Unit 3 Welcome to our school!-Assessment

 

This unit in the 2024 Yilin English textbook for Grade 7 focuses on the theme of "school". It aims to enable students to talk about their school, school facilities, and school life. Through a series of activities in different sections such as Welcome to the unit, Reading, Grammar, Integration, and Assessment, students will gradually build up their vocabulary related to school, master key sentence patterns for description, and improve their language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The Assessment section, which is the main focus of this lesson plan, provides a comprehensive review and evaluation of students' learning outcomes in this unit, helping them to identify their strengths and weaknesses and promoting further learning.

2. Sentence Patterns

There is a library in our school.

There are many classrooms in the classroom building.

It's on the first floor.

How many classrooms are there in your school?

Are there any computer rooms? Yes, there are. / No, there aren't.

I like the playground because I can play basketball there.

3. Grammar

"There be" structure: used to express the existence of something. The singular form is "There is...", and the plural form is "There are...".

"Some" and "any": "Some" is usually used in affirmative sentences to mean "a certain number or amount". "Any" is often used in negative and interrogative sentences. But in some polite requests or offers, "some" can also be used in interrogative sentences.

Simple present tense: used to describe habitual actions, general truths, and current situations. For example, "We have four classes in the morning." The verb form changes according to the subject. For the third - person singular subject (he, she, it), add -s or -es to the verb.

 

教学过程

1. Warming - up (5 minutes)

Greet the students as usual. Then show some pictures of different schools on the PPT, including the school gate, classrooms, library, playground, etc. Ask students: "What can you see in these pictures? Do you like these schools? Why or why not?" Encourage students to express their opinions briefly. This activity can arouse students' interest and lead in the topic of this assessment class - school.

2. Knowledge Review (10 minutes)

Vocabulary Review: Show the words of school facilities on the PPT one by one, and ask students to read them aloud quickly. Then play a "guessing game". The teacher describes a school facility in English, for example, "It's a place where you can borrow books." and asks students to guess what it is. This can help students review and reinforce the vocabulary.

Sentence Pattern Review: Write some incomplete sentences related to school description on the blackboard, such as "There ____ (be) a music room in our school." "____ (be) there any art rooms?" and ask students to come to the blackboard to fill in the blanks. After that, let students make their own sentences using these sentence patterns and share them with the class.

Grammar Review: Use some simple examples to review the "There be" structure, the usage of "some" and "any", and the simple present tense. For example, write two groups of sentences on the PPT: "There is a book on the desk." and "There are some books on the desk." Then ask students to explain the differences. And for the simple present tense, give some sentences like "He goes to school by bike every day." and "They play football
