Unit 5 The power of plants-Reflection This unit, "The power of plants", falls within the "Man and Nature" category, specifically focusing on "loving and respecting nature, and living in harmony with it". It aims to introduce students to the amazing world of plants. Students will learn various facts about plants, such as their ubiquity, their role in providing food and medicine, and their significance in nature. They will also explore how plants have cultural meanings in different societies. Through a series of texts, dialogues, and activities, students will enhance their language skills while developing an understanding and appreciation for the power of plants. 教学目标 Students will be able to master key vocabulary related to plants, such as "bamboo", "medicine", "habitat", etc. Grasp the usage of the simple future tense to talk about the benefits of plants. Understand and use sentence patterns like "A lot of our food comes from plants." and "We use different plants to make medicines." correctly. 教学重难点 1 Key Points Key vocabulary and sentence patterns related to plants. The usage of the simple future tense in the context of talking about plants. Understanding the importance of plants in different aspects, such as providing food, medicine, and habitats. 2 Difficult Points How to use the simple future tense accurately and flexibly to express future events about plants. Comprehending the cultural connotations and symbolic meanings of plants in different cultures. Organizing thoughts and expressing opinions clearly when discussing the power of plants. 1 Vocabulary Plants-related nouns: bamboo, flower, tree, grass, leaf, root, stem, fruit, seed, medicine, habitat, etc. Verbs: grow, provide, use, make, protect, etc. Adjectives: important, useful, amazing, etc. 2 Sentence Patterns A lot of our food comes from plants. We use different plants to make medicines. Plants provide habitats for many animals. In the future, we will plant more trees to protect the environment. 3 Grammar Simple Future Tense: Structure: will + verb 原形. For example, "Plants will play an even more important role in our lives in the future." Usage: To express future actions or states related to plants, such as future plans, predictions, and promises. 教学过程 1 Warming-up (5 minutes) Show students some pictures of various plants, such as bamboo growing rapidly, a beautiful flower blooming, and a large tree providing shade. Ask them to describe what they see in English. For example, "I can see a bamboo. It is very tall." Play a short video about the power of plants briefly, like how plants can clean the air or provide food for animals. After that, ask students some simple questions, such as "What can you learn from the video?" to arouse their interest in the topic. 2 New Knowledge Presentation (15 minutes) Vocabulary Teaching Present new words one by one using pictures and real objects if possible. For example, show a real leaf and say, "This is a leaf. L - E - A - F, leaf." Let students repeat after you several times. Explain the meanings and usages of key words. For "medicine", show some pictures of traditional Chinese medicine made from plants and say, "We use different plants to make medicines. Medicine can help us get better when we are sick." Ask students to read the words in pairs and correct their pronunciations if necessary. Sentence Pattern and Grammar Teaching Write the sentence "A lot of our food comes from plants." on the blackboard. Analyze the sentence structure with students, explain the meaning of "a lot of" and "come from". Let students make their own sentences using this pattern, such as "A lot of our clothes come from plants (referring to cotton)". Introduce the simple future tense in the context of plants. Write "In the future, we will plant more trees." on the blackboard. Explain the structure "will + verb 原形" and its usage for future actions. Give more examples, like "Plants will provide more oxygen for us in the future." Then ask students to create sentences about plants using the simple future tense. 3 Practice (15 minutes) Reading Practice Distribute a short passage about plants to students. The passage can include information about the importance of plants in providing food and habitats. Ask students to read the passage silently and answer some questions, such as "What are the main functions of plants mentioned in the passage?" After students finish reading, check the answers together. Then ask them to read the passage aloud in groups, paying attention to pronunciation and intonation. Listening Practice Play a dialogue between two students talking about plants. The dialogue can cover topics like the benefits of plants and future plans for protecting plants. Ask students to listen carefully and fill in the blanks with the missing words. For example, "A: What can plants do for us? B: They can provide us with ______ and ______." Play the dialogue again if necessary. Check the answers and let students practice reading the dialogue in pairs. Speaking Practice Divide students into groups of four. Give each group a topic related to plants, such as "The Most Useful Plant in Your Mind" or "How to Protect Plants in the Future". Let them discuss in groups and share their opinions. Each group selects a representative to report their discussion results to the whole class. Encourage other students to ask questions or make comments. 4 Production (5 minutes) Ask students to make a simple poster about plants. They can draw some plants, write down the functions of plants they have learned, and add some pictures cut from magazines or printed from the Internet. Walk around the classroom to offer help and guidance. After students finish, ask them to show their posters to their classmates and explain briefly. 5 Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary Summarize the key points of this class with students, including new words, sentence patterns, and the simple future tense. Review the importance of plants and what we have learned about them. Ask students to share what they have learned and what they are still confused about. Answer their questions. Homework Ask students to write a short passage about their favorite plant, including its appearance, functions, and why they like it. They should use at least five new words and two sentence patterns learned in this class. Encourage students to observe plants around them and record some interesting phenomena in their notebooks. 教学反思 After this class, I first need to consider the effectiveness of my teaching methods. Were the ways of presenting new knowledge, such as using pictures and real objects, helpful for students to understand? Did the group discussions fully engage students? In terms of students' performance, some students were very active in class, participating actively in discussions and answering questions. However, a few students seemed a bit shy and less involved. I need to find more ways to encourage them to participate, such as asking them some simpler questions first to build their confidence. For the teaching content, the grammar part, the simple future tense, might still be a bit difficult for some students. I should design more targeted exercises in the next class to help them master it better. Also, the time for students to make posters was a bit tight. Maybe I could adjust the time allocation in future classes to ensure students have enough time to show their creativity. Overall, this teaching experience gives me many insights on how to improve my teaching in the following classes about plants. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
