A When I suggested my 13yearold daughter try tennis, she quickly refused me. “I'm not sporty; stop trying to get me to do sports,” Julianna said. I had suggested it because some of my happiest recent memories were of playing pingpong with her. Tennis seemed like a natural progression from pingpong and a great way to work out some of her growing pains on a larger playing field. But my suggestion was always refused by her. Still, I was undeterred. I believed that doing some sports would help Julianna manage her emotions. I've seen how sports help with stress. It worked for me when I was a teenage girl. Midway into summer, we stayed at home, and Julianna and I felt really bored. “Do you want to play tennis?” I asked her at lunch one afternoon. “Sure,” she said. At that time, we were both eager to spend as much time as possible out of the house. Arriving at the court, we set down our bags, picked up our rackets (球拍), and headed to our sides of the court. The net was like the growing divide between us—I desiring connection and my teenage daughter longing for independence. I started by hitting a ball over the net, and Julianna took a big swing and missed. We repeated this several more times. I didn't tell her she was holding the racket too close to the neck or that she should step more into her forehand. My daughter wanted the chance to figure these things out for herself. We repeated the pattern of me hitting the ball and her missing it a few times before she finally got it back over the net. “This is fun,” she said with a mixture of surprise and delight and then she smiled widely. Now we always find time to play tennis. We're both eager for an activity that can ease tensions between us in daily life. It's nice to have a place where both of us can release our negative moods and let them go. 1.Why did the author persuade her daughter to play tennis? A.Tennis was as popular as pingpong. B.They had a good time playing tennis together. C.It would help her daughter make more likeminded friends. D.It would be good for her daughter's emotional management. 根据第二段中的“I believed that doing some sports would help Julianna manage her emotions. I've seen how sports help with stress. It worked for me when I was a teenage girl.” D。 2.What does the underlined word “undeterred” mean in paragraph 2? A.Not dishonest. B.Not sure. C.Not discouraged. D.Not surprised. 根据第一段中的“But my suggestion was always refused by her.”可知,作者建议女儿从事体育运动的建议总是被拒绝,根据画线单词前的“still”可知,此处意为“然而”,与上文为转折关系;结合下文中的“I believed that doing some sports would help Julianna manage her emotions.” C。 3.What did the author do when her daughter missed the ball? A.She stood close to the net. B.She repeated hitting the ball. C.She changed ends with her daughter. D.She instructed her daughter immediately. 根据倒数第二段中的“I started by hitting a ball over the net, and Julianna took a big swing and missed. We repeated this several more times. I didn't tell her she was holding the racket too close to the neck or that she should step more into her forehand.” B。 4.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Mom Coaches Teen Daughter in Tennis B.Mom Helps Teen Daughter Express Her Emotions C.Mom Encourages Teen Daughter to Be Independent D.Mom and Teen Daughter Find Some Peace on the Tennis Court 解析:选D 主旨大意题。根据尾段“Now we always find time to play tennis. We're both eager for an activity that can ease tensions between us in daily life. It's nice to have a place where both of us can release our negative moods and let them go.” D。 B Basketball had always been a huge part of my life ever since I was little, and it had been my favorite sport until high school. I was captain of the team in my second year of high school. I felt I had to do very well. The stress I put myself under was unhealthy: I felt as if I couldn't make mistakes, and that stopped me enjoying the game I once loved. I finished my secondyear basketball season and had no fun at all. My Spanish teacher came up to me after my secondyear basketball season, asking if I had ever thought about playing Unified (融合的) Basketball. Unified Sports joins people with intellectual or physical disabilities (智力或身体缺陷) (called Athletes), and people without disabilities (called Partners), on the same team. The main goal is to build friendships and encourage inclusivity. I had thought about it before, but there was a rule that said I couldn't play Unified if I played basketball for the school. So, I finally decided to quit basketball. Quitting basketball was not easy. I received strong opposition (反对) from my parents and the coaches as well as my friends who were on the team. It was not a popular or traditional decision, but I knew it was the right one for me. Walking into my first Unified practice, I did not know what to expect. I awkwardly introduced myself to a few of the Unified Athletes, but after the first day, it already seemed like we were becoming a family. We won a lot of games, but we also had the most fun I've ever had. All the stress I used to feel disappeared when I played with them. Seeing the Athletes score their first points of the season and then dance down the whole court excitedly is one of my favorite basketball memories (记忆). Unified Sports opened my eyes to how much more there is to sports than winning and losing. The Athletes on the team thought that I was there to help them, but they did not know how much they helped me. 5.How did the author find playing basketball in his second year of high school? A.It did no good to his physical health. B.It took up too much of his free time. C.It needed some special skills. D.It brought him no pleasure. 