Being good at studying is a skill that anyone can learn. There are some ways that will work and make a difference to your study.
Create a study space. It’s good for you if you have a desk for studying. Make sure your space has good light and take away anything that might break your attention. Place the things you need on the desk, like pens, notebooks and dictionaries. So you can use them whenever you want. What’s more, ask the people around you not to influence you while you’re learning.
Take a 10 to 15-minute break every hour when you study. You want to make full use of your time, so you might think having a break is a bad idea. However, spending long time on your study can make you feel exhausted. You’ll be full of energy after a rest. Use your breaks for something that cheers you up, like getting a snack or going for a short walk. But remember that don’t turn on the TV or play computer games.
Make a link between what you learn and your real life. Sometimes you might think what you’re learning in class has nothing to do with your real life, but that’s usually not true. You can find links between them. And those can help you work out the problems in your real life. For example, when your father wants to paint the walls, maybe you can use math to calculate (计算) the area of them.
32.Which of the following might show you have a good study space?
A.You don’t have a desk for studying. B.You study in a quiet room with good light.
C.There are many snacks and toys on your desk. D.Many people are talking in your room.
33.What does the underlined word “exhausted” in the third paragraph mean?
A.Bored. B.Relaxed. C.Tired. D.Excited.
34.Which of the following is talking about the link between what you learn and your life?
A.You should create a study space.
B.You should take a 10 to 15-minute break every hour when you study.
C.You should get a snack or go for a short walk.
D.You can use the knowledge of geography to know the change of weather.
35.What could be the best title for the text?
A.The Meaning of Studying B.The Skills of Studying
C.The Importance of Studying D.The Purpose of Studying
D
As we know, eating vegetables is good for us. Why do some people like them but others don’t? A new study has found that other people’s likes and dislikes could be a reason. According to the research, people who eat vegetables and show a clear dislike for them can influence others.
People may make facial expressions (面部表情) when eating. How does it affect a person watching them? A team of scientists in the UK did a study. They asked more than 200 young women to watch videos of other adults eating broccoli (西兰花). The people in the videos had different expressions while eating. They would smile, seem worried (mother happy but sad), or look disgusted.
The study found that when people in the videos look disgusted while eating broccoli, people watching them began to like broccoli less. The opposite was not true, however. When someone had a smile while eating broccoli, people watching them did not like broccoli more.
By watching others, humans learn which behaviors will be good for them. Scientists believe that people might avoid food that looks terrible. In this way, people can protect themselves from eating something bad or dangerous.
The research focused only on adults, but the team believe that the results could also work for children. This means, if children see their parents not enjoying certain foods, including vegetables, they might not want to eat them either.
How does the behavior of adults influence children’s choices of food? The team said they hope to understand more about it. This could help find ways to encourage children to eat more healthy foods.
36.How does the writer lead in the topic in Paragraph 1?
A.By asking a question. B.By listing numbers.
C.By giving an example. D.By making a guess.
37.What does the underlined word “disgusted” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.激动的 B.惊讶的 C.厌恶的 D.愉快的
38.What’s the result of the study?
A.People may prefer the food others like. B.Children dislike eating certain vegetables.
C.Young women are easily affected by others. D.People may not choose the food others dislike.
39.The team may do further study on _______
A.the safety of children’s food B.the wish to understand children
C.the influences of parents’ behavior D.the ways to produce healthy foods
40.In which part of a magazine can you read the text?
A.Science and art. B.Sports and arts.
C.Sports and health. D.Science and health.

44

Life is hard for 16-year-old Chen Xingrong. However, the young boy has managed to become a great swimmer, thanks to his hard training and the love and support from his family.
Born in Hainan, Chen could not say a word until the age of two. Soon he was found to have autism (自闭症). His parents were very worried. “We had never expected that such a thing would happen to us,” said Chen’s father.
In 2021, the father learned that swimming was helpful to people with autism. So he began to learn to swim by watching videos and reading books. Then he spent three months teaching his son, but the efforts all seemed to go in vain (徒劳). He didn’t give up, though.
To his surprise, after another three months, Chen had developed the ability to control his breath under water. His father was so excited that he began to work harder to train Chen.
In October, 2021, Chen went to Xi’an to take part in the 11th National Paralympic Games and the 8th Special Olympics. The boy won five medals (奖牌), including a gold. “It was really exciting,” his father said. “My son looked very happy at that time!”
Besides swimming, learning basic life skills is also an important part of life for a teenager with autism. “I hope that my son can live well on his own when we grow old,” said Chen’s father.
Thanks to his father’s help, Chen has learned to buy things in the market. He also does voluntary work at supermarkets and restaurants. “He is part of the community, and my wife and I hope he will live a wonderful life in the future,” said Chen’s father.

How to be a better teenager
Every student wants to be a better teenager. But what can we do to be better? Here are my suggestions.
At school, we should listen to our teachers carefully in class and finish our homework on time. Besides, we are not allowed to get our ears pierced or bring mobile phones to school.
At home, we are supposed to help our parents with housework. Moreover, we are not supposed to talk back to our parents. It’s impolite. We are expected to communicate with them more often. Through communication, we can understand each other better.
In public places, we should offer our seats to the old. We can’t throw rubbish everywhere. What’s more, we’d better not listen to music that’s loud.
By following these suggestions, we can not only improve ourselves but also make the world a better place!
