Purpose: Activate students’ memory of Unit 2 and arouse their interest in the assessment and further study.
2. Assessment (15 minutes)
Self - assessment Guidance
Explain each item in “What I can do” one by one. For example, for “I can describe different schools around the world”, ask students to think about how they can describe them (using adjectives, introducing school facilities, etc.).
Guide students to assess themselves and their partners objectively. Encourage them to provide evidence for their assessment, such as “I can compare the amount of things because I did well in the grammar exercises about ‘as... as’ and suffixes”.
Result and Action Plan
Have students fill in the “Result”, “I am good at...”, “I need to spend more time on...”, and “My action plan” sections. Walk around to offer help and advice.
Select some students to share their action plans, and give positive feedback and suggestions.
Purpose: Help students master self - assessment methods and clarify their learning status and improvement directions.
3. Further Study - Book Introduction (12 minutes)
Book Presentation
Introduce “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” briefly, including the main character (Greg), the setting (middle school), and the main plot (dealing with challenges). You can show some pictures or short video clips related to the book if possible.
Ask students if they know this book series or other books about school life. Write down the book names they mention on the blackboard.
Discussion
Organize students to discuss in pairs: “What do you think of Greg's school life? If you were Greg, how would you deal with the challenges?”. Then invite some pairs to share their ideas.
For the other books about school life mentioned, ask the students who know them to give a short introduction, such as “What is the main idea of the book? Why do you like it?”.
