Unit 2 No Rules, No Order-Section A 1a-1e
This unit focuses on the theme of "rules". Section A 1a - 1e mainly introduces students to various school rules. It presents different rules through pictures in 1a, such as "Don't be late for school", "Don't run in the hallways". Then, the listening materials in 1b - 1d provide more rules and relevant information. The dialogue in 1d is about a teacher, Ms. Brown, talking about school rules with students. The activities are designed to help students learn to express and understand rules, laying a foundation for further discussion about rules in different scenarios in the following lessons.

教学过程
1 Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual. Then, show some pictures of a messy classroom (with students running around, things on the floor, etc.) and a well - organized classroom (students sitting quietly, everything in order) on the PPT.
Ask the students: "Look at these two pictures. Which classroom do you like better? Why?" Encourage students to express their opinions. Most students may say they like the well - organized classroom because it looks comfortable and good for studying. Then lead in the topic of rules: "To keep our classroom and school in good order, we need rules. Today, let's talk about school rules."
2 Presentation (10 minutes)
Vocabulary Teaching:
Show the pictures in 1a on the PPT one by one. For each picture, ask students what they see. For example, when showing the picture of a student running in the hallway, ask "What is the student doing?" Students may answer "Running." Then write the phrase "run in the hallways" on the blackboard. Teach students to read the phrase correctly.
Do the same for other phrases in 1a, such as "be late for school", "eat in class", "litter", "be polite", "respect others". After teaching all the phrases, let students read them together several times to make sure they can pronounce them correctly.
Explain the meaning of new words like "rule", "order", "follow", "polite", "respect" in simple English or by giving examples. For example, for "rule", say "A rule tells us what we can do and what we can't do. Like the rule 'Don't run in the hallways'." For "respect", say "We should respect our teachers. We say 'Good morning' to them and listen carefully in class."
Sentence Pattern Teaching:
Point to the picture of a student being late for school and say "Don't be late for school. This is a rule." Write the sentence "Don't be late for school." on the blackboard. Explain that this is a negative imperative sentence, which is used to tell people not to do something. The structure is "Don't + verb 原形".
Then, show the picture of students wearing school uniforms and say "You must wear the school uniform. This is also a rule." Write the sentence "You must wear the school uniform." on the blackboard. Explain that "must" is a modal verb here, which means it is necessary or very important to do something.
Let students make some sentences like these according to the pictures in 1a. Invite some students to share their sentences with the class.
3 Listening (10 minutes)
1b - First Listening:
Tell students: "Now, we are going to listen to a recording. The speaker will talk about some school rules. Listen carefully and tick the rules you hear in 1a."
Play the recording for the first time. Students listen and tick the rules. After that, check the answers with the whole class.
1c - Second Listening:
Say to the students: "Listen again. This time, you need to complete the sentences according to what you hear."
Play the recording for the second time. Students listen and fill in the blanks in 1c. After the listening, ask several students to read out their completed sentences. Check the answers together.
1d - Third Listening:
Say: "Now, we will listen to another part of the recording. Listen carefully and try to find out who the speaker is."
Play the recording of 1d. After listening, ask students to guess who the speaker is. Most students may be able to guess it's a teacher. Then play the recording again if necessary, and let students listen for more details, such as what rules the teacher emphasizes.
4 Pair Work (10 minutes)
Divide students into pairs. Ask them to talk about the rules in 1c. One student can start with a rule, for example, "We must wear the school uniform." Then the other student can respond, like "Yes, and we can't wear other clothes to school instead."
Walk around the classroom and listen to their conversations. Offer help and guidance when necessary. After a few minutes, invite some pairs to come to the front of the class and act out their conversations. Praise the pairs for their good performance.
5 Summary and Homework (10 minutes)
Summary:
Review the key words, phrases and sentence patterns about school rules with the students. Write them on the blackboard again and ask students to read them together.
Summarize the usage of negative imperatives and modal verbs "can" and "must" in expressing rules.
Emphasize the importance of following school rules.
Homework:
Ask students to write down at least five school rules they know using the sentence patterns they learned today.
Let students talk about school rules with their parents at home and share what they learned in class.
教学反思
In this class, through various activities such as warming - up, presentation, listening, pair work, students have actively participated in learning about school rules. The use of pictures and real - life - related examples in the teaching process helps students better understand the vocabulary and sentence patterns. However, during the pair work, some students still had difficulties in using the learned language freely. Maybe more guided practice is needed in the future. Also, when teaching the differences between "can" and "must", some students seemed a little confused. In the next class, more examples and exercises can be provided to strengthen this part. Overall, students showed great interest in the topic, and the teaching objectives were basically achieved, but there is still room for improvement in teaching methods and student guidance.
