Jumpers with Chinese characters coats covered in tiger stripes and shoes with traditional flower patterns—these days, it’s easy to find people wearing homegrown sportswear on Chinese streets.
China’s sportswear brands, like ANTA Sports, Li-Ning and XTEP, have reported big growth in recent years, said Xinhua. For example, on March 22, ANTA Sports said its total revenue(收入) in 2021 hit 49.3 billion yuan, a 38.9 percent year-on-year increase. XTEP’s total revenue doubled from 2017, up to 10 billion yuan for the first time in 2021.
The sharp growth in homegrown sportswear partly results from a trend called “guochao”, or “China chic”. It has driven need for local brands and products with traditional Chinese designs. Its main followers are Generation Zers, as they begin to turn from international brands to locally produced ones, noted CGTN.
“Now ANTA has good design abilities. They are as comfortable and good as other foreign brands that charge (要价) more money. So why not ANTA?” a 24-year-old graduate surnamed Liu from Beijing, told Global Times.
The Beijing Winter Olympics this year also pushed for the growing sportswear market. ANTA, for instance, was the official sportswear provider of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. It used its smart technology to support China’s 12 teams in events including short track speed-skating and curling.
At the Beijing 2022 Games, more local brands and products got global attention. For example, Peak had the second-most delegations(代表团) wearing its products at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Delegations from seven countries including Iceland, Ukraine, Belgium and Romania wore Peak, reported the Paper.

“Want to go to the pool tomorrow?” Riya asked Sheetal during break.
Riya and Sheetal did everything together. They were best friends. Most of the time.
Sometimes, though, when Sheetal was with other friends, she ignored Riya or treated her like a little kid.
Today was one of those times. “Sorry. I’m already going to the pool,” Sheetal said. “Tina and Vaidehi and I are going.” She smiled, but it wasn’t her nice smile. She walked away to join Tina and Vaidehi, and Riya was left standing alone.
After school, at dance class, Sheetal talked with the other dancers as they stretched (拉伸) in front of the mirror. Riya wanted to join them, but she held back a bit.
Then she noticed Zora, the new girl. Riya joined her and began stretching, too. Zora smiled, and Riya smiled back. Riya tried not to check the mirror to see if Sheetal had noticed. I hope she feels left out, Riya thought.
The next morning, when Riya boarded the bus, Sheetal was waiting in their usual seat. Sheetal quickly moved her backpack off the seat to make room for Riya. But Riya walked past her and slid into the empty seat next to Zora. How does it feel now? Riya thought.
On the bus ride, Riya discovered that Zora was not a quiet girl. She talked a lot-about her little brother, about the tree house her uncle had built, and even about swimming.
“I love swimming!” Riya said.
“Me, too,” Zora said. “We just joined the YMCA.
My dad said he’d take my sister and me tonight.”
“It’s awesome there,” Riya said.
“Maybe you can come with us tonight,” Zora said. “I’ll ask my dad.”
“That would be fun. I’ll ask my mom,” said Riya.
When they got off the bus, Sheetal was waiting on the sidewalk. “Did you still want to go swimming tonight?” Sheetal asked Riya.
Here’s my chance, Riya thought. “I’m already going together.” She smiled. Somehow she knew it wasn’t her nice smile.
Sheetal nodded and looked at her feet.
Riya’s face began to burn. Why didn’t she feel happy? It didn’t feel good at all. “Um,” she said instead, “maybe…”

A. laughed at B. paid no attention to
C. cared about D. took notice of

28. How many Chinese brands are mentioned in Paragragh 2?
A. 2 B. 3 C. 4 D. 5
29 Which is TRUE about ANTA?
A. Its revenue in 2021 increased to 49.3 billion yuan.
B. ANTA is more expensive because of its better design.
C. Its revenue doubled from 2017, up to 10 billion yuan in 2021.
D. ANTA was the only official sportswear provider of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
30. Which is the best title for this passage?
A. A new style of fashion B. Brands on the rise
C. The best part of Beijing Winter Olympics D. Sports fashion around the world

31 What does the underlined “ignored” mean in this story?
A. laughed at B. paid no attention to
C. cared about D. took notice of
32. How did Riya feel when she held back instead of joining her friend Sheetal at dance class?

C. Maybe we could go all together, Sheetal.
D. Maybe we could go with your sister, Zora.
