Unit 6 Rain or Shine-Section A Pronunciation This section of Unit 6 Rain or Shine in the People's Education Press (2024) English textbook for Grade 7 focuses on a narrative text about a trip to Mount Huangshan. It presents two different perspectives, Helen's and Peter's, on their experiences during the climb. The text is filled with descriptions of the weather, such as heavy fog, wet ground, and the sun shining through the clouds, as well as their feelings and progress during the climb. Along with the text, there are vocabulary activities related to weather and mountain - climbing experiences, and listening and speaking tasks to reinforce the language learned. 教学目标 Students will be able to understand and use vocabulary related to weather during mountain - climbing, such as "fog", "wet", "tired", "in high spirits", etc. They can accurately identify and use sentence patterns like "It feels like...", "Although..., ..." to describe the situation and express their feelings. Ask students: "What can you see in these pictures? How do you feel when you see such mountains?" Encourage them to express their ideas in English, like "I can see the tall mountains. When it's sunny, I feel excited. When there is fog, I feel a bit mysterious." Then introduce the topic of this class: "Today, we are going to learn about two people's trip to a famous mountain in China - Mount Huangshan. Let's see how they feel about their journey." 2 Pre - reading (5 minutes) Let students look at the pictures in 1a. Ask them: "What do you think you can see, hear, or feel when you climb a mountain?" Give them some time to think and then invite several students to share their ideas. For example, a student may say: "I think I can see beautiful trees and rocks. I can hear birds singing. I may feel tired but also very excited." Next, briefly introduce Helen and Peter, and tell students that they are climbing Mount Huangshan. Let students predict what experiences and feelings they may have. Write their predictions on the blackboard. 3 While - reading (20 minutes) Skimming: Ask students to quickly read the posts by Helen and Peter in 1b. Then answer the question: "Are they visiting the same place?" After they finish reading, check the answer together. Scanning: Let students read the text again carefully. This time, ask them to find answers to more detailed questions, such as "How does Helen feel about the trip at first? How about Peter?" "What kind of weather did they meet?" and write down the key sentences related to their feelings and the weather. Language Points Explanation: Write some important sentences on the blackboard, such as "The clouds look amazing. It feels like a magical place." "Although the weather is bad, many people here are still in high spirits." Explain the new vocabulary and sentence patterns. For example, for "in high spirits", explain that it means being very happy and excited. Use some simple examples to help students understand, like "The students are in high spirits on the sports day." For "Although..., ...", explain that it is used to show a contrast, like "Although it is raining, he still goes to school on time." Group Discussion: Divide students into groups of four. Let them discuss the reasons why Helen and Peter have different feelings about the same trip. Each group selects a representative to share their discussion results with the whole class. 4 Post - reading (10 minutes) Role - play: Ask students to role - play Helen and Peter's conversation during the trip. They can use the information from the text and add some of their own ideas. Invite several groups to perform in front of the class. After the performance, other students can give comments. Writing: Let students write a short passage about their own imaginary trip to a mountain. They need to describe the weather, their feelings, and what they did during the trip. Use the learned vocabulary and sentence patterns. Walk around the classroom to offer help if necessary. After they finish writing, ask some students to read their passages aloud. 5 Listening and Speaking (10 minutes) Listening (1c): Play the recording of 1c. Let students listen carefully and circle the correct answer. Play the recording twice if necessary. After that, check the answers together. Speaking (1d): Divide students into pairs. Let them make a conversation about the local weather and what people are doing according to the model in 1d. Encourage them to use as much of the learned vocabulary as possible. Walk around the classroom to listen to their conversations and correct their mistakes if any. Then invite several pairs to show their conversations to the class. 6 Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary: Summarize the key vocabulary, sentence patterns, and the main idea of the text with the students. Review the importance of having a positive attitude towards challenges during trips or other activities. Homework: Ask students to write a more detailed travel diary about a real or imaginary trip, including the weather, activities, and their feelings. They should use at least five new words and three new sentence patterns learned in this class. Let students search for more information about famous mountains in the world and prepare to share it in the next class. 教学反思 Positive Aspects: The use of pictures in the lead - in stage successfully attracted students' attention and activated their prior knowledge, making it easier for them to get into the topic. Group discussions and role - plays provided students with more opportunities to communicate in English. Most students actively participated, which improved their speaking and cooperation skills. The step - by - step reading activities, from skimming to scanning and then language points explanation, helped students gradually understand the text and master the key knowledge. Areas for Improvement: Some students still had difficulty in using the complex sentence patterns accurately in their speaking and writing. More practice exercises should be designed in the future classes to strengthen their understanding and application. During the group discussion, a few students were a bit passive. In the future, more incentives can be given to encourage all students to actively participate in group activities. In the listening part, some students had trouble catching the key information quickly. More listening practice with different speeds and topics related to daily life should be arranged to improve their listening skills. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
