I. Teaching Objectives
Understand Kexin's blog about the school sports day, master related vocabulary, and extract key information.
Develop reading skills like predicting from title and pictures, and enhance critical thinking abilities through analyzing the blog and recalling, understanding, and applying information about the sports day.
Be able to talk about school sports events, results, and personal preferences for sports events, using correct vocabulary and sentence structures.
II. Language Knowledge

My best friend Mike is very good at long - distance running. He came in first and finally won the race.
In the long jump, my other friend, Rita, did not get a prize, but she tried her best.

Learning activities:
Step 1 Lead - in
Show the title “A sports day” and the pictures from the blog.
T: Look at the title and pictures. What do you think the blog post is about? Invite Ss to predict. Then say: Today, we will read Kexin's blog about her school sports day.
Step 2 Reading & Comprehension
Work on Activity B1
T: Look at the title and pictures of the blog post. Choose the best answers. Use the skill of predicting from title and pictures.
Ask Ss to predict the main idea, then read the blog to choose the correct answers. Then check the answers.
Work on Activity B2
T: Answer the questions about Kexin's sports day.
Ask Ss to read the blog carefully and answer the questions (when the sports day was, what the school was like, who performed best, why Ms Lin and students sang, if students enjoyed themselves). Then check the answers.
Work on Activity B3
T: Find sentences Kexin wrote to describe her unforgettable sports day and fill in the table.
Ask Ss to find descriptive sentences in the blog and fill in the table with lines, description, and key words. Then check the answers.
Step 3 Word work
Work on Activity B4
T: Write the words from the text. Use the meanings and the first letters to help you.
Ask Ss to fill in the words (whole, race, performance, cheer, prize, unforgettable) based on meanings and first letters. Then check the answers.

T: Complete the sentences with the correct forms of the words in B4.
Ask Ss to fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the words from B4 to complete the sentences. Then check the answers.

T: Complete the passage about popular sports with the words in the box.
Ask Ss to fill in the blanks with the words (are full of, here and there, join in, try your best) to complete the passage about popular sports. Then check the answers.
Step 4 Critical thinking
Work on Critical thinking tasks
Recall: T: List the sports events Kexin and her classmates took part in and the results they got. Fill in the table.
Understand: T: Kexin and her classmates joined in different sports events. How many of them are team sports and how many are individual sports? Write T for team sports and I for individual sports.
Apply: T: Your school is going to hold a sports day. Talk about one of the sports events you would like to take part in and give your reasons.
Divide Ss into groups and let them discuss these tasks. Then invite some groups to share their ideas.
IV. Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness
Assess Ss' comprehension of Kexin's blog by observing their answers in Activities B1, B2, and B3.
Observe whether Ss can use correct word forms to complete sentences and passages in Activities B4, B5, and B6.
Evaluate Ss' critical thinking abilities and oral expression by observing their discussions and sharing in the critical thinking tasks.
This lesson helps Ss improve reading comprehension and word - using skills. It also enhances their critical thinking and ability to express personal opinions about school sports days.
V. Design Purpose
The lead - in activates Ss' prior knowledge about sports days and uses the predicting skill to engage them with the blog topic.
Reading and comprehension activities help Ss understand the blog content and practice reading skills. Word work activities reinforce vocabulary learning and usage.

VIII. Teaching Reflection
The reading and word work activities effectively helped Ss learn new vocabulary and understand the blog. Ss showed good engagement in critical thinking tasks. However, some Ss might need more guidance in expressing their opinions clearly about preferred sports events. In future lessons, more oral expression practice can be provided.
