Unit 5 Fun Clubs-Section B 2a-2b This section of Unit 5 in the Grade 7 English textbook of the People's Education Press (2024) focuses on "Fun Clubs". The 2a - 2b part mainly contains a reading passage about different school clubs and a writing task. In 2a, students will read an email from a student applying to join a club, learning about the content and structure of an application email. The writing task in 2b requires students to choose a club from 1b and write an email to the organizer, stating the reasons for joining. This section aims to further develop students' language skills in reading and writing, as well as enhance their understanding of school clubs and the ability to express their personal interests and intentions. 教学目标 Students will be able to master key words and phrases related to clubs, such as "cooking club", "nature club", "book club", "organizer", "join", "interested in", etc. Students will understand the common sentence patterns used in club application emails, like "I'm really interested in your club. I enjoy... because... I'd love to... I hope I can join your club." 教学重难点 A. Key Points Key words, phrases, and sentence patterns related to club applications. The structure and main content of a club application email, including self - introduction, stating interests and reasons for joining, and expressing expectations. B. Guiding students to accurately and vividly express their personal interests and unique reasons for joining a club in English. A. Warming - up (5 minutes) Greet the students as usual. Show some pictures of different school clubs on the PPT, such as a cooking club with students cooking delicious food, a nature club with students observing plants in the park, and a book club with students reading quietly. Ask students: "What clubs can you see in these pictures? Have you ever joined any clubs? What can you do in those clubs?" Encourage students to share their experiences briefly. This activity can arouse students' interest in the topic of clubs and review some related vocabulary they learned before. B. Pre - reading (8 minutes) Present the club advertisements in 1b on the screen again. Let students read the information about the three clubs quickly and recall the key points, such as what they can learn in each club, when and where the club activities are held, and how to contact the organizer. Then, set a prediction task. Tell students: "Now, we are going to read an email from a student who wants to join one of these clubs. Guess which club he might choose and why. Discuss with your partners for 2 minutes and then share your ideas." This can activate students' prior knowledge and make them more eager to read the following email. C. While - reading (15 minutes) Let students read the email in 2a carefully by themselves for the first time. Ask them to answer a general question: "Which club does the writer want to join?" After they finish reading, check the answer together. For the second reading, ask students to read the email again more carefully and complete the following tasks: Underline the sentences that introduce the writer himself/herself. Circle the sentences that show the writer's interests and reasons for joining the club. Draw a line under the sentences that express the writer's expectations. After students finish the tasks, organize a group discussion. Divide students into groups of 4 - 5. Each group member shares their underlined, circled, and drawn - line sentences. Then, together, summarize the structure of the club application email. The teacher walks around the classroom, listening to students' discussions and providing necessary guidance. Invite some groups to report their summary of the email structure to the whole class. The teacher writes the main points on the blackboard: Self - introduction (name, age, etc.) Expressing interest in the club Stating reasons for joining (based on personal interests and what can be gained from the club) Expressing expectations D. Post - reading (10 minutes) Review the key words, phrases, and sentence patterns in the email with students. Write some important ones on the blackboard, such as "be interested in", "enjoy doing sth.", "I hope I can...", and explain their usage and pronunciation again. Provide some additional examples of club application emails on the PPT. Let students read these examples quickly and find out the similarities and differences in structure and expressions compared with the email in 2a. Then, have a brief class discussion about how to make an application email more attractive and unique. E. Writing (7 minutes) Guide students to start the writing task in 2b. First, let them think about their own interests and which club from 1b they would like to join. Give them 1 minute to make a simple plan in their minds. Then, ask students to start writing their own club application emails. Remind them to follow the structure they summarized from the reading part and use the key words, phrases, and sentence patterns they have learned. The teacher moves around the classroom, offering help and guidance to students who have difficulties, such as spelling mistakes, grammar errors, or problems with organizing ideas. F. Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary: Summarize the key points of this class with students, including the new words and phrases about clubs, the structure of a club application email, and the writing process. Emphasize the importance of expressing personal interests clearly and logically in English writing. Homework: Ask students to finish their club application emails neatly and carefully at home. They can also decorate their emails with some simple drawings related to the club they choose. Let students read their emails to their parents at home and listen to their parents' suggestions. The next class, they will share their emails in groups again and make some improvements based on their classmates' and teachers' comments. 教学反思 After teaching this class, I have the following reflections: In the warming - up part, students showed great interest in sharing their club experiences, which effectively activated their prior knowledge. However, in the future, I can add more interactive elements, such as a quick group competition to name as many clubs as possible, to make the atmosphere more lively. During the reading process, most students were able to understand the main idea and structure of the email. But some students still had difficulties in accurately identifying the key sentences, especially those who had a relatively weak foundation in English. In the future, I need to provide more detailed guidance and practice for these students, such as using color - coding to help them better distinguish different parts of the text. In the writing part, some students had problems with vocabulary and grammar. Although I provided on - the - spot guidance, it would be better if I could arrange a short grammar review session before writing to strengthen students' confidence. Also, in the next class, when students share their emails, I should encourage more in - depth peer - to - peer evaluation to improve their writing skills. Overall, the teaching objectives were basically achieved. Students had a better understanding of club application emails and were able to write their own emails to a certain extent. But there is still room for improvement in terms of teaching methods and student guidance to better meet the needs of different students and enhance their English learning ability. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
