The Amazon rainforest in South America, at seven million km², is the largest rainforest in the world. The forest is important for people all over the world because it produces a lot of oxygen, and also helps to cool the weather. But large areas of the rainforest are being cut down for wood—55% of the forest could be gone by 2030! The World Wildlife Federation(WWF) is helping to stop some areas of the rainforest from being cut down.
At 68,000 km², the Aral Sea was one of the largest lakes in the world before the 1960s. Then rivers were diverted(修改河道) and it has been getting smaller ever since. Dust storms happen again and again and the villages sit on the edge of a huge desert(沙漠) with large ships stranded(搁浅) in its sand. A dam(水坝) has been built to try to bring back higher water levels in the North with some success.

While watching the science lesson from theTiangong-1 on the morning of June 20, 2013, Wang Lutian, a 10-year-old disabled student at a special school in downtown Beijing, was drawing a colorful rocket with crayons in his classroom. “Moon...stars...a rocket to the sky,” Wang explained his work in a cheerful voice. At that time, he and more than 100 other disabled students were enjoying the lesson given by Wang Yaping, who talked about movements in micro-gravity(微重力)environments. “Zerogravity!” Qian Shaohong, another student at the school, shouted when he saw astronaut Nie Haisheng making a show of crossing his legs in mid-air. “Scientific knowledge has helped open a window for the children to know about the world,” said Zhang Yini, a teacher at the school.
The lesson also increased interest in space science among teenagers living on the “roof(屋脊)of the world”. “I was most interested in the presentation of the ‘water ball’ in a gravity-free environment. It’s really amazing,” said Rigzin Jigme Doje, a high school student in Lhasa, Tibet. During Chinese New Year, a 40-metre-long balloon loong (the Chinese pronunciation of dragon) was shown in Hong Kong. On January 24, the artwork was confirmed to have broken the Guinness World Record for being the world’s largest balloon loong.
The loong is the symbol of power, energy and liveliness in Chinese culture. The record-breaking loong is made up of 38,000 beautiful balloons. It shows a golden light and has a sense of power.
“According to Chinese legends (神话) the loong controls rain. Only good weather can produce good crops, so the Chinese have admired and respected the loong since ancient times,” the balloon artist Wilson Pang said. He added that many sayings about the loong had good meanings, which were different from those about Western Dragons.
Pang said that the artwork took him much time and the most difficult part was the eyes. He made more than 10 drafts for one eye alone before he was satisfied. The Guinness certification officer was greatly impressed, saying it was one of the most attractive balloon artworks ever.
The model of the loong caught many people’s attention. “Beautiful”, “amazing”, “fantastic” and “thanks for bringing us peace” were among many people’s messages Pang received on social media. To thank people for their support, Pang printed 5,000 postcards based on the loong and had a meeting with them at a mall.
“To send a warm, loving message to the people of Hong Kong is what I always want to do,” Pang said. “I hope to share what I have learned with young people. I have won many medals myself and I hope to support the next winners in the future.”
Growing up in Hong Kong, a place both old and modern, Pang often thinks about how to present the beauty of Eastern culture with Western balloon art. The balloon artist hopes that one day he can introduce balloon works that show Chinese culture to the world. “This is what I am doing now,” he said.
35. What can we learn from Paragraph 1 to Paragraph 3?
A. The loong is powerful and lazy in Chinese culture.
B. People respect the loong because it produces crops.

D. Ancient people believed good weather depended on the loong.

A. has perfect eyes in the beginning
B. has nothing to do with young people
C. is a way to send people a warm message
D. is easier to design than any other artwork
37. What will the writer probably talk about after the last paragraph?
A. The beauty of the Western balloon art and works.
B. Chinese culture that can be found in the balloon loong.
C. Pang’s growing-up stories before becoming a balloon artist.
D. Hong Kong, a great place with ancient and modern cultures.
38. Which is the best title for the passage?

Zhou Jiangtao passed away at only 17 years old. He got bone cancer when he was 13. Four days before the announcement of his death, he asked to donate his organs (器官). “I do know the pain of suffering from disease and the helplessness of having no cure (治愈方法) …I’ve seen so much sadness and regret and want to offer help.”
On the day he ‘‘left’’, two patients who had been waiting for cornea transplants (角膜移植) were told they would get donations. Zhou’s body was moved to Zhejieng University School of Medicine on the same day.
It has been 12 years since China started a national pilot (试点) programme for human organ donation. According to the China Organ Donation Administrative Center, about 300,000 people across China are waiting for life-sustaining (维持生命的) organ transplants, but only 20, 000 receive transplants each year.
In recent years, organ donation and transplantation have gotten more public support in China. As of April 2, more than 4. 62 million people had signed up (登记) for organ donation, said the center. As many as 75 people can benefit from a single donor (捐献者). There’s no age limit to donation, while people under 18 need a guardian’s consent (监护人同意).
In China, there are some deeply rooted traditions about the bodies of dead people. For example, many believe the body is a gift from one’s parents. So, they think dead bodies must be kept complete.
But many others have changed their beliefs. Donating organs is a way to help others and extend (延展) the meaning of one’s life. Increased willingness has been seen among young and
middle-aged people, noted People’s Daily. “Dedication (奉献) makes life more precious (宝贵的) than oneself,” Zhou once said.

The earth is 4.6 billion years old. We humans have lived on the earth for only 35000 years, but during this period, we have changed our planet a lot in many ways. Some things we have done are very good for the earth while others are bad.
By 2007, it was only 10% of its original size and had divided into three separate lakes. Dust storms happen again and again and the villages sit on the edge of a huge desert(沙漠) with large ships stranded(搁浅) in its sand. A dam(水坝) has been built to try to bring back higher water levels in the North with some success.
In China, about 3,600 km² of grassland near the Gobi turns into desert every year. There are often storms that blow dust all the way to Beijing. The storms are getting worse each year and have a deep influence on farmers.
The goal of the Green Wall Project, started in 1978, is to increase forests in northern China from 5% to 15% in order to stop the desert from growing. The project faces many challenges. However, people must never give up on it.
Saving the disappearing nature needs everyone’s effort. Although each one of us may only do a little, together we can make a big difference. What can you do to protect the environment?

D. Ancient people believed good weather depended on the loong.

A. has perfect eyes in the beginning
B. has nothing to do with young people

D. is easier to design than any other artwork
