(2c) Task: Students read the passage again, underline the main ideas, and write short answers to the questions:
First paragraph:
Who is Sarah? A girl who became a fan of American country music.
Where is she from? The US (she studied abroad in England but is from the US).
What does she like? American country music.
Second paragraph:
What is country music? A traditional kind of music from the southern states of America.
What is country music about? Many songs these days are about modern life in the US, but country music brings us back to the “good old days” when people were kind to each other and trusted one another. It reminds us that the best things in life are free — laughter, friends, family, and the beauty of nature and the countryside.
Third paragraph:
What is Sarah's dream? To go to Nashville one day.
Who is Garth Brooks? One of the most successful musicians in American history.
(2d) Task: Students use the notes from 2c to write a short summary of the passage (within 100 words). Example:
Sarah became a fan of American country music when she heard a song on the radio while studying abroad. Country music is traditional from the southern US, reminding people of good old days. Sarah dreams of going to Nashville, home to country music. Garth Brooks, a famous country singer, has sold over 120 million records.
(2e) Task: Students close their books and tell a partner what facts they remember about country music. Then they make a list of questions about other facts they want to know about country music. Example questions:

What are some other famous country music singers?
Are there different styles of country music?
Step 5 Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
