Unit 6 Integration 教学设计 I. Teaching Objectives Understand information about Chinese landscapes (Danxia landform, Yadan landform, Yunnan Province landscapes, Huangshan) through reading and listening, extract key details to answer questions and complete notes. Improve speaking skills by discussing interesting landscapes in pairs, using a model conversation. Enhance writing skills by creating an article about a Chinese landscape, using a model article and useful expressions to describe location, special features, and activities. II. Language Knowledge 1. Key words & phrases landscapes of China, Danxia landform, Yadan landform, Stone Forest, Xishuangbanna Rainforest, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Lugu Lake, Huangshan, natural wonder, sandstone, wind and time, cable car, sunrise, sunset 2. Key sentences Daniel is reading an article about interesting landscapes in China. Read part of the article and answer the questions below. Danxia landform: In Zhangye, Gansu Province, you can see beautiful hills with the colours of the rainbow. The name of this landscape is the Danxia landform. It is a natural wonder and a treat for your eyes. Yadan landform: The Yadan landform in North - west China is very unusual. This landform is made of sandstone in strange shapes. It takes millions of years for these shapes to form. It is a great example of the power of wind and time. What does the Danxia landform in Zhangye look like? What makes the Yadan landform? Daniel is listening to a radio ad about visiting Yunnan Province. Listen to the ad and complete Daniel's notes. Daniel and Millie are talking about interesting landscapes they want to see. Work in pairs and talk about the topic. Use the conversation below as a model. Daniel: Where would you like to visit this year, Millie? Millie: I want to go to Red Beach in Liaoning Province. It looks like a sea of red plants. Daniel: How amazing! Millie: What about you? Daniel: I'm very interested in Huangshan. My uncle went there last month. He saw a fantastic sea of clouds! Millie: Wow, what a lucky man! You can only see that amazing view on about 50 days of a year. Mr Wu asked each student to write an article about a beautiful or an interesting landscape in China. Daniel is making a table about a landscape. Read it and complete the table with the information about the landscape you choose. Read Daniel's article about an interesting landscape. Write an article about a beautiful or an interesting landscape in China based on the information in Part D1. Use Daniel's article as a model. One thing you can do there is ... People like to see/go to ... 3. Key and challenging points Comprehend information about Chinese landscapes, extract details from reading and listening. Discuss Chinese landscapes in pairs, using correct descriptive vocabulary and conversation patterns. Write an article about a Chinese landscape, using a model and useful expressions to organize ideas about location, special features, and activities. III. Teaching Procedures Learning activities: Step 1 Reading & Answering (Activity A) Read about Chinese landscapes T: Daniel is reading about Danxia and Yadan landforms. Read and answer: “What does the Danxia landform in Zhangye look like?” (Beautiful hills with rainbow colours.) “What makes the Yadan landform?” (Sandstone shaped by wind and time over millions of years.) Then discuss. Step 2 Listening & Completing (Activity B) Listen about Yunnan landscapes T: Daniel is listening to a Yunnan radio ad. Listen and complete notes about Stone Forest, Xishuangbanna Rainforest, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Lugu Lake. Play the audio. Ask Ss to fill in blanks (photos, elephants, Snow, plants, mountains, holiday). Then check answers. Step 3 Pair Work: Discussing Landscapes (Activity C) Talk about interesting landscapes T: Daniel and Millie are talking about landscapes. Work in pairs using the model conversation. Divide Ss into pairs. Ask them to practice the conversation, then discuss landscapes (e.g., “Where would you like to visit? I want to go to Jiuzhaigou. It has beautiful lakes. How amazing! What about you? I'm interested in Zhangjiajie. It has unique rock formations.”). Walk around to help with vocabulary. Then invite pairs to share. Step 4 Reading Model Article (Activity D2) Read Daniel's article about Huangshan T: Read Daniel's article. Notice the structure: Catchy title, general info, special features, what you can do. Ask Ss to read, identify structure and useful expressions (e.g., “... is in the south of ...”, “It is famous for ...”, “People can ...”). Step 5 Completing Table & Writing Article (Activity D1, D3) Complete table and write landscape article T: Think of a Chinese landscape. Complete the table (what it is, where it is, famous for, what you can do). Then write an article using Daniel's model and useful expressions. Guide Ss to fill the table (e.g., Jiuzhaigou: in Sichuan, famous for lakes and waterfalls, can hike and take photos). Then write the article. Walk around to help. Invite Ss to share articles. IV. Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness Assess Ss' comprehension via answers in A and B. Evaluate Ss' speaking skills via Activity C conversations. Assess Ss' writing skills via Activity D3 articles, checking structure and expression use. This lesson integrates reading, listening, speaking, and writing about Chinese landscapes. V. Design Purpose Reading and listening tasks build knowledge about Chinese landscapes. Pair work practices discussing landscapes. Table and article writing integrate learned vocabulary into landscape descriptions. VI. Blackboard Design “Integration” Landscapes of China Landscape key points: Danxia: rainbow - coloured hills. Yadan: sandstone shapes by wind/time. Huangshan: pine trees, rocks, sea of clouds. Article structure: Catchy title. General info. Special features. What you can do. Share your article with family and ask for their opinions on your Chinese landscape description. VIII. Teaching Reflection Ss engaged in all activities. Reading and listening were understood well.
