Step 1  Revision

Let the students retell the story of the Giant （I） according to the pictures and key words.

once upon a time, garden, grass, trees, children, happy

one day, a giant, appeared, in a loud voice, frightened, ran away, dared not come back

The next day, built, put a notice, no longer

when, spring, flowers, birds,the giant’s garden, winter, was covered with, felt sad

one morning,was lying awake, heard, thought, perhaps

Step 2  Presentation 

 1.Ask the students to read the new words in groups and try to remember the meanings of the words.

softly  adv. 轻轻地

scene  n. 场景；景色；风景

crawl  v. 爬行；匍匐行进

selfish  adj.自私的

knock  v. 敲；敲打；碰撞

spread  v. 张开；扩展

2. Think about it.

Ask the students to think about the following questions.

(1) What did the giant see when he jumped out of his bed?

(2) What happened to the garden in the end?
