
I can't wait to share with you my idea for the class activity on the topic of “Body Language”.
I am excited to present to you my design for the class activity on the theme of “Body Language”.The activity will involve interactive roleplaying exercises where students will have to communicate without using words, relying solely on their body language to convey emotions, intentions, and messages.Through these exercises, students will develop a deeper understanding of the importance of nonverbal communication and how it impacts our daily interactions.
Looking forward to your feedback!

(2025·浙江A9协作体期中联考)My father had been a sales trainer who taught presentation skills. He traveled across the world for work and competed in tennis tournaments on the weekends.“Life is good,” he would always say, with a twinkle in his eyes.
Everything changed during my second year of high school.A sudden stroke (中风) left my dad with severe physical and neurological deficits. He was unable to move the right side of his body. But the most serious problem, amidst so many others, was his loss of speech.
The stroke resulted in a disorder called aphasia, which damages someone's ability to communicate and understand language. It was like my father was a prisoner in his own body, unable to do and say exactly what he wanted.
The aphasia also caused my dad to say things he did not mean.He would sometimes cry in the middle of a funny movie and laugh when something tragic happened.I found myself going through embarrassment whenever we were in public. My father would wave his cane like a weapon and shout incoherent yet harmless phrases at passersby. It upset me.I hated the stares and hushed comments, even though he did not notice.
One afternoon, I came home to find my dad watching an old video. It was a video of my father and me playing tennis. What used to be such a simple pleasure was now impossible. We watched in silence until I couldn't hold my grief any longer.I found myself shaking and crying. At any time, he could have another stroke. There was no promise of tomorrow.I felt overcome by fear, both for my family and for my father.
Father's lips moved while he watched me cry.He clearly wanted to say something, but was powerless.I wondered what he wanted to say to inspire me to face up to the darkness we were going through.
I finally found my answer when one day I took my dad to the park, rowing a boat as we did a few times before.“You...and...me!” he managed to say.

Shocked, I wanted to hear more. Seized by eagerness and excitement, I leaned forward, inclining my ear to his lips.I tried to pretend not to be waiting though I knew Dad was struggling for his voice. My dad looked at me with a familiar expression.“Life...good.” The words came in a mumble, but I got them.Maybe because of his bright smile, or a rush of warm air, in that precious moment, I understood exactly what he meant.
“Yes.Life is good.” I whispered back, completing it for him. That was what he would always say before his stroke.I couldn't imagine how tirelessly he had worked to recover what he had lost or to regain a fair amount of his speech.I could comprehend now he had always been trying to inspire me to move forward in the face of the darkest times.I used to love the light for it showed me the way; yet now I appreciate the darkness for it shows me the stars.
