Last month, our magazine asked some students if dialects (方言) would die out. Here are some opinions.
Sun Run, 14, Zhejiang
I don’t think dialects will die out. Memes (表情包) about dialects are becoming more popular on social media. Videos that have to do with dialects can easily become popular online. In my city, some bus lines have their station broadcasts in Hangzhou dialect.
Zhang Keqi, 15, Fujian
I live in Xiamen and the people here speak Minnan dialect. However, I have found that fewer people speak this dialect around me. Most of those who can speak Minnan dialect are middle-aged. As for me, I can’t speak the dialect, nor can most of my classmates. We don’t learn it at school and our teachers speak Mandarin (普通话) all the time. As more people travel to Xiamen, more of us will talk with visitors in Mandarin.
Cheng Yifan, 14, Beijing
I believe that dialects will die out one day if we don’t do anything to save them. It is a fact that many languages around the world are dying. That’s because the last of the people who can speak these languages have passed away. I seldom use dialects because I know little of them. Most of the time, I just speak Mandarin. To save dialects, I think the government could start some free dialect courses.
Xin Jingrong, 14, Guangxi
Dialects are of great importance for the study of folk (民俗的) culture. I think it is important to save dialects, or we’ll lose the root(根源) of our culture. At home, I usually speak dialect with my families. But if we do nothing, I’m afraid that dialects will die out in the near future.

—The Analects of Confucius
Confucius is a master of thinking. He came up with many great ideas. But what’s the most well-known and influential (有影响力的) one? That may be the idea of the golden mean. Have you heard of it? Do you know its real meaning?
Zhongyong, the golden mean, is an interesting topic. In Confucianism (儒家思想), it is seen as an important virtue (品德).
Confucius speaks highly of it. However, it is easily misunderstood. People often think it means not working hard or pursuing (追求) perfection.

In February 2025, China introduced a nationwide policy to give high school students two full days off every weekend. This change aims to reduce the heavy study pressure that students have faced for years. Before the policy, many students in provinces like Shandong only had one day or even half a day to rest each week. Now, schools are required to cancel all weekend classes and exams, allowing students to relax or explore personal interests.
According to the new rules, teachers cannot assign extra homework during weekends, but schools must keep libraries and sports facilities open for students who wish to study or exercise voluntarily. In cities like Qingdao and Hangzhou, some schools have even started organizing weekend activities such as science clubs, art workshops, and community service programs.
Most students welcome the policy. Studies also show that students who get enough rest perform better in exams. For example, a high school in Zhejiang reported a 15% improvement in average test scores after implementing the policy.
However, some parents still worry. “Weekends used to be important for reviewing lessons. I’m afraid my child will fall behind,” said a parent in Changsha. Rural areas face bigger challenges. In villages where educational resources are limited, students often lack access to extracurricular (课外的) activities. To solve this, the government has created free online learning platforms and encouraged urban (城市的) schools to share resources with rural ones.
Education experts believe this policy marks a turning point in China’s education system. “It’s not just about giving students free time. It’s about teaching them to balance study and life,” said Professor Wang from Beijing Normal University. While challenges remain, many hope this policy will create a healthier environment for the next generation.

第三部分 书面表达(共两节,计25分)
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题,计5分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题
Since it came out in 1908, Anne of Green Gables has been a favorite book of teenagers all over the world. What it teaches us is simple: How to grow up to be a happy and useful person. How to be on the way to success.
Anne is an 11-year-old orphan (孤儿) who is adopted (收养) by Mathew and Marilla Cuthbert, a brother and sister. She comes to help them in a town called Avonlea in Canada. At first, Mathew and Marilla hope to adopt a boy, not a thin girl. Will she be of any use for them? It seems impossible. Anne is very talkative and easily distracted (分心的). That’s not what is needed on a farm.
And yet, we can see that Anne can be helpful. She works really hard, but she doesn’t lose her powerful sense of fun—this is why readers love the story. She doesn’t become “a good girl”, if “a good girl” means only knowing how to work and live unhappily. We see Anne’s love for life everywhere. She knows how to enjoy herself, whether it’s by eating ice cream or trying on a new dress.
Many stories about children are written to tell them how to act well. Usually it means doing one’s duty and not having any fun. But that’s not the kind of story the writer wants to tell. The book gives readers a helping hand instead of trying to scare them into being “good” girls and boys.

【答案】例文
My Cherished Gift
Everyone has his or her most cherished gift. I have received many gifts, among which I like the book given by my father best of all.
Last summer holiday, I was addicted to screens almost every day, causing a sharp decline in my eyesight. Then my father gave me a gift—a book named Oxford Bookworm Series. He was smiling and said, “A good book can change your feelings and make you happy at home.” I wondered whether my father was right. But I still began to read the book. After a short time I was interested in the book gradually. Thanks to my father’s book, I didn’t feel bored any longer and kept away from my phone, for I was devoted to what’s in the book.
I think a good book is a good friend, which can keep you company and broaden your horizons. So it is my special gift—a book named Oxford Bookworm Series that has changed me a lot.

11. What is the main purpose of the new weekend policy?
A. To increase homework time. B. To close school libraries.
C. To reduce study pressure. D. To make students study harder.
12 What must schools do under the new rules?
A. Assign extra homework. B. Cancel all sports activities.
C. Keep libraries open on weekends. D. Close classrooms on Fridays.
13. Why are some parents in rural areas worried?
A. Students dislike science clubs. B. They lack educational resources.
C. Teachers refuse to teach on weekends. D. Schools charge extra fees.
14. What does the word “implementing” mean in Paragraph 3?
A. Canceling. B. Discussing. C. Carrying out. D. Ignoring.
15. What is experts’ attitude toward the policy?
A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Uninterested. D. Angry.
