Unit 1 Asia Integrated skills 教学设计
I. Teaching Objectives
Enable students to master listening skills to extract information about a trip to Japan (itinerary, time, activities), and use the information to complete notes and a written passage.
Develop speaking skills to discuss Asian countries (location, size, population, languages) through pair work, using the “Speak up” model.
Integrate listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills to describe and communicate about Asian travel experiences, enhancing overall language application ability.
II. Language Knowledge
1. Key Vocabulary & Phrases
Travel - related: itinerary, flight, arrival, main sights, go sightseeing, take a tour, ancient city, try local foods
Country - description: location (in South East Asia), size (city - state), population (about five million), languages (English, Chinese)
2. Key Sentence Patterns
For listening/writing: “We are leaving... on... and plan to stay for... First, we visit...; On the second day, we...; On the third day...”
For speaking: “Where’s...? It’s in...; How many people are there in...? There are about...; What languages do they speak? Most people can speak...”
3. Key and Challenging Points
Listening Comprehension: Accurately catching details (time, places, activities) from the audio about the Japan trip.
Information Integration: Using listening information to complete written tasks (notes, passage) with correct grammar and vocabulary.
Speaking Practice: Fluently discussing Asian countries using the model dialogue, covering location, size, population, languages.
III. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Lead - in & Warm - up (5 minutes)
Show a world map and mark some Asian countries (Japan, Singapore, etc.). Ask: “What Asian countries do you know? Have you ever been to any? What do you know about them?”
Introduce the topic: “Today we’ll learn about a trip to Japan through listening and talk about Asian countries like Singapore in speaking.”
Step 2: Listening Practice — A trip to Japan (12 minutes)
Pre - listening (3 minutes):
Present A1: “A tour of Japan”. Let students predict the matching of days and activities. Discuss predictions, introducing words like “itinerary”, “ancient city”, “highest mountain”.
For A2, preview the note - taking blanks. Teach key words (flight time, arrival place, activities like sightseeing, visiting temples) and ask students to guess possible answers.
While - listening (6 minutes):
Play the audio for A1 and A2. Students do the matching in A1 and fill in the blanks in A2. Pause the audio if needed to help catch details (e.g., time, place names).
Play the audio again for verification.
Post - listening (3 minutes):
Check answers for A1 and A2. Discuss difficult parts (e.g., understanding “flight details”, “local activities”). Ask students to retell the Japan trip itinerary using A1 and A2 information.
Step 3: Writing Practice — Completing “The trip to Japan” (10 minutes)
Pre - writing (3 minutes):
Present A3: “The trip to Japan”. Guide students to use A1 and A2 information. Remind them of sentence structures (e.g., “Our flight will be...; First, we are going to visit...”).
Highlight grammar points: future tense (will be, plan to), sequence words (first, on the second day).
While - writing (5 minutes):
Students complete the passage independently. Walk around to help with word choice (e.g., “main sights”, “go sightseeing”) and grammar.
Post - writing (2 minutes):
Select a few students’ work to share. Correct mistakes publicly (e.g., verb tenses, prepositions) and praise good expressions.
Step 4: Speaking Practice — “Speak up: Where’s Singapore?” (13 minutes)
Pre - speaking (4 minutes):
Present B: “Speak up: Where’s Singapore?”. Read the model dialogue with students. Explain key questions and answers: “Where’s...?; How many people...?; What languages...?”.
Introduce more Asian countries (e.g., Thailand, South Korea) and related facts (location, population, languages) for practice.
While - speaking (6 minutes):
Students work in pairs. One student acts as Annie, the other as Simon, to discuss an Asian country. Encourage using the model and adding more details (e.g., “What’s the capital city?; What’s famous there?”).
Walk around to monitor, correct pronunciation, and encourage longer dialogues.
Post - speaking (3 minutes):
Invite 2 - 3 pairs to perform their dialogues. Comment on content (completeness of information) and language (fluency, grammar).
Step 5: Summary & Homework (5 minutes)
Summary (2 minutes):
Recap what’s learned: listening to extract travel details, writing a trip passage, speaking to discuss Asian countries. Emphasize integrating skills for better language use.
Homework (3 minutes):
Ask students to write a short passage (80 - 100 words) about an Asian country they discussed in pairs, including location, size, population, languages, and a famous attraction.
Find more information about another Asian country’s travel tips for next class sharing.
IV. Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness
Formative Assessment:
Observe students’ performance in listening (A1, A2) for detail - catching ability.
Check writing (A3) for information integration and grammar accuracy.
Evaluate speaking (B) for fluency, content completeness, and model application.
Summative Assessment (for later):
Review homework passages for comprehensive description of Asian countries.
Use quiz or project to assess overall skills integration.
V. Design Purpose
Skill Integration: Combines listening, writing, and speaking to enhance practical language use, mirroring real - life travel communication.
Content - Related: Focuses on Asian countries, making learning relevant to cultural exploration and travel topics.
Step - by - Step: From listening input to writing output and speaking practice, builds students’ confidence in using English for different tasks.
