8A Unit 4 Hands - on Fun Reading 2 (教学设计) I. Teaching Objectives Knowledge Objectives Students can master new words (e.g., handyman, power cut, crazy about), phrases (e.g., put up, fill...with...) and sentence patterns in the passage. Students can use these language points correctly in context. Ability Objectives Improve students’ ability to understand and apply vocabulary and grammar knowledge. Enhance students’ reading comprehension ability through knowledge application. Emotional Objectives Let students feel the practicality of English knowledge. Cultivate students’ carefulness in language learning. II. Teaching Key and Difficult Points Key Points Master the meanings and usages of new words, phrases and sentence patterns. Use the language points to complete related exercises correctly. Difficult Points Distinguish and correctly use similar phrases (e.g., put up, put on). Flexibly apply language points in new contexts. III. Teaching Procedures 1. Lead - in (3 minutes) Review the main content of the passage briefly: “We learned Andrew’s DIY story yesterday. Today we’ll explore the useful words and phrases in it. Let’s first recall: What did Andrew do in his DIY?” Invite 1 - 2 students to retell simply, leading to knowledge points. 2. Knowledge Points Presentation 1) New Words (6 minutes) Present new words with examples from the text: handyman: “Andrew is not a born handyman. A handyman is someone good at repairing and making things.” power cut: “When he made a mistake, there was a power cut. Power cut means the electricity stops suddenly.” crazy about: “My cousin Andrew is crazy about DIY. It means he likes DIY very much.” Write the words, meanings and example sentences on the blackboard, and let students read and repeat. 2) Phrases (8 minutes) put up: “He wanted to put up a picture on the wall. Put up here means fix or hang something on the wall. Compare: put on (clothes), put off (delay).” fill...with...: “He hit a pipe and filled the room with water. Structure: fill + place + with + substance.” Give another example: “She filled the bottle with juice.” Let students find these phrases in the text, then explain and practice pronunciation. 3) Sentence Patterns (5 minutes) “My cousin Andrew is crazy about DIY.” (Be crazy about... 对…… 痴迷) “He bought many books about DIY and took an online DIY course as well.” (as well 也,用于句末) Present the sentence patterns, explain structures, and let students make simple sentences: e.g., “I’m crazy about reading. I finished my homework and cleaned my room as well.” 3. Practice 1) Text - based Practice (7 minutes) Let students go back to the text, find sentences with the above knowledge points, and analyze them: Find the sentence with put up and explain its meaning in the context. Point out the sentence with be crazy about and say what Andrew is crazy about. This helps students connect knowledge points with text understanding. 2) Exercise Practice (8 minutes) Do the exercises in the textbook related to knowledge points (e.g., the sentence - filling exercise with words like hit, instead, catch one's eye etc.): Let students complete independently first. Then check answers together, and explain the reasons, especially the usage of each word in context. 3) Creative Practice (5 minutes) Give new contexts and let students use knowledge points to make sentences or short dialogues: E.g., Use put up to describe decorating a classroom: “We put up some pictures on the classroom walls to make it beautiful.” Use be crazy about to talk about hobbies: “My friend is crazy about playing basketball. He plays it every day.” Invite students to share their creations, and give positive feedback and corrections. 4. Summary (3 minutes) Review the new words (handyman, power cut, crazy about), phrases (put up, fill...with...) and sentence patterns (be crazy about..., as well). Emphasize the key usages and differences (e.g., put up vs. put on). 5. Homework (3 minutes) Complete the remaining related exercises in the workbook. Write a short paragraph (at least 5 sentences) about your hobby, using at least 3 knowledge points learned today (e.g., be crazy about, put up, as well). IV.