根据第一段中的“I was captain of the team...The stress I put myself under was unhealthy: I felt as if I couldn't make mistakes, and that stopped me enjoying the game I once loved. I finished my secondyear basketball season and had no fun at all.” D。 6.What did others think of the author's decision to quit basketball? A.It was unwise. B.It was right for him. C.It was difficult to make. D.It was too important to rush. 根据第三段中的“Quitting basketball was not easy. I received strong opposition(反对) from my parents and the coaches as well as my friends who were on the team.” A。 7.How did the author feel after taking up Unified Basketball? A.Awkward and silly. B.Stressed and bored. C.Safe and confident. D.Relaxed and happy. 根据第四段中的“We won a lot of games, but we also had the most fun I've ever had. All the stress I used to feel disappeared when I played with them...is one of my favorite basketball memories(记忆).” D。 8.Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A.My Love of Basketball B.Unified Sports Changed My Life C.My Memories of Playing Basketball D.Sports Helped Me Make Lasting Friendships 解析:选B 主旨大意题。 B。 C Nowadays more and more young athletes are taking part in the risky activities called “extreme sports” or “Xsports”. In the past young athletes would play baseball. Today, they want risk and excitement— the closer to the edge, the better. They snowboard over cliffs (悬崖) and hike deep mountains. Extreme sports started as an alternative to more expensive sports such as golf. A city kid who couldn't afford expensive sports equipment could get a skateboard and have fun. But now it has become a whole new area of sports, with specialized equipment and high levels of skill. There is even an Olympics for extreme sports, called the Winter X Games, which includes snow mountain hiking and ice climbing. What makes extreme sports so popular? Maybe it's because people love the risk. City people want to be outdoors on the weekends and do something challenging. The new equipment is so much better that people can take more risks without getting hurt. Sure there's a risk. Once you go mountain hiking or snowboarding, it's impossible to go back to have riding or skiing. It's just too boring. Now even the older crowd is starting to join in. Every weekend, groups of friends in their early 30s get together. On weekdays they work as computer programmers in the same office. On weekends they hike mountains together. Extreme sports are certainly not for everyone. Most people still prefer to play basketball or watch sports on TV. But it has been a fact that extreme sports are gaining popularity. 9.Extreme sports started as an alternative to more expensive sports because . A.people didn't like to play golf B.some city kids couldn't afford expensive sports equipment C.there is an Olympics for extreme sports D.extreme sports are gaining popularity 10.To have extreme sports, you should . A.have specialized equipment and high levels of skill B.be very young at age C.do snow mountain hiking and ice climbing D.afford expensive sports equipment 11.The author gives the example of the computer programmers in the same office to show . A.young people love risks B.they can't afford golf C.they don't like to play basketball or watch sports on TV D.extreme sports are gaining popularity 12.The main idea of this passage is . A.extreme sports are certainly not for everyone B.the benefits and costs of extreme sports C.the development of extreme sports D.what makes extreme sports so popular 根据第三段的句子“Extreme sports started as an alternative to more expensive sports such as golf. A city kid who couldn't afford expensive sports equipment could get a skateboard and have fun.” 根据第三段的句子“But now it has become a whole new area of sports, with specialized equipment and high levels of skill.” 故选A。 11. 由倒数第二段“Now even the older crowd is starting to join in. Every weekend, groups of friends in their early 30s get together. On weekdays they work as computer programmers in the same office. On weekends they hike mountains together.” 根据全文内容,结合第一段“Nowadays more and more young athletes are taking part in the risky activities called ‘extreme sports’ or ‘Xsports’.” Ⅱ. Whether it's to improve your fitness, health or environment, taking up bicycle riding can be one of the best decisions you have ever made.
