It was about ten years ago, on a cold winter day. I was walking over to visit my dad when it began raining heavily. Although his house was only a short walk from mine, I was wet all over and it chilled (使……冰冷) my bones. I knocked on his door and walked in. Warm steam (蒸汽) came from the kitchen. It touched my nose, and suddenly, I felt like I was 8 years old again. Dad was making Nana’s special spaghetti sauce (意大利面酱).
When I was growing up, Nana would make us a big Italian meal every Sunday. She would slowly cook her spaghetti sauce for hours. Then she would drop in potatoes, chicken, meatballs, sausage and sometimes even steak. When it was ready, we would mix it in the spaghetti, fix the plates and put cheese on it. It always made our bellies (肚子) full, our hearts happy and the house smell delicious.
I sat down while Dad made me a plate. It felt so good having a meal like we used to (过去常常) when I was a boy. We talked about those old times, and my warmhearted aunt laughed over the memories, both good and bad. I didn’t feel cold any more.
Dad and Nana have been gone for years now. I still miss them. Although my daughter and I both know how to make Nana’s special sauce, we don’t cook it as often as we could. Should you eat to live or live to eat? This is a question asked by a French playwright Moliere in his work The Miser. Eating is necessary, and our bodies need energy, and dining with friends or loved ones is a wonderful experience. However, some of us often find oneself reserving a table for one in a restaurant. But is dining alone really that bad? Maybe not.
We all have foods we like and dislike. Maybe it’s a piece of smelly cheese or fish. We sometimes hold back on things that may cause others to cover the noses. When dining alone, we can eat whatever we like, with the added good that we might eat more healthily. Often, if you want a salad and your partner wants some less healthy food, you end up ordering the same. And if you don’t get the same, you might end up with “food envy (忌妒)” as someone enjoys a pizza while you’re left holding the vegetables.
Have you ever spent too long discussing with people which restaurant to eat in or when to meet? If dining alone, you can make the choice depending on your own desires and take your food in at exactly the time you’re hungry! And why does it have to be a restaurant? You could eat in a park, garden or even your bed—the point is, the choice is yours! That lonely time also means it’s a time to turn off. According to the psychologist Sherrie Bourg Carter, staying alone can relax your brain and help you concentrate more.

B.Debating where to eat is a waste of time.

1.Why is Moliere referred to in Paragraph One?
A.To lead in the main topic. B.To attract the readers' interest.

2.Your partner wants some less healthy food. You are likely to ______.
A.eat more healthily B.cover your nose with hands
C.take the same order D.end up with unhappiness
3.What is the main idea of Paragraph Three?
A.Dining alone can save time and relax ourselves.
B.Debating where to eat is a waste of time.
C.Staying alone can improve our concentration.
D.Making your own choice is important.
4.How does the author possibly feel about eating alone?
A.Unwise. B.Popular. C.Boring. D.Acceptable.
