Teaching important points The correct usage of modal verbs "can" "have to" "must" "can't" "mustn't" in different situation Teaching difficult point How to write rules by using these modal verbs. Teaching methods Task - based teaching method, situational teaching method Teaching Aids PPT, blackboard Teaching procedures Step1 Warming - up 1. Greet students and have a free talk. Ask students about their weekends and if they went to any public places. Lead to the topic of rules by asking if they noticed any rules in those places. 2. Show some pictures of public places, such as libraries, schools and parks. Step2 Presentation 1. Present the Grammar Focus sentences on the PPT. Read the sentences aloud with students. Ask students to circle the words. 2. Explain the usage of the modal verbs "can" "have to" "must" "can't" and "mustn't." Step3 Practice 1. 3a: Read the sentences. Circle the word that introduces a reason. 2. 3b: Complete the sentences using can/ have to/ must or can't/ mustn't. 3. Group work: Make rules Divide students into groups of 4. Each group is given a picture of public places. Encourage them to think of as many rules as possible. Step4 Production 1. Have each group present their rules. One student from each group reads out the rules they have written. 2. Discussion: which rules do you think are the most important? Why? Start a discussion and encourage them.
